Budget Friendly Holiday Gift Ideas The holidays can be a fun and magical time, but they can also be busy. Between planning parties, decorating your house and shopping for gifts, it can be costly. Here are six personalized DIY gifts your friends and family will love without having to break the bank:
Personalized Recipe Book: Find a journal and add your favorite recipes to it. You could include holiday recipes or year-round meals, whatever you prefer! Your family and friends will appreciate the thoughtfulness and personal touch. Mini Succulent Garden: Turn your love for succulents into a fun holiday gift! Take a ceramic bowl or mason jar, fill it with potting soil and plant your succulents! Make it festive by adding colorful ribbons or ornaments around your bowl or jar. Cozy Fleece Blanket: Keep Jack Frost away with the gift of a fleece blanket. Head over to your local craft store to pick up some fun, patterned fleece fabric. Cut the edges roughly one inch at a time, with a depth of two inches, and tie your newly created edges for an easy, cozy tie blanket. DIY Apron: Cut 1-inch wide and 2-inch long strips along the edges of the fabric and tie every two pieces together. Purchase a plain canvas apron and some paint and let your (or your child’s) creativity take the lead on this fun gift for a loved one. Cookies or Cocoa in a Jar: Share your favorite cookie recipe or the mixings for a nice cup of hot chocolate! Layer all ingredients into a mason jar and attach a recipe or instructions. Decorate your jar like a snowman or another fun holiday character for extra holiday cheer. Youth Savings Account: Looking for a practical gift for a child or teen? According to the National Financial Education Council, 76% of college students wish they had more help to prepare for their financial futures. Open a youth savings account and begin teaching the value of saving from a young age! By taking the time to create personalized gifts, you can focus more on spending this time with loved ones.

THE BEACHES OF AGNES - FILM SCREENING
Time: 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Location: Sonoma State University, Ives Hall, Warren Auditorium, 1801 East Cotati Ave, Rohnert Park Cost: Free Details: “Starting alone on a beach, the eighty-year-old director Agnès Varda prepares for the serious play and heartfelt whimsy of this filmed autobiography, from 2008. When, moments later, under her exacting direction, her crew sets up a rickety array of antique mirrors on that beach, she establishes her retrospective view as a truth that’s inseparable from the fictions of her imagination. Though Varda offers a more or less chronological tour of the sites (in France and elsewhere) and the sights (her movies, photographs, and art projects) of her life, her main order of business is love. In clever, freely associative set pieces, she sparks encounters with family members and long-unseen friends who guide her spoken reminiscences. The emotional core of the film is Varda’s life with her husband, the director Jacques Demy (who died in 1990), who, even now, continues to inspire her. Uninhibited about sex, generous in her affections, worldly-wise, blending tender recollections with selfdeprecating antics, Varda, free from fear and shame, turns her tale of a life lived in art into a work of art in its own right, and one of her best—a rapturous tribute to life itself.” - Richard Brody, The New Yorker (in French w/English subtitles). Released: 2008. Run time: 110 Min. Contact: nicholse@sonoma.edu, 707-664-2606, sfi.sonoma.edu/schedule

FROM EVE TO ME
Time: 7-9:30 p.m. Location: Coffee Cats, 6761 Sebastopol Avenue, Sebastopol Cost: $20 Details: Whether you were raised in the mythologies of religion or not, the Bible remains a potent book in our world today and is too often used to dominate, control, separate and intimidate. From Eve to Me is a one-woman show that retells these ancient stories through the voice of the Feminine, cracking your heart open and revealing the truth that we already have the creativity and power to write NEW stories for the world we want to create! The collection of stories presented in From Eve to Me was created over AmyJo Mattheis’ professional life as an ordained pastor, university professor, non-profit executive and as a mother, daughter, lover, partner, friend and citizen of this world and universe. In this masterful performance, AmyJo skillfully guides her audience through an experience of ancient sacred stories from the voice of the feminine that remaps the shape of how we have been told to view the world and be in it; shifting the painful stories of domination, scarcity, separation and control to a tale of abundance, cocreation, sensuality and unity. This transformational work retells the stories that divide, separate and breed fear in our collective consciousness, inspiring all who see the performance to become cultural and societal change agents. WINTER SOLSTICE SOUND HEALING CEREMONY
Time: 8-9 a.m. Location: Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary, 209 Bohemian Highway, Freestone Cost: $10-$25 Details: Our place here on Salmon Creek is home to many animals and plants. We humans are just day visitors. Morning fog and mist hangs long in this cool bottomland. On cold winter nights, the water vapors often crystalize into frost and ice. The chill has a special quality of stillness, which brings us closer to the quiet energies of this valley village, known as Freestone. A special team of healers and musicians are gathering to hold sacred space on the Winter Solstice to acknowledge this place in our watershed, in the cycle of time and the trajectory of our lives. By means of harmonics, energy, and love we will call out to our ancestors, plant and animal beings to join in a circle of prayer and alchemy to bring forth the full power of this critical moment when darkness subsides and the light begins to return. With sound from gongs and other instruments, each person will be enabled to connect to their inner spirit and the surrounding abundance of nature. Afterward, a limited number of people will have an opportunity to have a deeper healing experience with sound therapy in an Enzyme Footbath. The Cedar Enzyme Footbath immediately following the event is $15 with very limited tickets available. Entry fee of $10 can be applied to any same day service. Contact: www.eventbrite.com
