Spring was on its way and it was time or the lambs to get shorn. Maple was a clever little lamb and she did not want to get her woolly coat shorn.

When Maple saw the armer coming she hid behind a tombstone. She smiled to hersel as she watched the column o lambs slowly ma e their way to the shed to get shorn.

The next day Maple wo e up and loo ed or the herd, but she could not nd them anywhere. She climbed to to the top o the hill and saw the herd in a paddoc on the other side o the arm. Maple was sad, she was not sure i hiding was clever a ter all.

Seasons
changed and still the herd did not return.
Maple’s
coat got thic er and thic
er. 5
The herd still had not returned by autumn. Now Maple wasn’t just sad, she was downright solemn. Her coat was no longer ne, it was dusty, ull o twigs and needed a good comb.

The next day Maple wo e to the sound o a child humming a hymn. It was the armer’s son collecting plums rom the tree.

Maple ran up to the armer’s son and started nibbling on his thumbs. “Loo at you!” exclaimed the boy. “I better ta e you bac to the herd.”
