MOTEL HISTORY
-Widespread automobile use of the 1920’s saw tourism across the US flourish -”Tourist camps” sprung up in small towns, bringing business, along with trash and “loose morals” - Cabin camps and courts evolved from tourist camp owners providing more amenities -Rise of motels coincided with highway systems built from the 1920’s through the 1950’s -Fun fact, Colonel Sanders of KFC got his start with motels, which included restaurants serving his then not-as-famous chicken -Motel industry peaked in the 1960’s image: Mark Haven

-Lack of standardization and rise of interstate system brought the decline of motel industry -Hotel standardization offered guests a guaranteed level of quality and amenities provided
BEGINNINGS
-Design for the module stemmed from the idea of novelty through functionality, that by changing the way the room functioned it would become novel, memorable to the guests who stay at it. Working with a confined space, I opted for a “library shelf design with certain walls set on tracks so that a guest can adjust the spaces as they see fit. Beds and tables fold into the walls, with a recessed common area in the middle of the floor.
