It has been held high by the army of fearless torch-bearers, and

its light has made their pathway beautiful and clear.

The rays of the

torch gleam on their banner and its motto, the Golden Rule; and the world bows in respect. The darkness of fear, the shadows of uncerta;nty, and the pale glimmer of worn-out hopes- all become . brightness and beauty when touched by the flame of that burning brand . Fanned by the breezes of time, its radiance ever increases -

until, when handed by

the faithful bearers to the returning Christ, it will be a great shaft of light reaching from earth to heaven, and to eternity.

Through actual participation in religious services, both on and off the campus, our ministerial students are learning to take their place in God's harvest field.

God said-"1 have made man in my own image; therefore he must know the pure, the true, and the beautiful." So He took a bit of the star melodies, snatches of the angels' songs, the murmurs of the wind 'round the corners of heaven, and the songs of the birds who fly through His sky, and blended them together to send to man as-Music . He gathered the roaring of the thunder and the ocean, the voice of the ages, together with the stillest of all whispers-that which speaks to the human heart without words-and sent them to us as-Speech. He plucked the tints of nature, the hues of the sunset and of the rainbow, the brightness of the noonday sun, and the shadows of the crisp clear moonlight, and sent them to man that he might enjoy-Art. And man worships God through the beauty of these manifestations of his handiwork-music, and speech, and art. And man calls them fine arts, because he knows they come from God.

The romantically beautiful story of the love of Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett brought to Iive again on the stage of our college--that was the junior play. Top-notch acting, authentic costumes, and a bang-up ticket sales contest all contributed to its success.

The members of the class in dramatics learn self-expression through acting . Sometimes their work is serious, sometimes amusing- but always it lends ease and poise.

:Jfte oflttfe S~ep~erJ o/ _}~ngdom Come Full of heart-throbs and tender sentiment was the story of Chad, the "Little Shepherd of l<ingdom Come" as presented by the senior class. Presented in a modern setting by a superb cost, the ploy will long be remembered.

.of'lceum Variety is added to college life in the form of a dramatic sketch from the life of Beethoven "Moonlight Sonata"; next a lecture by "Slim Williams" describing his thrilling adventures in Alaska . It was then we decided to save our pennies and buy a motorcycle. The last lyceum number was in March when the Ritz Trumpeteers visited us .

An unusual opportunity and beautiful muhic -. -that characterized the concert presented by the Oklahoma State Symphony Orchestra. The audience fell under the spell of the music, as the orchestra played and Victor Alessandro directed; and reluctantly left long after the lost lingering note of music hod died away.

::Dorm ofl/e It brings back memories-of jam sessions with peanut-butter crackers spread thick with homespun philosophy; of borrowed toothpaste and perfumed hair oil, and missing alarm clocks and prized photographs; of the give and take of stacked rooms and stealthy hide-outs from the dorm mother in those tiny, one-exit clothes closets. We remember old associations and would Iike to say in the students' own vernacular, "Ain't we coot? Us is broommates, 'cause we sweep together-dust we too." And lest we forget, memories of evenings spent around that "neverwinding-down" piano in the parlor; of those times in the cosy snack kitchen foreseeing what the future held for us guys when the "right one" was doing our cooking.

From the early morning prayer meetings, through the last few m inutes of studying, manicuring or pinning up hair by the hall light at 11 : 15, each day has been one of sheer happiness.

It seemed at the beginning of the season that the Sophomores would toke the tourney, but their luck was reversed the second semester . The Frosh succeeded in securing some new players that furnished the needed power to overtake and pass the Sophomores . The Frosh won the tournament by one game . Congratulations to a hard-working team!

Bethany-Peniel is growing .

New buildings, new departments, new

equipment-al l are just waiting to materialize as soon as the war is over. There will be a new dormitory here, a new Iibrary there, a new class room building on this corner of the campus, and a new student union building on that. And everywhere, there will be students-new students and old students, hundreds of students. There will be more build ings in which to teach history and philosophy and English . There will be more laboratories and equipment with which to make clear the principles of mathematics and science. There will be a larger faculty, and more courses. And there will be more young people receiving an education in a Christian college . But until that tomorrow becomes today, we must content ourselves with blue-prints and floor -plans-and dreams.

The ages' breezes bear the sound Of echoed voices ringing out, In myriad chants of ecstasy, The praise of faith that checks the dou bt. Long, long ago began this choir, When first one held Christ's banner h igh; Rehearsed by volunteers since then, This tale of love to us comes n igh . A tested shield engulfs this trust, Displaying martyred hero's gleam ; There, too, is marked a taint of red, And hovers near a visioned dream. For hopes and efforts spent Iike these, Have built a m illion causes true; Beh ind the veil of school life now Is well-aimed purpose carried through . The principles of those before, Ingrained in solid brick and stone, Reveal the seed that made the plant, Enshrine the prayerful smile or groan . Bright gems that fall from teaching lips, The ever-linking human chain, And off-shoots radiating light, Reflect intense desire and gain.
