SUMMARY

In proposal we aimed to create a representative and universal urban space for events and recreation. The main objective is to make the public square an attractive place to spend a wide range of leisure time and organize events such as city celebrations, commemorations, gatherings, and even religious celebrations. When designing the space, we took into account the shape of the existing square and existing city paths. Adjusting the shape of the public square, we designed it into a rectangular shape, had a look to the actual pedestrian flows, and designed new walking paths. There are some overgrown and dangerous trees. In cooperation with the city architect, it was decided which trees to leave, for this reason we formed square oases of green areas in a rectangular plane, leaving trees to be protected inside in them. We surrounded the oases with a board structure on which are designed benches. The main idea of the created square is our national folklore strip. Lithuanian nationality is always associated with independence. The rectangular public square is a large national strip, the motif of the ornament is placed in the pavement of the square with different blocks of stone. The foundation for the monument and the place for the fountain have been here for many years. Since the locations of the fountain and the monument were the right proportions of the square, we created by attaching to the foundation of the existing monument, the fountain and the protected trees. The created composition of the fountain will allow children to run in the fountain area and play with water on hot summer days. A children's playground was abandoned, and we moved the area of the playground away from the streets for the safety of children. We have provided a soft surface for the children's playground and new play equipment.
