Saxophonist Art Sherrod is leading The Art Sherrod Jr. Orchestra’s Motown, Soul Revue and Aretha Franklin Tribute on April 6. Although nearly every show is a highlight, one of the most popular is always the Annual Berks Jazz Fest All-Star Jam, which has been rebranded as The Chuck Loeb Memorial All-Star Jam. Braun, whose performance this year marks his 24th appearance at the Berks Jazz Fest, and Veasley, a 27-time fest veteran, are co-producing this concert, which features Peter White, Richard Elliot and Phil Perry, among others, to honor the legacy of the amazing guitarist on April 11. “My relationship with Chuck goes back 20 years,” said Ernesto. “Chuck and I worked together and had brainstorming sessions to create special performances for the fest. Chuck loved the Berks Jazz Fest, and his legacy will live on here every year.” And, that remembrance will also carry on in the form of scholarships through the Berks Arts Council, producer of the Berks Jazz Fest, which started the scholarship fund. “It is being administrated by the Reading Musical Foundation. We have raised over $15,000 to date,” Ernesto explained. “The first recipient(s) will be announced in February, and they will perform during the fest.” With more than 300 artists performing 120 concerts over 10 days, there will be plenty of memory-making experiences for the anticipated 40,000 attendees to engage in and cherish for years to come.
