Perth Metro North Awards Night
Special Olympics Perth Metro North held the Inaugural Annual st Awards Dinner on Saturday 21 July at the Kingsway Football Club. The room was decorated in the region colours and over 200 people filled the room creating a fantastic vibe and great environment to recognise athletes who have contributed and excelled in their sport over the past year. Ms Andrea Mitchell (MLA Kingsley and SOWA State Board Member) and Mr Tony O’Gorman (MLA Joondalup) were invited guests and attended to help congratulate the athletes on their achievements. Ms Tracy Roberts (Mayor, City of Wanneroo) also called in to wish our athletes all the best.

A fantastic evening was had by all and the evening was rounded off with the athletes provided the opportunity to dance the night away.

Junior National Games Team
In October 2012, SOWA farewell our first ever team to compete at the Trans-Tasman Tournament in Cairns, Qld. Our team of 25 athletes and 10 officials will be competing in Athletics, Basketball and Tenpin Bowling.
In December 2012, SOWA will proudly farewell the largest contingent who will depart our shores to compete at the Special Olympics Junior National Games in Newcastle, NSW. The team of 21 athletes and 9 officials will compete in Aquatics; Athletics and Basketball.

Earlier this year Special Olympics Australia announced that Newcastle, Australia had won the bid to host the Inaugural Asia Pacific Games in December 2013. Australia will be sending a team with athletes competing in the following sports: Athletics, Aquatics, Basketball, Football and Tenpin Bowling.
Join Special Olympics Western Australia at the 3rd TMA Sports Lunch on the 10th August, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Master of Ceremony, Peter Rowsthorn will walk the guest speaker Adam Gilchrist through an afternoon of fun and friendship.
Athletes from across Australia will be selected from State games that have been identified as qualifying events. In Western Australia they are:

The Golf Program’s 3rd term lessons will commence on: Monday: 2 3rd July 2012 at 4.00pm (7 weeks only) MARANGAROO GOLF COURSE, Aylesford Drive, MARANGAROO The cost for each session will be $10.00. The program will run for 7 weeks. Special Olympics Western Australia in conjunction with IGA Perth Royal Show is launching the inaugural “Muscle versus Machine 2012” on Saturday 6 October at the main arena of the showgrounds. The event will feature teams from service groups of WA racing machinery equipment and vying for the coveted “Muscle versus Machine 2012” trophy. The event with include a celebrity race led by team captain and event ambassador, Daniel Macri, title winner of WA Strongman competition. The event will create public awareness of SOWA and raise much needed funds. There is opportunity for SOWA athletes to participate within the event.
