Alsace and Germany: From Basel, cruise north along the Rhine, the border between France and Germany. See the highlights of the historic German town of Freiburg and stroll through the charming holiday market. In the afternoon, choose between two tours of lovely French towns: the 16th-century town of Riquewihr with its Alsatian wines, or Colmar with its many holiday markets and 14th-century Dominican church. Then spend a day in the principal Alsatian city of Strasbourg, and discover its history and architecture or culinary heritage, in addition to time to peruse the city market and a presentation about local family holiday traditions.
Heidelberg, Rüdesheim, and the Rhine Gorge: Take a walking tour of Heidelberg, showcasing the imposing hillside castle and the cathedral, and enjoy a special afternoon musical performance. The next day, choose from two tours around Rüdesheim: take in the Old Town and its special Christmas Market of the Nations, or visit the Abbey of St. Hildegard and enjoy a wine tasting. Then enjoy a leisurely afternoon cruising one of the most scenic sections of the Rhine, considered a World Heritage site, which features the famous Lorelei Rock and hillside castles around every bend.
