SUPER-TALL SKYSCRAPER INTEGRATIVE BUILDING DESIGN STUDIO | FALL 2018 Chicago, Illinois Instructor : Professor Micheal Kyong-il Kim Teaching Office : SOM - Chicago The proposal was made with the guidance of Professor Kim and the mentorship of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill - Chicago. The design approach was to rearrange the functional stacking of the building and proposing two towers rising above a podium. The aim is to better connect the East Loop, State Street, Michigan Avenue and Wabash Avenue and make it an urban asset and enrich user experience with Chicago river, landscape and buildings in context by providing informal congregation spaces accessible to the public and catalyze investment value of surrounding buildings.

Role Design Conception, Architectural and Construction detail drawings (Hotel), Presentation, Visualization, Proposal for sustainability principles

PRUDENTIAL PLAZA HIGH PERFORMANCE DESIGN STUDIO | SPRING 2019 Chicago, Illinois The project is aimed at revitalizing the site by connecting the Pedway network by addressing the three environmental factors: Thermal, Light, and Airflow to achieve high performance in design. This was accomplished through the use of simulation tools such as Ansys, Diva, Ladybug along with Grasshopper to model bio-mimetic systems that would enhance the site dynamics by introducing context-sensitive formal and functional interventions. A unified structure was thus developed which utilized different elements to cohesively illuminate and activate the site. Small reflectors, inspired out of the water droplet, populated the faรงade of both Prudential buildings, placed adjacent to fenestrations so it is minimally invasive.

KUTUPALONG REFUGEE CAMP URBANISM DESIGN STUDIO | FALL 2019 Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh The Rohingyas are a minority community from Myanmar who are being persecuted by the Myanmar government. They have escaped and have moved into Bangladesh. A formal refugee camp near Cox’s Bazaar (Kutupalong Refugee Camp) has been set up with informal extensions cropping up due to the high influx of refugees. Rohingyas are denied citizenship in Myanmar and are considered “citizens of Myanmar” in Bangladesh which does not allow them to apply for refugee status. The existing camp is very densely populated with informal settlements cropping around the periphery of the formal settlement. The formal settlement is over-crowded with thrice the occupants it was intended for. Additionally, the temporary nature of these structures and improper construction on undulated terrain make it susceptible to heavy damage from the frequent flash floods and landslides.

CONTAINER HOUSING The shipping container unit which is raised on stilts to prevent rainwater damage and flooding, serves as a living and sleeping space. To be more responsive to the climate, there are windows on opposite surfaces with a metal grill and bamboo screens for privacy. Individual modules are arranged to form a hierarchy of open spaces to promote interaction between its residents Existing housing Unit

CULTURAL CENTRE Cultural centre celebrating the amalgamation of cultures with the intent of investment and foreign capital is introduced which would create a new identity for the Rohingyas. The centre has a large contemporary roof constructed of thatch and bamboo with minimal visual obstruction. The intention is for the form could be synonymous to the place, becoming a landmark, thus adding value as a placemaking element.

BIOCLIMATIC SKYSCRAPER UNDERGRADUATE THESIS | SPRING 2016 Chennai, India A co-working office space can aid in developing other occupation sectors in the area. A congregating space for the public is proposed due to its close proximity to both commercial as well as residential areas. As sustainability is the need of the hour, the proposed office building strives to integrate active and passive technology to reduce electricity consumption. Also, the landscape is designed to increase the green cover and balance out the surrounding natural features.

BAMYAN CULTURAL CENTRE UNESCO INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION | ONE BY N | WINTER 2014 Bamiyan, Afghanistan The cultural centre is built upon the ideology of creating a sustainable built environment by incorporating its cultural landscape into the rhythm of nature resulting in efficient and self-sustained spatial systems. The process of evolution of the cultural centre is defined by the geological attributes that define the culturally wealthy Bamiyan. The design approach is derived from the site contour, working its way up to the flat land, with uninterrupted views of the Bamiyan cliff.
