Presenting Tyler Farr

9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 “One of the best male vocalists in Country music today,” (Taste of Country), Tyler Farr is the first artist signed to Jason Aldean’s Night Train Records/BBR Music Group. The country rocker, with three No. 1 songs to his credit (“Redneck Crazy,” “Whiskey in My Water,” and “A Guy Walks Into a Bar”) broke onto the scene with the 2013 release of his debut album, Redneck Crazy, which landed at No. 2 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart and #5 on the Billboard Top 200. Farr’s platinum-selling title-track “Redneck Crazy” projected Farr forward to celebrate backto-back No. 1 singles, including his first No. 1 as a songwriter, with his Platinumcertified hit “Whiskey in my Water.” His sophomore album, Suffer In Peace followed suit, also making its debut in the Top 5 on both the BILLBOARD Top 200 Albums and BILLBOARD Country Albums Charts, leading Farr to become

The 2021 Isle of Wight County Fair is dedicated to honor the memory of Terry Lynn Hedgepeth. Hedgepeth, proud farmer and owner of Hedgepeth Farms, provided tireless effort and invaluable service to the community in a number of ways, but specifically to the Isle of Wight County Fair for many years. He was involved in many fairs over a number of years, always working and supporting the fair in many ways. A man not wanting to be in the spotlight, he preferred working in the background, as he loved the fair and what the fair did to celebrate agriculture. Hedgepeth gave so much to the fair over the years, spending much time leading up to the fair preparing for the Heritage and Agriculture areas to make those areas as best they could be for the fair. He was always in those areas during the fair to provide any needed encouragement, supporting everything heritage and agriculture through a major growth period. His farm provided corn, peanuts, soybeans and other items needed to help decorate and provide entertainment for the children. Hedgepeth also supported the fair by entering into the competitions, winning the Farm Excellence Award in 2014 and the Hay Bale Competition in 2016. If there was anything needed to support the fair, if he had it, was a mere phone call away for him to provide it. For all he did to help make the Isle of Wight County Fair one of the best in Virginia, the fair committee dedicates this 2021 Fair to the memory of Terry Lynn Hedgepeth.

the only solo male country artist in the past decade to have his first two studio albums debut in the Top 5 on the Billboard 200 Chart. Recognized as a 2014 CRS New Faces of Country Radio and 2014 Music Row “Breakthrough Artist of the Year” nominee, the opera-trained singer quickly earned coveted slots touring with Jason Aldean, Florida Georgia Line, Brantley Gilbert, Luke Combs and Lee Brice. Farr has his own reality series “A Little Too Farr (Unscripted)” and is currently working on new music with longtime friend Jason Aldean serving as a producer for the forthcoming project.

ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY FAIR

From The Chairman To our Fair Friends and Family:

On behalf of the Isle of Wight County Fair Committee, I would like to cordially invite you to our international and statewide award-winning 28th annual County Fair. The committee has planned another great event this year to honor and celebrate our community. The theme for this year is “From Ferris Wheels to Tractor Wheels” to commemorate Isle of Wight’s commitment to bring you entertainment to its deep and strong agricultural heritage. As everyone knows, the COVID-19 pandemic caused us to not even have the fair last year, so we are looking forward to this year’s fair to be our biggest and best yet! We have two events for an early kick-off to the fair again this year, with our very popular and exciting Truck and Tractor Points Pull the night of Saturday, Sept. 11 and the wonderful and delicious Seafood Fest on Wednesday, Sept. 15, featuring; David King: A Tribute to Elvis — Through The Years. There are quite a few new and exciting things at the fair this year, in addition to some of the great attractions we have had in past years. Brand new this year, we are bringing Southwest Dairy Farmers Mobile Dairy Classroom, where they will be doing educational milking demonstrations between the Agricultural tent and the Ag. Education Center. Laser Tag is coming back and best of all, it is free to the patrons. Another new and exciting thing we are having this year is Axe Throwing, a new experience indeed. The Demolition Derby is back again on Sunday afternoon, a now premier event to our fair! The ever-popular Hay Bale Decorating Contest is back again, where round bales of hay are decorated by the schools, various businesses and a few by individuals. In addition, this year, fair attendees will be able to get admission tickets cheaper if bought online in lieu of at the gate! Please visit our website at thefairiscoming.com for more detail. We will have the excitement of “Bull Riding” and “Barrel Racing” along with “Mutton Bustin” at the rodeo arena with real cowboys! In the Field and Garden tent, our local farmers and gardeners can compete for best crops,

and children will be able to participate in “Farmer for a Day” where they can milk a cow and play with a goat! The little ones can play in a corn/soybean box or in a big sandbox outside the tent. In partnership with the Isle of Wight County Schools, there will be goats, rabbits, chickens and maybe even a heifer or two over by the Agriculture Education Center, where they are showcasing their Project Based Learning farming skills. Our local 4-H folks will feature a feeder pig, heifer show, goat show and ham competitions in the 4-H tent. Be sure to visit our international award-winning Agriculture Education Center, a donated grain bin that houses interactive farm games for kids and flat-screen televisions with various videos featuring planting, growing and harvesting a variety of farm crops and the raising of livestock including birthing of animals. If you watch closely, many of the videos feature some of our local farmers. In that area is a farm life wall mural that the children will be able to color and may be able to dig some potatoes or shell some corn with our antique corn sheller. Four ground acts are planned this year, including the return of the very popular Johnny Rockett’s Cycle Circus LIVE! an amazing motorcycle and BMX bike show with many stunts and jumps. New this year is The Pirates of the Colombian Caribbean high wire act and also Cowboy Circus with Danny Grant an incredible interactive and educational experience that is a stage act as well as a walking and roaming act. There will be a farm-themed variety show, Agri-Puppets, an entertaining educational show about agriculture, farming and animals. We have a fantastic entertainment lineup, with performances of several genres, on either the Duke Automotive Stage or the Barton Ford Stage almost the entire time the fair is open. On Friday night, we are having “Flashback Friday” focusing on the ’80s with regional popular cover band The Deloreans, and headlining is Who’s Bad: The Ultimate Michael Jackson Experience. On Saturday night will be country singer and songwriter, Tyler Farr, national recording artist with chart topping songs such as “Our Town,” “Redneck Crazy,” “A Guy Walks Into

a Bar,” “Only Truck in Town,” and “Cover Girl,” which is climbing the charts right now! Opening is Chase Payne Band from Virginia Beach, with recorded songs, “Loud,” “Taillights,” and “Comes From the Heart.” In addition, we have many popular regional and local bands entertaining on both stages, including River Boyz, Scott Holland, Luke Willette Band, and on Sunday during the car show, there will be Runnin’ Shine! Amusements of America will be here to provide a large variety of midway rides for all ages. We will have 20 food vendors (mostly local) to provide a huge variety of wonderful fair food, to satisfy almost any appetite. There will be a talent show, antique tractors, school displays, antique tractor pull, monster truck rides, the car show, and camel and pony rides. Thursday night is carload night, where admission and ride tickets for up to eight legally seated in a car is $50 online or $55 at the gate, a very good deal for families. Friday is school day with special group rates and Senior Day, where senior citizens get

in between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for $1. Sunday is Military Appreciation Days. With a valid Military ID, admission is only $5 if bought online, $5 off adult admission at the gate. Also, on Sunday you can buy wristbands to ride the entire day for $25. As you can see, there is so very much to do, it is nearly impossible to do everything at the fair. It is this Fair Committees’ sincere desire that this year’s fair will be the most unforgettable and fun-filled family event of the year for our community, with a celebration of our agriculture heritage and with a bit of education thrown in. We certainly hope you come to visit us and make the most out of what the fair has to offer. Welcome and enjoy every single minute of the 2021 ”From Ferris Wheels to Tractor Wheels” Isle of Wight County Fair! It is our desire to make this one the best yet! Sincerely, DANNY BYRUM Chairman, Isle of Wight County Fair President, Virginia Association of Fairs

The Deloreans

7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17

The Deloreans is a seasoned six-piece show-band composed of six distinct vocalists that cover the most memorable artists and nostalgic songs of the ’80s. Each band member is featured throughout the show, making this band’s most notable attribute its unmatched variety. The Deloreans are known for their dynamic ’80s costumes, unstoppable energy, and their ability to bring down the house. From small intimate weddings to city events drawing tens of thousands, the Deloreans have performed all over the East Coast since 2007. With a playlist of songs topping 10 hours, the Deloreans can tailor their show to a variety of settings and meet the needs of any crowd. The Deloreans’ members are professional, seasoned performers. Collectively, they have performed in over six countries, for several heads of state, and for three sitting U.S. presidents. Who’s Bad: The Ultimate Michael Jackson Experience 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17

Founded in 2003, Who’s Bad’s live performance is an unrivaled celebration of the King of Pop. Their power-packed performance of Michael Jackson’s expansive catalog has ignited crowds on every continent and can only be described as a jaw-dropping, musical must-see. As the longest-running Michael Jackson tribute band, and the only one to predate his untimely passing, Who’s Bad has awed even the skep-

Duke Automotive Stage tics, selling out nearly 50 venues in the United Kingdom including London’s O2 in December of 2010, the venue where the King of Pop was slated to end his career with a 50-show “This Is It” concert series. Beyond this unparalleled achievement, Who’s Bad has checked some of the world’s most famous pavilions off their “to-do” list, selling out their first tour of China with stops at Ningbo’s Grand Theatre and Hunan Grand Theatre in Chengsha. Never neglecting Michael’s U.S. fans, Who’s Bad has packed The House of Blues franchise all across the United States; rocked DC’s 930 Club and returned to their native Chapel Hill, North Carolina, boasting larger, more eagerlyawaited performances with every romp around the globe. Sold-out shows from Colorado’s Bluebird Theatre and LA’s Gibson Amphitheatre and Romania’s Sala Palatalui to Teatro do Bourbon Country (Porto Alegre, Brazil) tell the story: no corner of the earth is safe from this infectious party production. gravity-defying dance move, boasting more than 100 years of professional experience and a team of dancers with resumes that include Broadway productions such as “Phantom of the Opera.” Vamsi Tadepalli (Who’s Bad founder, composer and saxophonist) assembled a cast of North Carolina’s premiere musicians and, from Who’s Bad’s inception, believed in the band’s boundless possibilities. The velvety vocals and pinpoint choreography of frontman James Times combined with the five-piece band’s blaring horns, down-deep rhythms and the dancer’s synchronized dance routines results in a performance delivered with soul and precision superseded by no one but the King himself. They’ve shared stages with the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, The Backstreet Boys, The Four Tops, Boys II Men, and Pitbull. Captivated fans include LIVENATION’s Anthony Nicolaidis who calls Who’s Bad, “the real deal,” and Michael Jackson’s longtime friend and manager Frank DiLeo who proclaimed after Who’s Bad show in Nashville, Tennessee, “the show was great….Michael would have been proud!”

Whether you idolized the Jackson 5, fell in love to “Human Nature,” or learned to moonwalk to “Billie Jean,” Who’s Bad is the ultimate music-and-dance driven Michael Jackson homage. This band of professionals relentlessly elevate the legacy of pop music’s King, always pushing themselves to be more precise, to raise the level of excitement and awe, while embodying Michael Jackson’s mission to bring people together of all races, genders and cultures through music. As the curtain opens on a Who’s Bad performance, every MJ fan feels the adrenaline, screams at the sight of that unmistakable silhouette, and succumbs to a surefire Michael Jackson sing-along. The energy is purely magnetic, the musicianship is first-rate, the dance moves deftly inspired. Who’s Bad is a tribute befitting a King and their high-octane execution of MJ’s music and dance has catapulted them to the exclusive rank of Ultimate!

Agricultural Education There will be many exhibits highlighting the work of the small farmer. You will see displays on bee hives, small barns, peanut stacks, pumpkin patches, portable chicken houses and fenced areas, row crops, farmers markets and even lemonade stands. In addition, there will be several displays on gardening and horticulture put on by the Western Tidewater Master Gardeners and competitions for field crops, vegetable crops and floral displays. For more information, contact Michelle Billups at 757-646-0780. The Agriculture Education Center is a 1,000-square-foot grain bin that was donated by fair supporters in 2014 and is used to educate young people and adults about the importance of farming, crop growing, gardening and raising livestock. Six workstations offer games to play that provide a journey through owning and operating a farm, selling at a farmers market, the importance of whole grains in our diet and understanding the mysteries of where food comes from. The Agriculture Education Center is set up with hands-on activities and large screen monitors to see animal birthing demonstrations, planting and harvesting by local farmers. The grain bin is totally educational and fun for families. For more information on the Agriculture Education Center, contact Theresa Woodall at therwoodall@gmail.com.

RURITAN Fellowship, Goodwill and Community Service The Isle of Wight Ruritan Club has been serving our community since 1948. Our proceeds go back to helping our community. We started serving food at the Isle of Wight County Fair when it was across the street at the Court House. We have enjoyed all of the years since, and will be present again at this year.

Come by our new metal structure at the Fairgrounds and enjoy some good food. We are still on the corner of Blue Ribbon and Cotton Candy Lanes. Ask any one working how you might join our club and enjoy the fellowship shared by our members. We hope to see you there! Don’t forget our Brunswick stew the first Saturday in November!
