Vaughan Azzurri continued their undefeated Men’s Premier Division campaign in week 15 with eight goals against North Mississauga. Kosi Nwafornso and Massimo Ferrin both scored hat-tricks with Omar Marzouk and Orlendis Benitez Hernandez also finding the net. ProStars also won big to move into third place in the standings, Christopher Campoli bagging a brace in a 4-0 victory over Scrosoppi. Michael Solomon was on target four times for St Catharines Roma Wolves against Master’s FA, helping his side win 4-1.

Alliance United put three past Burlington to keep the pressure on the top six, aiming to mount their own playoff hunt following the achievements of the women’s team.

Nothing could separate Simcoe County Rovers and North Toronto Nitros in a top-six battle on Saturday. With the three points all but secure after Justin Santos’s second-half goal, Jarred Phillips scored a dramatic equaliser in the fourth minute of injury time, keeping the two sides on level points in the table. The playoff race took a spin in week 16 with Simcoe County Rovers dropping out of the playoffs and Guelph United rising above the dotted line.

Simcoe’s Kahlil John scored what they thought would the winner against Woodbridge Strikers on Sunday, but the home team had other ideas and Luca Pinto netted an equaliser in the 88th minute to ensure the spoils were shared. Guelph needed four goals to overcome FC London on Saturday. Despite the home team scoring three goals – their highest in tally in a single game this season – Jared Agyemang’s brace for Guelph combined with strikes from Owen Mckee and Anthony Ostrun secured maximum points. Vaughan Azzurri have clinched their playoff spot and are all but confirmed as the Men’s Premier Division leaders for when we head into the postseason. They defeated Electric City 1-0 at the weekend with a solitary goal through Massimo Ferrin. Both Blue Devils and North Toronto Nitros pushed on in the playoff hunt in formidable style. The former beat Master’s FA 71 with Taha Ilyass netting four times, and Akeim Villous bagged a brace in the Nitros 5-2 win against North Mississauga. Sigma also scored seven against Unionville Milliken with Soji Olatoye scoring twice, but their four wins on the bounce are unfortunately too little too late they are now out of reach of the playoffs. ProStars continued their impressive winning streak with Hamilton United being their latest victims, and Kenny Lioutas’ two goals helped Alliance United edge past BVB IA Waterloo to maintain their own playoff bid. Teams not in the postseason hunt are still going head-to-head in entertaining encounters. Pickering’s Nigel Buckley scored his second of the game in the 87th minute to deny Burlington of three points and level the score at 3-3. Pickering also had a topsy-turvy game against Master’s FA last Thursday, winning 4-3. Darby defeated Scrosoppi 4-0 with four different scorers and now sit 15th in the table, and there was a goalless tie between Windsor TFC and St Catharines Roma Wolves.

ProStars had not lost since June 14, winning nine games on the bounce to position themselves firmly in the playoff race in the Men’s Premier Division, and showed no signs of letting go of their fine form.

That was until they travelled to St Catharines Roma Wolves in week 17. The hosts led 2-1 at the hour mark before Alexander Zis drew ProStars level 20 minutes later, but Conrad Czarnecki scored a winner for the Roma Wolves with just a minute of regulation time left on the clock. The loss saw ProStars drop out of the top six, one point behind Simcoe County Rovers who defeated Pickering 2-0 to climb back into the playoff spots. Had Guelph United defeated Darby on Friday, they would have clinched a playoff spot themselves. But a resolute 2-0 victory from the visiting side means Guelph have it all to do in the final weekend.

Alliance United took a step closer to the postseason with a 1-0 win against North Mississauga, and so too did North Toronto Nitros who beat Burlington 2-0. Second-placed Blue Devils guaranteed an extension to their season with a 4-0 victory against Unionville Milliken, which included a hat-trick from Kyle Porter. They sit on 44 points and where they finish in the top six could change in the final gameweek. Vaughan Azzurri put down another performance that showed why they are seven points ahead at the top of the table and favourites for silverware. They didn’t hold back against BVB IA Waterloo, winning 7-2 with Kosi Nwafornso and Massimo Ferrin both scoring three times. Mid-table teams Woodbridge Strikers and Hamilton United both won 2-1 at the weekend, against Sigma and Master’s FA respectively.

Bottom side FC London picked up an impressive point against mid-table favourites Electric City as these two teams tied with one goal apiece. Windsor TFC defeated Scrosoppi 1-0. North Toronto Nitros lost to Darby on Friday night of the final week 18 after LeRohne Young scored a later winner. The Nitros had already secured their playoff spot and Darby ensured they finished 2022 with three wins on the bounce.

That result meant Alliance United snuck into third spot by beating FC London 4-1 – Johnson Amoo scoring twice. Simcoe County Rovers finished fifth after winning late against Hamilton United through Ethan Beckford netting his second of the day. ProStars then needed to win on Sunday to secure their postseason place, and they did it in the most dramatic fashion. After ProStars went 4-1 up with a Faris Ammari notching two goals and two assists, Burlington netted in the 89th and 90th minutes to pile the pressure on the visitors. But ProStars held on through a nervy five minutes of added time to finish in the top six, meaning Guelph United narrowly missed out on the postseason. Blue Devils’ win against Sigma means they will receive a bye to the playoff semifinals along with Vaughan Azzurri, who finished their 2022 regular season unbeaten after they defeated Woodbridge Strikers 5-2 on Sunday. The Azzurri look like the favourites heading into the upcoming knockouts. Scrosoppi won big on their final game of the season, defeating North Mississauga 7-1 and scoring all seven goals in 35 secondhalf minutes with Ijah Halley netted a double. Master’s FA bagged their third win of the campaign on Saturday by defeating Unionville Milliken 4-0 with four different scorers. Pickering also finished the regular season in winning form as they sealed three points against Windsor TFC. Electric City and St Catharines Roma Wolves played out a goalless tie.

Action from the North Toronto Nitros v Simcoe County Rovers play off quarter final which Rovers won 2-0 with both goals coming in the final 10 minutes.

PLAY OFF FINAL

August 6 NDC Ontario 3 v 1 Alliance United It's tough to top NDC Ontario's energy. Throughout the season, they played at 100 percent for the full 90 minutes, and always seemed to have a bit of energy left in the tank after the final whistle for some laps around the pitch. At their peak they can run away with wins. And with the help of Nyah Rose's first-half brace, NDC ran away with the championship title after a 3-1 victory over Alliance United on Saturday evening at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan. World Cup in Costa Rica, NDC Ontario battled hard and shut down an Alliance squad full of firepower, ending their seven-game winning streak on the last leg of the journey to lift the trophy. NDC Ontario opened the scoring on the first shot of the game in the seventh minute. Kayla Briggs intercepted a long pass at the halfway line, heading it forward and controlling it all the way to the box while Alliance were caught flat footed. After a quick spin to protect the ball from the defender, Briggs pulled a pass back toward the top of the six-yard box, and Rose finished the cutback into the low far corner to open the scoring.

Despite missing players who are away representing Canada at the CONCACAF U-15 Championship in Florida and the FIFA U-20 Women’s The lead didn't for long as Alliance United earned a corner kick less than a minute later. Kristin Parkes was left unmarked on the set piece, and the forward headed the ball toward goal to quickly even up the game. NDC Ontario would get the eventual winner in the 15th minute when Renee Watson sent a ball down the left wing for Rosa Maalouf to chase. After shrugging off Valentina Greco on the defensive line, Maalouf had ample space and time to fire in a cross, giving Rose the simple tapin to regain the lead for her team.

Alliance were denied any further shot attempts for the rest of the first half, and their goalkeeper, Gurleen Toor, stepped up to save another Rose shot from point-blank range, preventing a hat trick in the process and keeping her team's deficit to just one goal going into the half time interval. Coming out of the break, Alliance made an interesting switch, shifting Laura Gosse from forward into the middle of their defence. The move paid off early in the period as she slid to make a last-ditch tackle to stop a Briggs chance. Some quick passes and combination play also freed goal-scoring machine Chelsea Cheung down the right, but the team were missing that final bit of flourish to equalize again. Momentum was on Alliance's side, but Rosa Maalouf abruptly shifted it back to NDC Ontario in the 64th minute when she scored a screamer from the left wing, perfectly into the top corner and out of Toor's reach. Gosse switched back to forward as Alliance desperately tried to get back into the game, but the advantage stayed permanently on NDC Ontario's side as they wound down the clock to lift the trophy in their inaugural season.

On July 9th, Alliance United handed NDC Ontario their only loss of the regular-season campaign, with a 3-1 victory at Varsity Stadium. Now, NDC Ontario have exacted revenge with the same scoreline to be crowned League1 Ontario champions for 2022.
