Easter in North Cyprus KYRENIA | TROODOS MOUNTAINS | NICOSIA | FAMAGUSTA Friday 07th April (Good Friday): Meet the tour leader at 1330hrs at the Malta International Airport for check-in on your direct Emirates Airlines flight to Larnaca departing at 1535hrs. Upon arrival at 1900hrs, your private coach will head towards Kyrenia in Northern Cyprus. Check-in, room allocation and dinner will follow before overnight. Saturday 08th April: Soon after breakfast join your tour leader for another full day excursion to Lefkosa, the old city in North Nicosia. As you wander around northern Cyprus’ old town, unexpected architectural twists whisper of civilisations that took over from one another throughout the centuries - and nowhere is this more apparent than in the Cypriot capital, bisected since 1964 into Nicosia (Lefkosia) and North Nicosia (Lefkoşa). The splendid Selimiye Mosque (entrance included), once the Gothic-style Cathedral of St Sofia, lords over the city with its twin minarets added by the Ottomans. During your free time you can cross the no-man’s land from north to south at the Ledra Street checkpoint, where hectic bazaar stalls give way to fancy boutique windows, Turkish signs morph into Greek script, and street-side chatter switches to different sounds. Return back to your hotel for dinner and overnight. Sunday 09th April (Easter Sunday): Today, after breakfast, join the tour leader for an excursion to Kyrenia and its surroundings. Kyrenia has always been governed by the sea and its natural harbour, once coveted by anyone with dreams of empire and bustling with traders and exporters, is today just as popular with visitors whose only desire is to stroll the seaside strand. Stride up the honeytoned stone ramparts of Kyrenia Castle (entrance included), before heading towards Bellapais monastery (entrance included). Dinner at the hotel and overnight.
Monday 10th April: After breakfast, we offer you a full day excursion to the Troodos Mountains area in the Republic of Cyprus. Home to Mount Olympus, the island’s highest peak, this stunning mountain range provides visitors with a forested flip side to the coastal resorts and bigcity clamour. In addition to the natural beauty of the landscape, the Troodos Mountains are home to a variety of postcard-pretty villages with cobbled streets, terraced slopes and vernacular architecture. The region’s peaks and valleys also hide some of the island’s most important medieval frescoed churches, along with unexpected monasteries, museums and some of the Republic’s finest wineries including the Comandaria Wine and Hot Nuts tasting (entrance & lunch included). Later head back to your hotel for dinner and overnight. Tuesday 11th April: After breakfast join the tour leader for a full day excursion to the beautiful coastal walled city of Famagusta. This historical city got its name from the noble Venetian family of Augusta. Today the beautiful city of Famagusta awaits you. Winding lanes rimmed with terrace rows of houses suddenly give way to ruined Gothic churches, the most famous of which is the former Cathedral of St Nicholas. You will also visit the monastery of Saint Barnabas; the founder of the Cypriot Orthodox Church and the ancient city-kingdom of Salamis. You will view the area of ‘Varosha’ known as ‘ghost town’, famous for its golden sandy beaches, which became popular after the British built a club called ‘King George’. Later head back to your hotel for dinner and overnight Wednesday 12th April: After breakfast and checkout, head towards Larnaca airport for check in on your Emirates flight back to Malta departing at 1220hrs.
