GRADES 9-12

Open to All Kids!

We invite students entering grades 9 – 12 to use your summertime wisely, by taking an academic class that will count toward your graduation requirements or explore a new area of interest simply for the experience! While summer can be an ideal time to complete core required courses, colleges are looking for students who have explored, discovered and pursued new passions. Exploring new areas of interest can set you apart from other students who only boast high GPAs and packed transcripts. To answer this need, this year we’ve added opportunities for you to expand your experiences and horizons. Do something you find interesting or have always wanted to try, and as an added bonus, in doing so it will make you interesting to colleges!

Online Registration: March 27 June 1, www.smes.org/summer Athletic Camps: Ongoing Keep your skills sharp by participating in summer sports camps. Dates and times vary, so check the information carefully. Costs vary.

Algebra II Prep This course is designed for students who completed geometry the previous year and will be enrolled in Algebra 2 (or Algebra 2 Honors) in the fall following the summer course. The purpose of the course is to prepare students for Algebra 2 by reviewing the most crucial foundational topics from Algebra 1. The course will also cover conceptual ideas that are most important for success in Algebra 2. In our experience as a department we find that with the one-year gap between Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 many students struggle remembering concepts and procedures from Algebra 1, which are foundational for success in Algebra 2. This course is designed to focus on these areas and build up the student’s Algebra 1 skills and understanding so that they are adequately prepared for a successful year in Algebra 2. Offered: August 12-16 9:00-12:00 Time: $325 Fee: Instructor: Kate Meloney
