Forefront Bye, bye, black and grey; hello, color!

IN THE

his edition of Forefront is devoted to women’s fashion because, as sophisticated trendsetters know, there’s no better time than fall to dive into fun and fabulous clothing trends. It’s always been my favorite time of year – getting back into the groove of school, the cultural calendar or whatever else is on tap is exciting. Especially when accompanied by crisper weather. That’s when we’re glad to stow those summer togs and get into some really great cozy clothes. And what a season we have coming up! From top to bottom (makeup to shoes) and from inside out (undergarments to jackets), the word is COLOR!!! A good place to add color is through your jeans. Everyone – but everyone – I spoke with named colorful, and even coated denim as red-hot for fall. So if you do nothing else, snag yourself a pair of these in aubergine, teal, candy-apple-red or tangerine. Up the fashion ante and get a few more in floral and python prints. Handbags and shoes are showing up in stronger colors, too, often with an edgier vibe – think fringe, studs and patchwork. This doesn’t automatically mean ditching your clothes from years past, though. There’s no better way to update what you already own and love than through accessories. “People are accessorizing more than ever,” one boutique owner tells me. And they are using multiple necklaces, bracelets and scarves to do it. The look is bigger and bolder with a vintage or Etruscan feel. So don’t just combine thin gold chains with Nana’s pearls; instead, layer multiple strands of heavy chains with cut-glass beads and chunky semi-precious stones. Create a smoky eye with shadows in luscious plum or cobalt and apply eyeliner in a strong stroke to make them stand out. Ready, set, go! (Please turn to pages 4 and 5.)

Everyone’s excited about fall fashion this year: what’s not to like about vivid colors, fur trims, sumptuous leathers and peeps of lace?

A good comfy sweater will be important; not as oversized as in the past, but soft – more fitted and feminine. There’s a very edgy combat boot look in shoes, embellished with studs – perhaps contrasting with a Chanel-inspired jacket.
