Holy Cross are again Breen’s Jubilee Trophy champions. The team defeated the Feildians All-Star Rebar squad 1-0 in the final of the 2022 Breen’s Jubilee Trophy Championship in a game held at King George V Park in St. John’s on Sunday, Aug. 28. It was their seventh straight Jubilee Trophy title. It was a matchup between the league’s top two teams, as Holy Cross finished in first place with 43 points (14-0-1) and the Feildians in second with 32 points (10-3-2). Jane Pope, the winner of the Raeleen Baggs award as the regular season MVP, had the lone goal in the game. She scored 10 minutes into the game and that was enough to secure the victory for Holy Cross. Pope was also presented with the Sherry Morrissey Award as the tournament’s MVP, while the Ann Woodford Award for the Most Effective and Sportsperson-like player was awarded to Stacey Hanlon of Feildians.

The championship win caps an impressive season for Holy Cross. The team was perfect through the regular season (14-0-1) and the championship tournament (2-0). On their way to the final, Holy Cross defeated the Calvin Randell C.B.S. Strikers FC 11-0 in their semifinal matchup. Their coach, Jake Stanford, was named coach of the year, while Keisha Younge was named the league's top defender. Holy Cross’s Teri Murphy was awarded the Joy Burt Award as the regular season’s most spirited player. The Feildians’ Zoe Rowe had 18 goals in 15 games for her club and was awarded the Sandy Faulkner Award for scoring the most regular-season goals. The Feildians’ Jillian Hutchings was the rookie of the year. Holy Cross will head to Vaughan, Ontario, where they will represent the province at the Toyota National Championships being held October 5-10.
