This year will see some different events for Antigua Carnival, both before and during the main festival days. There will be a celebration honouring Sir McLean ‘King Short Shirt’ Emanuel on 2 July; a ‘Band Meet Band’ showdown on 22 July; T-shirt mas on 23 July; Drue’s Day on 26 July; a series of other activities to culminate in Las Lap on Tuesday 2 August.

Despite the usual anticipatory excitement for Carnival, one of the more notable bands, Myst, has pulled out of Monday and Tuesday mas for this year and, due to financial and time constraints, will only be participating in T-Shirt mas. Other bands, including Insane Troupe and Dumz Tree, will be in attendance on all the parading days.

Antigua Carnival is scheduled to take place from Wednesday 27 July to Tuesday 2 August 2022.

Montserrat Carnival is getting ready to mark a ‘significant birthday’. The event began in 1962 as a celebration of Caribbean heritage and creativity, featuring pageants, music shows, folklore dancing, private fetes and parades.

The organisers of Montserrat Carnival 2022 are marking this huge milestone with a month-long round of festivities. The 60th-anniversary schedule starts with Calypso Eliminations and of course culminates in a Street Parade which will bring the carnival to a close.

Montserrat Carnival will run from Saturday 3 December 2022 to Sunday 1 January 2023.

‘MEET THE BUYER’ BOOSTS JAMAICAN PRODUCTS IN BRITAIN

On Thursday 7 April, the Jamaican High Commission and Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) hosted a new initiative in London called Meet the Buyer. The aim is to connect Jamaican businesses with UK retailers and the media.

The event brought together some outstanding entrepreneurs and Michelin-trained Chef Aleandro, founder of Food Fusion. He served the guests an array of delicious canapés prepared from products owned by the vendors in the room.

The organisers hope that Meet the Buyer will help Jamaican brands penetrate the UK market more effectively by allowing Jamaican business owners to network with their UK counterparts and retailers.
