About me
Sarah Mitchell
I am a British ARB (reg no. 080306E) registered architect who is passionate about the power of good design. I really enjoy working with clients to achieve and exceed the expectations of their vision. I try to establish a culture of openness and collaboration in the design process resulting in buildings everyone feels invested in and with a considered design that has a positive impact on lives. I enjoy the use of contrasting textures, durable detailing and the creation of spaces that delight. In the office I am highly organised team player with good time-management and financial control skills which help to retain happy clients and ensure design success.

INTERESTS
I hold a foundation degree in Garden Design and am able to approach landscaping and architecture as part of the same design brief. I was awarded a bronze medal RHS medal for exhibiting a small garden at Hampton Court Palace Show and endeavour to continually update my knowledge.
In my free time I try to stay up to date with design trends and exciting projects via Dezeen, Contemporist and Pinterest. I also enjoy sharing any new-found knowledge on my website (rengadesign.co.uk). When I am away from my computer I usually have a camera in my hand am off exploring bangkok and its food.

ARCHITECTURAL SOFTWARE
I became closely involved with the regional branch of the Royal Institute of British Architects from 2010, organising and promoting events. Often in collaboration with the local Arts University. I love to meet others in the profession outside of the office as it helps to reflect on my work and seek continuous improvement.
Since moving to Thailand I’ve continued to remain involved with Brightspace Architects. I have developed my graphic design skills while working for local clients and attended the ASA forum 2015.

Presentation Documents
I have been developing my use of visualisation software. These images are from a project for a luxury house where the brief was to produce images that look like architectural models. I am always looking to expand software skills and enjoy exploring new methods of visual communication in my free time.
Recently I have had the opportunity to develop my graphics skills both by producing documents to communicate the design process to clients and stakeholders and through other graphic design projects such as posters and brochures. I am able to produce high quality, clear, visual communication. The image below is a visualisation of a completed installation of a large Bhodhi Tree at Bangkok Patana School.
Photoshop I recently completed the visualisation (right) for a winning bid for a very large multi-use development.

Sixth form refractory I had sole responsibility for the architectural services and delivery of this project on site. It was a design and build project and I had to liaise with the county architect and the contractors to seek building regulations approval and develop the technical drawings for the delivery of the project.

I designed 100sqm of office space in a rural location. The design had to be sympathetic to the landscape and flexible enough to be subdivided in multiple ways. I took inspiration from modern barns and incorporated wide access decks. under construction

RESIDENTIAL MASTER PLANNING + HOUSING
BEECH COTTAGE
under construction
I designed and achieved planning permission for this contemporary house within a conservation area. The design was based on a split mass with views through from the approach to the property to the mature beech tree beyond
RANSOMS This 1960’s farm bungalow was remodeled to create a family house that made better use of the views across the open countryside. A brand new appearance was achieved yet much of the original building was retained while improving thermal performance.
I have experience of residential development at all scales • One-off luxury housing • Affordable housing for the government • Estate planning for national house builders. I have developed a good knowledge for the British vernacular and like to design in a way that is contemporary but also reflects the character of the site and the surroundings.

steps club for young people This lottery funded project is a replacement facility for the young people of Weymouth. It is a large facility on a sloping site including sports facilities. Key themes were durability and visual connectivity through the building to encourage young people to become involved with the wide range of activities on offer. I designed the building, presenting the scheme to a regional design panel. I worked on the project through to planning which included designing to BREEAM standards ’very good’.

HAMWORTHY LIBRARY Hamworthy Library was the first building I designed while working for Archial. I was fortunate enough to work on the project from conception to completion. We had to work with the funding body (Big Lottery) and the local Library service to develop a building that is not only a library but a community center for the people of Hamworthy. The design had to be robust yet attractive, light-filled and enticing. Photo-voltaic cells were incorporated into the front elevation.
