EASTWOOD CFC

It’s been a busy couple of weeks, and our last home game against AFC Mansfield was satisfying after a great win. Over the past couple of weeks, we have been putting together the new scholarship program and academy to start in September. Our choice of partner is SGI Sports Group international and many of you will remember that former Eastwood Town manager Paul Cox who is heavily involved in this project.

We want to create a pathway and culture for our young players, from the youngest age group through to vets’ football, walking football via a program geared to developing the best footballers and young adults that is possible to achieve.

It’s been my pleasure to look at several age groups within the club and it is pleasing and heartening, not only to celebrate the successful teams but also to view the enjoyment that so many young people get from using the facilities here at Eastwood, and to promote the community spirit that the club engenders.

My thanks go to all the coaches who give up their time, to the parents and of course to the players who make this club what it is.

We have many positive plans for the club going forward and we will keep you informed of these in due course.

It is my intention over the next few weeks to invite everyone who is interested in becoming more involved in the club along to a meeting, but also to present to everyone in the club our vision for the future at Eastwood CFC.

Again, my thanks to you all. Uptheredbadgers!

Last weekend was a blessing and a curse for us not having a fixture. It has allowed us to get 3 good training sessions in before today’s fixture which has been great for us but at the same time after a great result against AFC Mansfield it would of been better to have a game to hopefully keep the momentum going.

We are really looking forward to a big local derby and hopefully getting 3 points, with the brand of football we want to play the current squad are more than capable of playing attractive winning football that hopefully will slowly but surely get people back through the doors like the good old days!

Where It All Began

The club was formed in 1968 and played its early football in the Alfreton & District Sunday League, of which they were a founding member. They continued in the league for around eight seasons whilst establishing themselves. For the 1977/78 Season, their attention turned to the Nottinghamshire Sunday Football League in which they finished runners-up in Division Three of the Premier section in their first season under the management of Graham (Dart) D’Arcy. A period was spent in the different local leagues, but in the late 80’s with the ambition to progress, the club decided to concentrate on Saturday football and joined the Central Midlands Football League.

In the 1990-91 season the first team won the C.M.L Division One Cup. In the meantime, the club had taken on board their first junior sides, operating initially in the Rowsley & District Youth League and shortly afterwards in the Derby City Youth League, Mansfield Youth League and in the late 90’s the Notts Imperial Youth League. Junior football has really taken off in recent years, growing from four junior teams in 2008 to nine for the 2016/17 season, with many honours won along the way. The club had a period without senior football and concentrated on the junior section.

In 2006 the decision was made to start a men’s team again; a side was entered the Midland Regional Alliance for the 06/07 season. This team had notable success winning Division 2 in 2007/08 by a margin of 14 points and scoring 175 goals. They also won the MRA Junior Cup that year, beating Division 1 side Willington 8-2 in the final and lifted the Notts Junior Cup, beating The Three Crowns 3-1 in extra time.

A reserve side was started in 2009/10 in the MRA Division Two and despite attempting to keep a pathway open to the first team for junior players, the reserves team proved difficult to keep going. However, they did have some success, winning the Notts Junior Cup in 2011/12 as the first team had done a few seasons earlier.
