he theme of Snapixel Magazine’s third issue is Beautiful Blur, sponsored by Lensbaby.com.
The photographs we have chosen for this issue cover a variety of subjects and styles, but all in one way or another feature blur. Whether it is created by playing with focus by using aperture, movement by shutter speed, or manipulation by camera or computer, all of these photos depict the world not through a simple sharp image, but through an artistic expression of what our cameras can be capable of. They capture so much more than just one image at one moment in time. We are all about community! All of the photographs included in this issue were submitted by users of Snapixel.com, so if you want to get involved, head to page 44 to find out what our next issue is about and then visit Snapixel.com to contribute. Cheers, The Snapixel Team

DIEGO ALBINO RODRIGUEZ CONTERERAS THE NIGHT COMES TO A CLOSE - LAST CALL I’m not much of a drinker. Still, when last call comes around, a hazy romance hangs in the air. And that’s when the room starts spinning,... and you wonder how you’re getting home that night. [18mm, 1/20 sec. at f/3.5]

TRACTOR WITH FLOWERS
This shot was taken at a 590 acre flower field this spring in California. I waited for the moment when the tractor lined up at the horizon while the flowers formed a vanishing point. I wanted to blur it to give the photo movement. [50mm, 1/3200 sec. at f/1.4]

CLAIRE JEAN “I am french and have spent half of my life in Brazil. I took photography as a means of therapy ten years ago and it quickly became a passion. The spirit of the amateur lives inside me and I am always driven by my enthusiasm for photography.” A native of France residing in Brazil, our featured photographer of the month brings a multicultural world view to a series of topics ranging from portraits to still life to abstractions. Her strongest photos, and self-professed favorites, depict the naked form in black and white. If you visit her website (www. clairejean.daportfolio.com) you can see an entire collections dedicated to this subject, one of the strongest and most unique galleries features models covered in sea life - that’s right, people scantily clad in octopi and conch shells. In this article we place the focus on her photographs that employ blur, but the rest of her photos are definitely worth a look.

“I use my camera as a tool to explore the poetry of life and satisfy my need for creative expression. As a poetry, a picture has to contain a mood, an idea, a story, a feeling. The Lensbaby, one of my favorite lenses, allows me to distort reality in a magical way-giving me more flexibility with the composition. Beauty is everywhere and I am interested in all subjects, although nature is one of my principal inspirations. My goal is to work with bodies integrated with nature in a perfect symbiosis.

JAMES L. McCLUSKEY SOLAR HAZE I took this picture early one morning after work. I passed by this everyday and could not help but notice how beautiful it is to look out over the meadow with the sun illuminating the fog. It is a real shame because some construction company came along and destroyed the scene by building a cement producer right where I took the shot. At least I captured the moment about a year before it was torn up for progress. That’s an irony, is it not? [86mm, 1/1000 sec. at f/8]
