Architecture connects all beings at all levels of their existence, everywhere and everyday in life. Experiencing ‘connections’ in the natural and constructed spaces adds to the overall being. In search of spaces, spaces which bind all I delve further.

Ramada Hotel / A boutique hotel West Bengal ,India

Professional project : r + d studio, India The project emphasizes on a multi-scalar approach to site and program, embracing local, regional, and global scales and advancing the role of an architect as a catalytic and thoughtful practitioner who places himself among diverse actors, existing conditions, and imagined futures. Situated in Darjeeling which once was a small hill town has since the year 2000, metamorphosed into an urban network of chaotic built with a sudden increase in home stays and government approved projects for 350 hotels due to boom in tourism. The client decided to seize this opportunity and put up the very first responsible hotel that addressed the prevailing issues of water shortages, lack of planned infrastructure and create a project in the heart of the city without disturbing the character of organic growth that the city chose.

6

The architecture of the building blends into the context to create a presence that is both local and global. The façade is a subtle reminder of the mountains within the new urban sprawl in a way cautioning the city of its erratic growth. It mimics the Sandakphu mountain peak. Series of mountains , play of volumes, materials and stark play of light and shadow gives the facade it’s main feature. The base of the building is an extension of the street with a series of retail.

collaborative project

Within the chaotic urban feel is the unoblivious entrance into the hotel that opens to a lobby which unlike its exterior is a representation of the global aesthetics of a modern hotel. The interior is a reminiscence of the mountains and reflects in the pattens and textures and use of materials which gives the place a boutique feel. The geometric patterning of the triangulated mountain wall is referenced through out the hotel in form of screen, carpets and surface treatments such as the tessellated suspended ceilings above the lobby.

Professional project : r + d studio, India The architecture of the house explores a play of volumes, materials and stark play of light and shadow. The volume blocking is strong and rigid and the big central courtyard adds to the key feature of the house. Sheltering Alcoves Rome, Italy

Studio Project - Rhode island school of design The Palazzetto Cenci is a perfect example of 16th century Renaissance architecture, exhibiting strong symmetry, proportion and geometry. The history and resulting monumentality it houses challenges the possibility of intervention. To integrate the flexible and fluid spatial quality found in RISD’s Providence campus is a challenge especially the hidden and separate spaces that have been appropriated within the interior over time. The whole aim is to give Palazzetto Cenci a character that makes it both the home and studio for RISD.

Reflections - space for belief and making Providence, Rhode Island

Studio project - Rhode island school of design Adaptive reuse of church buildings bridges the gap between a functioning church and a church getting deteriorated or demolished. The church as a space works around the idea of one belief. It is sacred, religious, strong and powerful. It is made of belief(s) which connect the people to it. The main challenge we face today is bringing communities and youth together under one roof. The proposed project revolves around retaining the aspect of belief and focusing on inter – belief and interfaith in the existing structure while engaging the ‘community’ and ‘youth’ in the process of making. Belief and making being two separate ideas are interlinked because of the environment they are housed in. The Intervention in the main level space is informed by the angular geometry created from the form of the church. The space houses the people interested in exploring the idea of inter - belief and interfaith. This space can also be used for religious gatherings and discussions when required.

Installation Design Newport, Rhode Island

Design elective : Rhode island school of design Ida’s dream is an installation that reconstructs not the recorded history but the imagined history of Ida Lewis, the keeper of the Lime Rock Lighthouse from 1842 to 1911 who had to step into her father’s role at the early age of 16. Her story and those of other women like her who make such bold sacrifices needs to be told. Panels of dyed fabric evoking the ocean, strong imagined voice of Ida talking and domestic props gives a theatrical feel to the barracks. The viewer walks in Ida’s dream where the mighty water has enveloped them. The 18 coiled pieces of rope in various parts of the room references the 18 recorded rescues Ida made in her lifetime.
