Ludwig speaking:

It gives me sincere pleasure to brinq a personal message to the students of BethanyPeniel College. We have been associated together during the college year 1942-1943a year that has seen rapid and catastrophic changes take place throughout the world. It may seem to some that we have been closely sheltered from what has been taking place, and yet all of us have been affected by qreat happenings. We have reacted accordingly and by O'.Jr own decisions have become a part of the new world now in process. Whether our individual contribution is for good or iII depends on the choices we have made. The record stands! It has been engraved by our own hands. Now, we face both todav and tomorrow! That gives us dual responsibility. What may seem expedient for today, when it is judged in the light of tomorrow, may be wholly inadequate. For that reason, I ask each one of you to think carefully, counsel freely and pray earnestly before you make decisions which may mean a complete change in the trend of your life. I realize that we are living dangerously . It has always been so when the world is passing through a crisis. But history records that such events have been the birth-throes of a better dav. I call your attention, also. to the necessity of the Christian perspective in times like these. Christianity was born in the midst of a crisis. The true followers of Christ have scarcelv known anything else. But they do not base their faith on thinqs which can be shaken. They receive their strenqth from One who outrides the crisis and is thus able to give poise and direction no matter what the outward environment may be. It is this commitment of one's self to Christ which enables the Christian to use Today's uncertainty as a basis for Tomorrow's hope. The World Tomorrow will need trained men and women in greater numbers than we have vet anticipated. The world will need men and women who have been challenoed to effective service by the pronouncement of the victorious Galilean who said, "Take up thy cross and follow me ." Comrades of 1943! This is your day-and what a day of opportunity it is. What a challenge it is to live in this generation. You have the chance of makinq history-today . . . . and tomorrow! \Nhat kind of historv will you write::> And as you fi II Iife's scroll with the deeds of each succeeding day , do not forget that the world will ultimately be won, not by a crown but by a Cross!" Faithfully vours, S. T. LUDWIG.

To a lady who inflates our ego, who sees "possibilities" in the most unpromising of us, who shows us ways to draw nearer to our Iiving Christ, who mo kes th e c lass room o voco l d issec ti o n lobo ro tory fo r th e bes t o nd worst of us. Head of the "Personal itv Department," Mrs. Gertrude T avlor of Bethany-Peniel College, holds the keys to the true ideals of livina, and she keeps the door unlocked.

ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION

CWait

a

minute, /'liend. Sflead this. A cappella

Quiet! No one whispers while the A Cappello Choir skyrockets its throbbing melody into the atmosphere. What will you hove, a choral? a spiritual:> Just nome it. One more feather in Professor Crill's bonnet for his achievements with this group. His sturdy baton arm and catching grin hove earned for him a place of honor in our hearts. Through him the choir has become a tradition .

Trio The Dawson, Boles, Beaver women's trio has already projected itself into the spotlight. We predict a sparkling future for these girls.

Quartets Men's voices in groups of four ore always popular on and off the campus. The Hurn, Harris, Cunningham, Beaver foursome is above par and clear of the rough . Perhaps they were late in getting started, but the weeds aren't growing under their feet now. Music lovers all over the district ore calling for Wolden, Horger, Harvey, and Littrell. How those boys con warble !

Orchestra Professor Crill again, with baton in hand, poses for the downbeat. Yes-orchestra . Among them ore such music masters as Hurn, Tudor, and Hoog. Thanks a million, Orchestra, for the rhythmic lift.

Piano Ensemble Twenty-eight hands con render on effective interpretation of Rachmaninoff's "P relude in C Sharp Minor." For proof we turn to the fourteen pionoeers who ploy with both hands on the ivories and one eye on Mrs. Crill. They do make beautiful music together.

Recitals "Bong" is what the recitalists of this year hove gone over with a. Six recital programs hove produced six brilliant performances. Perhaps this phrase sounds a bit trite, but what do you soy when people ore good:> Songs by Lora Show, adventures in expression with Cora Lee German and Mary Ruth Hale, piano interpretations by Lois Elaine Stone, Wando Baldwin, and Ruth Dardenquite on array of talent. (And we realize that this is on incomplete sentence . We used it for effect. ) The recitalists do deserve a round of hearty applause.

Speech Do you stutter::> Does your tongue beat out a weird rhythm on your wisdom tooth when you talk? Are you a knock-kneed chapel speaker::> Do your lips bump into words on their way out the door:> Toke speech! Mrs. Taylor has just what you need, whether it's on exercise or a dull razor . Gas rationing kept the debaters in port this season, but home competition was hot. The oratory and Bible reading contest finals were run off in chapel with all alacrity and celerity. These verbal battles will pave the way for imitation in the future. The choral reading group has appeared upon several occasions, each time with new snap and cackle. They're tops in scripture reading. The most recent of the recent ore the round table discussions which have caught fire among the intellectuals. Even the proletar iat have fallen victim to the plague. So much for Speech. And so much for Fine Arts.

Religious Life Aycock Lectures Two lecture series, two teachers in church affairs, intellectual awakenings on the campus, and all credit due to Jarrette and Dell Aycock. With the fall series came General Superintendent H. V . Miller. Need we say his messages were packed with inspirational wallop:> No, we needn't. Pastor of First Church of the Nazarene, Long Beach, California, Dr. H. B. Wall in delivered the glad tidings during the spring series. Our thanks to you both!

Revivals Among the top flight activities of importance in college life are the church revivals. The past year has produced four. The evangelists in order of meetings are : C. A Gibson, Bona Fleming , J . W. Montgomery, Jarrette and Dell Aycock. Four revivals plus five evangelists equals an abundance of spiritual campus sp irit nine times over. We t ip our caps to Pastor C. B. Strang.

Missionary Band Newest thing on the campus is the Missionary Band. If there is such a thing as an organization with a future, here it is . At the present time they are busily engaged in a major project, that of ra :sing money for a church in the Cape Verde Islands. They're doing nicely, too.

Gospel Team Here we have a group of Christians who touch God. Their present emphasis lies upon campus evangelism. With their deep note of spirituality they lend depth to a school that welcomes depth . The Gospel acts as a guyrope on our ship.

Prayer and Fasting Room 103 , Science Bldg., is the Friday noon meeting place of the Prayer and Fasting Band. Vigorous, enthusiastic, and thoroughly sincere, the members of the organization are proving the scriptural principle that "to give up is but to receive." No yardstick can measure the good that they do ; no measuring rod, the service.

BEFORE the curtain falls on this reproduction of the many associates, pleasant scenes, and happy experiences of nineteen fortythree we want to introduce to you- students and friends of BethanyPeniel College -

those people who have lessened our financial '

worries in publishing this Arrow. These are our real friends who are standing by us while we are making necessary adjustments to cope with the changing conditions of our war world of today. These are people who are interested in Christian education. Will you be as interested as they and patronize their businesses? "Every Stick a Dry One"

It has been a pleasure to have had the privilege of again producing the engravings for the 1943 Arrow. Congratulations on another fine year and best wishes to the ongoing Senior Class.

ENGRAVING COMPANY 315 NORTH BROADWAY • PHONE 7·7531 OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA

You hold in your hands a copy of the 1943 Arrow only because a certain fellow had two cameras, a darkroom, a brain, a hundred miles of ambition-and knew how to use them . When one man wrestles with the job of three men; that of photographer, photo-finisher, and chem stude; there is bound to be a strain on someone's eyelid . And there was . You don ' t have to guess about the superterrific amount of work Wilson Orr has done. Take another glance back through the pages and realize that the shot angle planning and darkroom follow up was all done by one fellow . Without him there could have been no annual . Then nights of work without seeing a bed and days of work in his sleep. But he kept the material com ing . It took push in the p inches and drive when the driving was hard , but he kept it coming. We are gratef ul . To you Wilson , "kam " f iend, chem student, and friend- thanks. Yes Thanks! Editor
