First book cover design, Lautoka book Launch, 2008 Pacific Educational Journeys Pacific Education: Issues and Perspectives

P u b licat ion s When organising the design and layout of a publication the following areas are what shape the structure and flow and are taken in to consideration before I begin. Publication type | Budget | Size | Preferred Number of Pages | Target Audience | Content Personality | Imagery style | Colours | Typography

Education for Sustainable Development Book Covers | Book Layout Aspiration The three books fall under Educational Material, funded by Asia/Pacific Cultural Centre for UNESCO and is used internationally, The first 3 volumes were compiled, edited and ready for Cover design and Layout preferably linking all 3 books, their focus topic and individual content.

Challenges Creating concepts based on Educating for sustainable development that relates to each book and represents the pacific region as a whole. Also having a short amount of time to present concepts with the use of photographs as desired.

Solution I presented a series of photographs, images and designs from my personal collection involving themes relating to Education for Sustainable Development. I also chose to use my primary focus on the individual topics to represent pacific knowledge as a whole in each concept.

Dreadlocks Vol. 5 Cover Art Work | Cover Design Aspiration A journal devoted to creative works, literary and cultural debates in Oceania and beyond. The Pacific Writing Forum needed a strong book cover that would suit this journal.

Challenges Using the journal content as a guide to finding a primary focus to work with could prove difficult given the wide variety of creative works.

Solution I presented a series of photographs involving themes portrayed in the journal’s content. The piece broken dreams from the Raiwaqa series, 2008 was selected.

VASU Exhibition Catalogue Cover Art & Design | Layout Aspiration As contemporary art was a relatively new movement here in the Pacific especially for females VASU Pacific Women of Power was working on creating the first all female exhibition bringing together 46 artist from Fiji and across the Pacific region, they were in need of Marketing material. This included posters, banners. event cards, invitations and of course an Exhibition Catalogue.

Challenges The art work had to have a contemporary pacific look and represent the pacific region as a whole while keeping it simple. It also had to be bold with a sense of power portraying the title of the exhibition.

Solution The photograph used was choreographed to portray the element of power, also with the use of colours red, white and black. The Mat is culturally represented across the pacific and adding a contemporary look to the finish fit well with the look they were going for.

Latest Event Marketing Package Educating for Sustainable Lifestyles through the Arts Sokota - Art.Health.Wellnes, Art Exhibition, 2013

E v e nt M a rk e t in g

Being part of a creative team marketing an event can become quite chaotic with all the hype, budget issues and constant changes. Being prepared with the right questions and concept ideas not only saves time but allows for quality brainstorming. The following are some of the main areas I look into when designing marketing material for events. Event type | Themes | Budget | Desired marketing style | Available marketing platforms | Linkage to additional marketing materials | Target Audience | Event Personality | Suitable and flexible design for various marketing materials and Proper representation or consistency through: Colour | Font | Imagery | Design style | Layout

Sokota Art Exhibition, 2013 Catalogue Cover Art,Design & Layout | Banners | Event Cards Sokota: is an indigenous iTaukei concept meaning to embark on a voyage. Paper Boats: Over the preparation period Sokota secured a spot with Fiji Times sharing an article every Thursday in the weeks leading up the exhibition. These were individual stories from each participating artist including the organisers, also advertising and sharing more details on the upcoming event. With this in mind I then presented the concept using news paper boats tying in the overall exhibition concept with an image designed for all marketing material.

Ta’aroa Theater production, 2011 Photography | Progreamme Booklet Layout Photography Behind the scenes, choreography and character photography for layout content. Layout Aiming for international standards and merging themes of pacific culture, contemporary art and dance. I first looked into the latest in theater production on an international scale, I then pieced together a suitable layout for both content and photography giving it the style of an art magazine.

A Love For Life Silence and HIV Theater Production Programme cover Art & Design | Tool kit - Booklet Layout | Posters Programme cover: The dancing tree of Suva point, 2009. With what was originally a white piece of fabric photoshoped red to match the red ribbon theme. Booklet Layout: Using the performing arts as an awareness tool this booklet included both the script and a tool kit for raising awarness and educating youths and families on the topic of HIV in the pacific. The layout was kept simple as desired targeting the general public.

Co n ce pt ua l Pie ces In my free time I’ve worked on concepts for additional marketing material. Focusing on event packages I have used previous works from past events to create the following T-shirts | DVD | CD’s

G o a l s a n d Inte re s ts My love for music, street art, fashion design, sociology and media activism has spiked an interest in T-shirt designing, album art designs and short film. There isn’t much oppertunity for these works here in Fiji but there seems to be an available online market that I would like to enter. I am also currently working on further developing my photography, digital and multi media art skills as a hobby and hope to have a solo exhibition in 2 years.. Art and Education in the Pacific and its benefits, another one of my interests and life goals that I am currently working towards and have enrolled in the diploma programme for Early Childhood Educatuion at the univerity of the South Pacific. I hope to secure a teaching position in art and education or graphic design and photography in the later years after completing my masters degree.

This portfolio was designed to showcase a larger variety of work within itself When creating a portfolio, concept projects do not hold as much value because they were not created in a real environment. With quality over quantity in mind I have taken the opportunity to showcase a wider variety of skills by integrating both conceptual ideas and previous projects. Thank you for your time.
