Baby blankets- choosing the right fabric for baby

Page 1

If you have ever gone shopping for baby blankets online or off, you've likely been overwhelmed by the amount of fabric choices available. Cotton, Muslin, Wool, etc.; which one is best for your baby? The answer to that all depends on your baby's primary needs. Probably the most common material is of course cotton. Do a search for cotton baby blankets and you might be surprised at just how many choices there are for just that one fabric. Perhaps the most common, and one of the best, choices is the hospital grade receiving blanket. What puts this baby blanket above many others on the list is it's special interlocking cotton weave; though it makes these blankets feel more like weathered cardboard at first touch, once wrapped up, babies stay comfy, warm, and cozy; thanks in great part to the breathing properties of the special interlocking cotton weave.

If you are concerned about longevity when picking a new blanket, then perhaps micro fiber baby blankets are the way to go. Made of the latest synthetic fiber available, micro fiber blankets provide the same warming properties of traditional baby blankets, with added stain and liquid resistance. Thanks to the micro fiber's synthetic makeup, these types of blankets tend to wear slower and be easier to clean than those made of traditional non synthetic materials. Another wonderful material to look for is muslin. Similar to typical cotton receiving blankets, muslin also incorporates an open weave which allows your baby to stay warm and comfortable while still having just enough air flowing through the muslin weave to prevent overheating.

Of course there are many other viable fabrics perfect for wrapping your baby in; wool and fleece for when you and your baby are somewhere very cold, if not freezing, amazingly durable and soft double knit cotton weaves, and lightweight flannel. There are even high en d cashmere and silk baby blankets for those whom money is no object. As you can see there are many fantastic choices when shopping for a baby blanket (and other fabric baby products;) all of which do their job quite well. So the next time you go shopping for a new blanket, you can be confident that no matter which type of material you choose, your baby will be warm and snuggly in his or her new blanket.
