Our River Cruises

Sail Into the Heart of Your Destination

River Cruising

Cruise legendary rivers and sail into the heart of your destination, giving you more time to explore and learn! Our deluxe riverboats are small enough to dock in renowned towns and cities, yet large enough to provide upscale amenities and fascinating shore excursions. Return each day to a sophisticated home away from home and enjoy a convivial ambiance with other lifelong learners.

With Smithsonian Journeys, you’ll often find yourself aboard an Amadeus river ship. Accommodating just 120–168 guests, these riverboats are stylishly appointed with all the modern amenities. Meals are served in a single unassigned seating in the elegant restaurant, showcasing continental cuisine, with complimentary wine and beer served during lunch and dinner. Guests can enjoy a panoramic deck lounge and bar, a library, complimentary Wi-Fi, a salon, and a fitness studio with spa services.

You’ll find a similar ambiance and amenities aboard the Amalia Rodrigues and Mekong Navigator. See our exciting river cruise itineraries on the following pages and find all ship details online at SmithsonianJourneys.org/ships.

A Note on Activity Level

Our river cruises are full, immersive programs. They are ideal for travelers in good health with overall good mobility, and who are comfortable participating in at least three hours of group activity per day. Participants must be able to navigate the ship’s gangway unassisted. Many excursions require walking for extended periods of time during museum and city tours. If you have any concerns about your ability to participate in a tour, one of our Smithsonian Journeys Cultural Travel Specialists will be happy to assist you.

The tour was a truly wonderful, joyous experience—the places visited were interesting and often awe-inspiring, the ship was a lovely base, and the leaders were all marvelous—and, I might add, we had a thoroughly delightful group of fellow travelers!
