Saint Lucia

One of the Windward Islands of the WestIndies’ Lesser Antilles, Saint Lucia, is nestledhalfway down the Eastern Caribbean archi-pelago. Saint Lucia is known for its natural beauty and diverse attractions, including the signature Piton Mountains (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), a tropical rainforest, the highly-Instagrammed mud baths at Soufrie SulphurSprings Park and the Caribbean’s only one of the world’s few drive-in volcano.

The island is continually recognized as one of the leading wedding and honeymoon destinations worldwide. The island has won the title of the World’s Leading Honeymoon Destination an impressive 14 times and was recently recognised as the Caribbean’s Leading Adventure Tourism Destination by the World Travel Awards.

Memories of Carnival Saint Lucia 2022...

After two years of enduring long days of nothingness and wondering if our feet will ever hit the hard coal at the sound of pan, Calypso and soca music, two years where we counted the days with you when we had to painstakingly wait for Saint Lucia Carnival to begin; after holding our breath for not one or two, but 1086 whole days; it happened.

And here we are again, recounting the days and reliving the times we spent at Carnival, from one reveller’s eyes to the other. Last year, we cheered on the comeback of the carnival when Tourism Minister Hon Dr Ernest Hilaire took to the press in March to announce the green light had been given for Saint Lucia Carnival 2022. And, like kids in our favourite toy store, we saw the return of some of our favourite shows and competitions including the National Carnival Queen Competition, the National Calypso Monarch Competition, and the Groovy and Soca Monarch Competitions.

Clearly our cups were meant to brim over as more events, including Colour Me Red, hosted by pre-eminent carnival band Red Unlimited, and U4RIA or ‘U10’ from Saint Lucian soca artist Teddyson John and TJP (the Teddyson John Project) and Famalay, were also presented to us.

The announcement of carnivals meant one thing and one thing only for mas bands, who dusted off their costumes and prepped to return full steam. And boy, did they give us a run for our money - and energy, I might add. The carnival gave us its best yet, and we look forward to going down the road, seeing familiar and unknown faces and making new memories, all together again in 2023. Saint Lucia Carnival took place on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 July, 2022.

Recently launched by the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA), Collection de Pépites is a programme that showcases 400-plus smaller properties, all accredited by the SLTA.

Amongst the B&Bs, boutiques, inns and luxury villas in the Collection de Pépites you’re sure to find some gems. The name originates in the island’s French heritage and means a collection of small pieces or nuggets of gold.

Carnival 2022 Results

Saint Lucia Carnival 2022 has come and gone; we are still left reminiscing about the racy and ritzy days and nights we basked in while celebrating carnival in full Caribbean splendour.

For 2022 Saint Lucia Carnival organisers decided to hold all of the national carnbival events a week before the commercial parties. This worked well as it gave the national events a free run and for more people to get involved without splitting the crowd.

Here are the results of the various competitions that were held.
