Dallas has the largest urban arts district in the nation. The 68-acre Dallas Arts District includes a trifecta of world-class museums (Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center) and notable performing arts venues (Meyerson Symphony Center, Winspear Opera House, Wyly Theatre). Dallas has a variety of historic points of interest, such as Deep Ellum (known for its eclectic vibe with vintage architecture, a vibrant music scene and colorful murals) and visual and performing arts spaces. Year-round programming includes opera, vocal ensembles, theatre, classical music performances and ballet. The best recording artists from around the country stop in Dallas. There’s a stage and an audience for every musical genre, be it bluegrass or hip hop, gospel or rock. Food & dining

Dallas’ dining scene, featuring thousands of restaurants, is at an exciting intersection of local focus and global awareness. Talented chefs boldly embark on culinary adventures that please and educate the palate. Whether you’re looking for urban eats or suburban gems, or you’re a foodie passionate about the farm-to-table concept, there’s a place and a cuisine for you. Shopping

Dallas is a shopper’s dream. Popular destinations include NorthPark Center (lauded for its displays of 20th-century sculpture and modern art), the hip West Village development, the urban Mockingbird Station (with convenient access to DART light rail) and The Shops at Park Lane, known for its pedestrian-friendly design. Big D is home to five professional sports teams, including the Texas Rangers (2011 American League Champions), the Dallas Mavericks (2011 NBA Champions) and FC Dallas (2010 MLS Western Conference Champions). You can catch the Dallas Mavericks and the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center, which anchors the 72-acre Victory Park, featuring restaurants, shops and a Times Square-esque plaza. And don’t forget America’s Team, the Dallas Cowboys, who play in the world-famous Cowboys Stadium.
