What is Special Olympics?
Special Olympics Western Australia Transforming Lives of People with Intellectual Disability
Special Olympics transforms the lives of children and adults with an intellectual disability through year round sports training and competition. Through our grassroots sports programs, athletes get fit, have fun, make friends and feel proud. Athletes of all abilities are catered for and everyone from eight years-old and over can enter competitions where every athlete receives recognition.
If you would like to join Special Olympics WA as an athlete or volunteer, or you want more information please contact: Special Olympics Western Australia is part of a global movement founded by Mrs Eunice Kennedy Shriver. Through her vision what started as a backyard camp for people with an intellectual disability is now the world’s largest grassroots sports program. Today more than 3.1 million athletes from around the world enjoy regular training and a competition ladder that offers opportunities from local through to State, National and International level. Special Olympics Western Australia is based in Perth where enthusiastic volunteers provide regular sports training in: athletics, aquatics (swimming), basketball, golf, gymnastics, softball and tenpin bowling. With more volunteers we hope to expand the programs throughout Western Australia.
