We now have the technology to easily reduce the flow of water in valve showers and taps without compromising the experience. Many showers and taps have a higher flow rate than required and we are simply throwing clean water down the drain.

Water is a precious resource under growing pressure as we build more homes and experience the increasing effects of climate change. It’s also a fact that each person in the UK uses on average 141 litres of water every day, the highest across all European countries. That equates to 9.7 billion litres used daily and needing to be replaced, a huge task for our water authorities.
The importance of saving water is well documented, but what about the energy used to heat it? This also has an impact on cost and increased carbon emissions.
Around 20% of the cost of energy used in the home is for heating water for showers, baths and hot water taps. So, any device that can reduce our water usage, with no compromise on performance, must be considered because, the less water we use, the less energy we use and the more money we save.

It’s estimated that 34% of all water used in the home is through showering and bathing and here is where the fitting of a flow regulator can help. These small devices can be retrofitted, to convert an existing shower quickly and easily, simply by inserting it upstream of the shower outlet, to reduce and regulate the water flow.
A standard European shower will produce around 18 litres of water a minute and yet an equally comfortable shower is possible from a shower head delivering around 12 litres of water. If one considers a 7-minute shower a day that’s 42 litres of water saved by one person per shower. > HOW IT WORKS
A flow regulator device has an integral dynamic control ring (DCR) at its core. As water flows through it and as the pressure fluctuates the DCR deforms into the core of the flow regulator, either reducing or increasing the size of the orifice, to enable a stable and constant flow, independent of pressure. To retro fit a flow regulator is an easy job for a plumber, they simply need to obtain the right advice as to which regulator to fit to retain adequate performance and to purchase a simple tool to fit it.

Why not offer your customers a ‘Water Saving Audit’ whilst in their home or on their business premises? It’s a great service to offer them and may result in additional business for you:
1Offer to do an audit on the water flow for all taps, showers, urinals
2Assess flow rates and propose changes to reduce flow for relevant appliances

It’s always been a little harder to encourage water saving in the kitchen, understandably as we all want to be able to quickly fill our pans or kitchen sinks. However, the new Mini Ecobooster is an aerator for the kitchen tap that can be switched from water-saving eco-mode for general use and boosted to a fuller flow in an instant. It’s a flow device that can be easily retrofitted to most kitchen taps, protrudes slightly from the tap and can be switched easily into boost mode by pulling the sleeve upwards. After closing the tap, it always switches back into the default water saving mode.

> STEP 01
Using a special tool, available from Neoperl, loosen the existing aerator housing at the end of the tap.
> STEP 04
Insert into the existing or new circular chrome housing unit. > STEP 02
Once loose, remove the housing by gently unscrewing with fingers.

Ensure the washer is placed on top to prevent leakage. > STEP 03
Take the new Pressure Compensating Aerator. These are colour coded to help identify the flow rate and stream pattern of the model (aerated or laminar).

Screw the housing back into the tap, tighten with the tool.
