PRESS RELEASE March 1, 2010 Simpson Dura-Vent announces new Combustion Air System Stephen P. Eberhard, President and CEO of Simpson Dura-Vent announced the addition of a new, patent-pending Combustion Air System for free-standing wood and pellet stoves. The Combustion Air System (CAS) is designed as components to the company’s DuraTech, DuraPlus HTC, and PelletVent Pro product lines, consisting of uniquely engineered ceiling support boxes and wall thimbles that deliver outside air for combustion into the appliance, simplifying installations without requiring a second penetration in the building envelope. Fresh air use for combustion eliminates the use of conditioned inside air, improving the efficiency of central heating systems. Therefore, warm indoor air is not consumed for combustion and inner air quality is not subject to oxygen starvation, poor draft and other problems associated with ‘tight’ energy efficient homes. The system works in below grade (basement) installations as well, minimizing down-drafts. Fresh outside air is drawn in and circulated through baffles around the heated areas of the systems support box or wall thimble. For PelletVent Pro, the pre-heated air is delivered down a wall channel to assure that the pellet vent is not cooled. For DuraTech and DuraPlus HTC, the pre-heated air is supplied between the stove pipe’s 2nd and 3rd wall, while the 1st wall maintains high stove temperatures. An aluminum flex pipe connects the combustion air to the stoves air inlet port. The product for DuraTech and DuraPlus HTC wood stoves are available in 6” and 8” chimney diameters, using system-specific CAS Triple-Wall Connector Pipe , CAS Adjustable Pipe, CAS Elbow, CAS Tees , and CAS Stove Adapter, CAS Wall Thimble, CAS Ceiling Support box with Collar and 3” Aluminum Flex with Hose Clamp. The PelletVent Pro pellet stove system is available in 3” and 4” pellet chimney sizes, with the following available components: CAS Wall Thimble, 36” – 70” of Adjustable Channel, and Tee Snout and 3” Aluminum Flex with Hose Clamp. Preseason orders will be accepted in April for shipment in May. Simpson Dura-Vent is a wholly owned subsidiary of Simpson Manufacturing Co., Inc., Pleasanton, CA.
