Invitational Auction

GENETICS ARE FOREVER October 6-7, 2017 • Bend, Oregon

Welcome to the Select 2017 Thank you for joining us for the second annual Snow Diamond Select. We were very pleased with last year’s successful launch of a new alpaca auction here in the Pacific Northwest. It drew consignors from across the country, and their feedback was all good.

We also are pleased to welcome AOA Executive Director Bud Synhorst to the Select. Bud tells us he looks forward to spending time with our auction consignees and guests. We will network, discuss, learn and share as we envision the future of our alpaca industry together.

This year, we have farms from Connecticut, New York, Virginia, Ohio, Colorado and Texas represented in the Select, as well as West Coast farms from California, Oregon and Washington. Ten alpaca farms are new consignors in this year’s Select. We appreciate all of you!

While in Bend, plan to visit with us at Snow Diamond, and be sure to enjoy our famous Oregon craft beer or wine. We look forward to seeing you at the auction, as you wave your hand high to land a couple of incredible alpacas waiting for you at the Select. Happy bidding!

Lot 1 Snow Diamond Santabelle Snow Diamond Alpacas AOA#: 35149309 DOB: 7/18/2015 Color: White Gender: Female Status: Confirmed pregnant Sire: Accoyo America Arctic Warrior Dam: Crescent Moon’s Santa Lucia Service Sire: Crescent Moon’s Elite’s Crescendo Histogram: 2017 AFD: 19.6, SD: 3.7, CV: 18.8, %>30: 1.6 Show Awards: 2017 - 1st in Halter, Alpacapalooza 2017 - Color Champion in Halter, Alpacapalooza 2017 - 2nd in Halter, Gold Country Gathering 2016 - 4th in Halter, Alpaca Breeders Invitational

Santabelle is a champion daughter out of Santa Lucia by multiple champion Arctic Warrior, a Road Warrior son. Last year, another AW daughter was a top seller in our auction, and her superior characteristics convinced us to step up Arctic Warrior’s participation in our breeding program. As a result, we are expecting six AW cria late in the season, but you don’t have to wait . . . you can get this gorgeous AW daughter today, and the only thing you’ll have to wait on is for her first cria (by Crescendo) to arrive in May. Crescendo is the full brother of The Elite Maximus and Rico Suave, who have both passed away. Now their younger brother reigns, as his offspring are taking banners in the show ring with their truly elite fiber characteristics: fine, uniform and dense with well-defined advanced architecture.

Sire: Accoyo America Arctic Warrior

Sire: Crystal K-O

Lot 2 CSAF Hallelujah Geneva

CSAF Hallelujah Geneva brings forth a genetic pool packed with color along with all the best qualities from a white program that has a beautiful fine hand and elite brightness. Geneva is a well proportioned, strong Copper Star Alpaca Farm boned young female, with a square frame, correct bite, solid color and excellent coverage. Her fleece is AOA#: 35132899 uniform, exhibiting a high amplitude crimp architecture DOB: 7/12/2016 and excellent hand, solid color throughout, showing Color: White a high degree of brightness, and impressive staple. Gender: Female Geneva has presence along with a sweet temperament, Status: Yearling a trait that we strive for in all our alpacas, highlighting Sire: Crystal K-O yet another excellent example of her pedigree. Sired by Dam: Copperstar’s Gabriella our multi-champion and Judges’ Choice recipient, Crystal K-O. Crystal K-O comes from a line packed with color. Her Dam’s pedigree includes many champions: Beethoven’s Dorian, AML El Duro’s Principio, Miss Clarice and PPPeruvian Kenamori Gold. These genetics bring forth the fawn and elite white to complete this young beauty. Lot 3 TAG Brooklyn The Alpaca Group AOA#: 35109181 DOB: 9/04/2016 Color: Medium Brown Gender: Female Status: Maiden Sire: Irish Meadows Carbon Copy Dam: Peruvian Bridget

They always say to consign the animals that you don’t want to let go. This is the case with TAG Brooklyn. From day one, we knew she was going to be something special. It shouldn’t be any surprise considering who her parents are. Starting with Peruvian Bridget, one of our top producing dams. Every one of her cria has been show quality. Brooklyn’s maternal sister Rainsong was a 4-time banner winner with many first and second places to her name. Irish Meadows Carbon Copy is the sire of Brooklyn, and he definitely added to this mix. Carbon is a true black son of Jacob Black who has 6 championships under his belt. Brooklyn’s fleece is very fine with a buttery soft handle and good density, along with very good brightness. She has excellent conformation and her head style is absolutely beautiful. Brooklyn comes with a free maiden breeding to any TAG herdsire of your choice.

A touchstone of our 24-year breeding program at Xanadu Farm has been our exceptional foundation females. They’re just as influential as the champion machos of our “Herdsire Row.” Emblematic qualified as a foundation female at birth, but we’re proud to bring her to the Snow Diamond Auction. Her sire is Xanadu Aristide, 15X banner winner from 5 generations of our program. Her dam is our Judges’ Choice, SM Elite Legend daughter, Alpine Lace. It’s no accident that Emblematic’s fleece is a synthesis of exceptional fineness, uniformity and highly-evolved architecture. We’re keeping her younger, full brother, Xanadu Nordic Saga. We suggest a breeding to Xanadu Alchemist, 2017 AOA Light Champion, with 6 Championships in a row. He’s a fawn, Snowmass Matrix son/Barnabus grandson with highly organized fleece architecture, brightness and the long fleece staple we’re emphasizing. This should be an inspired match. Bid high to take Emblematic home with you.

Mel B is a stunning dark rose gray female sired by our champion, S&L Peruvian Bandito, and is out of one of our foundation dams, HPA Peruvian Aconcagua, whose pedigree includes Drambuie and Caligula. Mel B has a beautiful soft-handling fleece with a high frequency crimp style and as to her conformation . . . well, just take a look at her picture, she is beautiful. Mel B sells with a breeding to any of our available herdsires.

Lot 6 Pucara Ice King’s Kalea Pucara International AOA#: 30721104 DOB: 08/01/2016 Color: White Gender: Female Status: Maiden Sire: Pucara PureSuri Tikanui’s Ice King Dam: Chachapoya’s WCF Kalea Kalea represents the coming together of generations of planned breeding. The sire Ice King is the fusion of the very best from Pucara’s Kahuna line and those from Latah Creek. Both programs have left an indelible mark on the U.S. suri industry. The dam (in our embryo transfer program) is a distant fusion of the Kahuna line this time mixed with 6P Peruvian Chachapoya who Pucara purchased to add hybrid vigor to their stud lines. The maternal grand dam Pucara Coco Ho is an elite stud female. Her 2014 daughter Abigail is the 2016 Futurity Judges’ Choice winner. Now consider the paternal grand sire is Pucara PureSuri Kahuna’s Tikanui who has progeny dominating the suri ring and you have layer upon layer of quality production. Kalea lives up to the quality that this genetic equation promised. She is an upright girl with the poise and the style of royalty. With that picture perfect “Pucara” head, she is blessed with a fine, uniformly even fleece that exhibits generous luster and that slick hand discerning suri breeders appreciate so much. Kalea is also blessed with a strong frame, correct leg set and a relaxed, easy gait. Ready to breed later in 2017, this thoughtfully conceived girl will bring branded quality genetics to a discerning buyer’s suri herd.

We had high expectations when we put 2X IAO Supreme Champion Snowmass Defiance on Celeste, a beautiful Shiftin Gears daughter, and Cadillac Jack has measured up in every way. Fine, uniform fleece, excellent definition, brightness and density, and Jack’s EPDs say he’ll pass all that good stuff on to his progeny. He’s in the top 1% for AFD, SD, SF and MC, and in fact, he ranks in the #3 position of all 21,089 males in the EPD database for Mean Curve. (For the record, Jack’s half-brother Perfect Storm is in the #1 position and Defiance is #2.) Jack is also in the top 2% for two more traits, %>30 and %M. Take a good look at Cadillac Jack. We think you’ll agree that he is worthy of carrying on his sire and grandsire’s legacy. Histogram: 2017 AFD: 17.2, SD: 3.1, CV: 18.2, %>30: 0.0, MC: 69.7

Cara-Chachita is out of Chachita, an El Niño daughter and reliable producer of seedstock animals, most of them female. Cara’s sire is Crescendo, an Elite son and a full brother to The Elite Maximus and Rico Suave. Crescendo is a compact powerhouse, who is producing champions right and left. As a juvie, Cara was shown just twice, and she took blue in both shows, one of which was the AOA National Show. Now a yearling, Cara has lovely, fully developed fleece and correct conformation, which well positions her to bring home the purple. More importantly, her genetics position her to produce champions for the next generation. To get a jump-start on that, Cara comes with a breeding, and we suggest Defiance. That will give you one of just a very few Defiance/Crescendo crosses so far, but we can promise there will be more.

At her first and only show so far, sporting cria tips, Marcy pulled down a second place behind the Reserve Color Champion. This girl has a pleasing head style and a well conformed body. At breeding age, we suggest a date for Marcy with the famous Snowmass Matrix, who has been known to push black when bred to a brown. Can you imagine a black with fleece like Marcy’s? We can! If you love grey, consider breeding Marcy to our multi champion, silver .38 Special son, Platinum Plus. This young herdsire will deliver on all points, and produce a fantastic cria for you.

That’s true lasting fineness and remarkable uniformity, and Thunder is passing those traits on to his progeny. Those are the kind of genetics you want shaping the next generation on your farm. Peyton’s dam is Petunia, a light fawn with color in her pedigree ranging from beige to fawn, brown and black and including the MRG Danko. Sire: Snowmass Defiance

Last year at this auction, we sold a beautiful female out of Dreamy. This year, when we looked for our best females to represent us in the Select, we again went to Dreamy, and we are offering her gorgeous daughter, Dream Catcher, whose sire is the phenomenal 2X IAO Supreme Champion of the Year, Snowmass Defiance. This girl just knocks us out! Dream Catcher has fine, extremely dense, very bright white fleece with well defined bumpy crimp that is further organized into exquisite tiny bundles. With just two months of regrowth as of this writing, she is already packin’ on the fleece. She has correct conformation, a beautiful head, and presence. We liked Dream Catcher so much that we rebred Dreamy to Defiance, and in May we were rewarded with yet another beautiful female, who is looking a whole lot like her older sister. Another testament to our regard for Dreamy’s offspring is that we have Dreamy in our embryo transfer program, and if all goes well, we will have two Dreamy offspring next spring. We can only dream that they will be as good as Dream Catcher. Check her out!

ROCKSTAR’s Steely Dan is the stylish and confident two year old son of two-time Futurity Herdsire of the Year, Neversummer’s US Steel. Steely is very fine and inherited his sire’s trademark silky handle. In heavy competition he has placed very well in extremely tough classes. Judges have praised Steely for his overall level of uniformity, brightness, soft handle, and clean blanket which has an extremely low presence of guard hair. We expect Steely will retain these traits well into adulthood, as evidenced by his histogram results thus far. Both his sire and his dam have strong grey pedigrees behind them with retained fineness as they’ve aged. Add to this Steely’s stellar conformational traits exhibititing very nice substance of bone, a compact frame, level topline, and perfect bite. Topping it all off is Steely’s sweet disposition! He is super easy-going like his sire US Steel, is easily handled, and is a true pleasure to work with. We have found the magic formula for Snowbaby’s breeding success, and his name is Arctic Warrior. This is a pairing that produces incredibly fine fleece (see Snowflake’s fiber stats), uniformity, impossible softness and dazzling brightness. Snowflake is the second Snowbaby/AW collaboration, and we went back for a three-peat, which is due in October. And while it won’t show up in any breed standard, you should know that this little girl is the lover on the farm, charming us and our visitors on a regular basis. When we first saw Snowbaby (the mom), we picked her out of the herd and said, “Who is that?” Now, six years later, we have had two knowledgeable farm visitors who have spotted Snowflake and said, “Who is that? She’s good; she’s very good.” Don’t let this one get away.
