Masonry Detailing Series The Masonry Detailing Series (MDS) is an exhaustive collection of illustrative construction details and diagrams produced by International Masonry Institute (IMI) for architects and engineers to use as a design resource. This compilation includes hundreds of details for brick, block, and stone masonry systems, as well as details for ceramic tile, marble, terrazzo, plaster, rain screen systems, terra cotta, AAC, and masonry restoration. The details are developed by IMI’s technical team of architects and engineers, and are reviewed by International Masonry Training and Education Foundation (IMTEF) masonry apprentice instructors, Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) journeyman craftworkers, and BAC union contractors to ensure constructability.

IMI

introduced MDS in 2006 on its website, www.imiweb.org, and since that time they have actively supported the

series, updating details and adding new content several times per year. With IMI’s leadership in the BIM-M (BIM for Masonry) task force, many of these details will soon be made available for BIM software on a variety of platforms. Users can currently access the Masonry Detailing series free of charge from IMI’s home page or www.masonrydetails.org.
