Pre Cruise Measures

Your health – The Questionnaire Filling out your ship manifest is routine for our travel consultants at the office. The usual information is now supplemented by a health questionnaire which must be completed by all travelers and presented on arrival to the port terminal. This is how we ensure that the data is as much up to date as possible. Check-in - now contactless Newly introduced processes and measures ensure contactless embarkation and compliance with the minimum distances required in the port terminal during your arrival. The online check-in will be mandatory for all travel participants (our travel consultants will help you). In this way, all required documents and information are already recorded. New for our Blue Voyages: There will be fixed time frames for your check-in in order to limit the number of people who are simultaneously in the port terminal. Please understand that access to the terminal will not be possible outside of this period. You will be communicated your check-in time when receiving your documents for the cruise. Trust is good - control is better: Before entering the port terminal, your body temperature is measured as a precaution. Social Distancing Of course, we keep our distance wherever it is necessary - but that cannot separate us from you. On board the Mein Schiff 6, we already have the best seat-per-passenger ratio. For even more distance on board, we limit the number of passengers at the start of the Blue Voyage to a maximum of 40 percent per voyage. In addition, we temporarily adjust all processes in the guest and crew area to comply with distance and hygiene rules. All guests and crew members are required to keep a mutual safety distance of at least 1.5 meters in the public areas of the ship. Wherever this distance cannot be observed, we ask for mutual protection to wear a mouth-nose protection. This applies, for example, to elevators, stairwells and cabin corridors. In some cases you will also find structural changes such as plexiglass displays or marked walkways. Basically, comparable rules of conduct and distance apply as on land. Trained crew members advise our guests of these rules. Restaurant Service - Now also at the buffet Personal on-site service and various service restaurants without fixed table times are also part of the concept of the Mein Schiff 6. We will be happy to serve you at the place of your choice during the Blue Cruise. At our buffets and beverage stations, our crew takes care of serving your favorite dishes and drinks. Bars & Lounges: Free choice of place We are happy to take your drink order in the bars of the Mein Schiff at your seat. There will be no bar-stools directly at the bars. Incidentally, things are even more spacious here than usual: in the restaurants and bars, the tables and seating are set up at a generous distance from one another. More space for you, more time to relax. Entertainment program on board Of course, we also implement consistent distance rules during the diverse events on board. Events, sports offers and entertainment offers with a small number of participants, such as yoga classes or performances in the sound house can continue to take place. Our programs in the theater will also be smaller, but no less interesting. We cannot do larger events such as pool parties or large soccer tournaments for the time being but we will surprise you on board with alternative programs. For the time being, there will only be individual treatments in the SPA & Meer area, while the sauna will remain closed until further notice.
Maximum hygiene - a clean thing On board the Mein Schiff fleet, great importance is attached to hygiene even in normal operation. We have now expanded these already existing and firmly established measures. All regularly touched surfaces on board are continuously cleaned and disinfected. Highly effective cleaning agents and surface disinfectants against bacteria and viruses are used. Our crew members protect themselves with continuous disinfection using masks and gloves. In addition, every passenger cabin is thoroughly disinfected on each day of arrival and departure. Only after all departing guests have left the ship and the public areas have been completely cleaned do we begin with the check-in of arriving passengers. In addition, we pay close attention to thorough hand hygiene for all guests and crew members. Washing hands and subsequent disinfection is mandatory before entering all restaurants. We also provide more disinfectant dispensers in public areas. Guests and crew members can disinfect their hands at any time and at all important contact points. In addition to the restaurants and bars, this includes the SPA & sports area and the reception. On Board Hospital Medical care for all guests and crew members is ensured at all times by the on-board hospital, which is staffed by German doctors and nurses who speak English. As a precautionary measure, both the crew and the equipment of the on-board hospital are being increased: The purchase of additional test and laboratory equipment ensures maximum protection for everyone on board. An early warning system was introduced especially in connection with the disease of COVID-19, which is based on continuous monitoring of disease symptoms and daily temperature measurement of guests and crew members. From now on, the crew of the Mein Schiff fleet will also be reinforced - in addition to the sanitation officer - by a new officer: The "Infection Control Officer" who will train the crew on a regular basis and also monitors compliance with the newly implemented measures to protect against infectious diseases. We are thus optimally prepared to act immediately in the unlikely event of an infection. There are defined processes for this and there is close cooperation with the German health authorities on land. Our Mein Schiff crew - well prepared The corona pandemic has brought with it many new and unprecedented challenges for our entire industry. What helps us particularly in coping with this time is our reliable and highly motivated Mein Schiff crew. For your own safety and that of all guests, the crew is tested, equipped and extensively trained for use on board. Of course, all protective measures and precautions also apply to our crew members. We have also taken other precautions: some employees will wear face shields while they are serving you. Depending on the field of activity, other crew members are equipped with mouth-nose protection, safety glasses and/or disposable gloves. Our crew is fully trained at the time of your arrival. All crew members submitted a negative COVID-19 test before arrival on board. In addition, each crew member initially goes into isolation for a temporary period. Only after this isolation period has ended and if there are no symptoms, will the crew member start working. Together - for each other Dear guests, we need you! As you can see, we take care of you, our crew and each other. But once again, the same applies to us on board as it does on land: The best ideas, hygiene concepts and precautionary measures only work if everyone is willing to actively participate in compliance. And not just for its own sake, but - above all - for each other and out of mutual respect. So please be considerate and take care of each other - because after your arrival, we are literally all in the same boat. We look forward to finally having an unforgettable vacation at sea.

All entertainment and announcements will be in German and there will be no official translation into English. Our English speaking representative on board will be there to assist you. Today we offer you an excursion to the exceptionally beautiful town of Rethymno which lies in the centre of Crete and surely is one of the highlights of any visit to Greece. It is built between the modern day capital of the island, Heraklion, and the ancient capital of Chania. Rethymnon is the third largest city of the island and is a fascinating combination of old and new: In the old quarter, evidence of Rethymnon’s Venetian and Ottoman past is all around one. On our guided city walk you will be meandering through the narrow maze of streets that seem a world apart from the hustle and bustle of modern-day life. On the other hand, the new town provides residents and visitors alike with all the amenities and facilities one could wish for in the 21st century. Rethymno and its villages offer picture postcard views, which are pervaded by the aroma of Cretan cuisine and the sounds of the Cretan lyre. The great number of visitors who return repeatedly confirm the words of the poet: ”Rethymno is not a place where you go to, but a place where you return. We return to the Mein Schiff 5 for lunch on-board.
Swimming at Chrissi Akti Beach and/or Shopping
After some time for lunch on the ship we enjoy a short ride along the coastline to the Golden Beach (Greek: Hrissi Akti), one of the nicest beaches in all of Crete. Close to the beach (approx. 500 meters walk) is the Jumbo superstore which awaits those of you wishing to do some shopping. The bus shall drop you off right outside before proceeding to the beach. You can then either remain at the shop until the pick up time or walk to the beach to meet the rest of the group. The beach is very well organised with a lovely cafeteria which offers umbrellas, deck chairs and showers. There is also a lifeguard on duty and the shallow waters making it ideal for children. If you prefer to go for a little stroll, just next to the Golden Beach is Agli Apostoli which offers small parks with pine trees and eucalyptuses. After approx. 2 hours free time we will return to the Mein Schiff.

We depart from the port on a panoramic city tour of Bodrum Town. We pass near the Carian Princess Hall, a last reminder of the Hecatomnid dynasty until the city fell to the Macedonian armies of Alexander the Great. We go past Myndos Gate and proceed via the King Mausoleum to the Gumbet windmill landscape where we stop for photos. Our next stop will be at the ancient theatre of Halicarnassus (built in the late second century B.C) where the seating capacity was once 10,000 people. We then continue to St. Peter’s castle, a place in Bodrum that no visitor to this great city should miss. It overlooks the harbour and the international marina and was constructed by the Knights of St. John in the 15th century during the crusades of the middle ages. After a short explanation by the guide you will be given the option to visit the interior of the castle of St. Peter together with your guide (entrance fee not included – to be paid on the spot) or to go shopping at the nearby market. We shall meet again at the same spot and the bus will take us back to our ship for lunch.
Mykonos Island Tour

After disembarking (the ship might be on anchor, in which case we have to use tender boats to get ashore) we have a half day excursion to see a bit more of this beautiful island. It is after all the most famous Greek island and is established as the cosmopolitan centre of Cyclades. Arriving at the harbour of Mykonos we are welcomed by a row of windmills which stand guard looking out to the open sea. These windmills together with the pelicans are the symbols that signify Mykonos Island. Enjoy the drive over the little hills passing brilliant white sugar–cube buildings with splashes of colour from their bright blue shutters and beautiful flowers. We drive past some of the most wonderful beaches including Ornis Beach and Aghios Ioannis Beach, where ‘Shirley Valentine’ was filmed, before turning inland to visit Ano Mera, the most populated village on Mykonos. Ano Mera is not as crowded as other parts of Mykonos during summer and has a long religious history, since the 18th century Monastery of Panagia Tourliani and the ruin of the 12th century Monastery of Paleokastro are to be found here. We shall have a short stop near the quaint central square for you to enjoy the traditional Mykonos atmosphere whilst looking at the little stalls selling fresh products and excellent local cheeses. We return via Kalafatis beach and St. John’s Bay to Mykonos Town. The guide will walk with you to the famous windmills and from there take you through the maze of narrow streets, filled with numerous souvenir shops, little bars and tavernas. Some free time for souvenir shopping before the bus takes us back to our ship.

We depart early from Piraeus harbour to reach Athens after short drive. On the way we see some of the stadiums which were built for the summer Olympics in 2004 and Microlimano, a beautiful little cove in Piraeus famous for its speciality restaurants. Upon arrival in Athens the bus will take us to a view-point from where we can have a look at the Acropolis, one of the wonders of the ancient world and the guide will give you a short introduction into Greek mythology and culture. We continue with a panoramic tour by bus showing you the major sights of Athens such as the Syntagma Square, the law courts, the Greek parliament, Hadrian’s Arch and the Old Olympic Stadium. We shall stop at the Plaka district, a most vividly colourful neighbourhood in the old town of Athens. This area is home to clothing boutiques, souvenir shops, speciality stores and numerous taverns and restaurants. Some free time for souvenir shopping will be allowed. We return for lunch to our ship.
