How to Make It In Affiliate Marketing Written by: Kurtis Rose - http://www.onlineinternetbusinessadvice.com/ Not every affiliate marketer sees the same results from their business. Some make a fortune, some make a modest income and others fail entirely. Obviously, there’s a reason why the fortunes of affiliates vary so wildly. The reason is this: the affiliates who end up making it big in affiliate marketing, the “super” affiliates if you will do one very important thing differently. They work to build and maintain relationships with the people on their mailing lists. Your list is everything – even the smallest of lists can be the key to producing revenue consistently; as long as you follow these seven rules: 1) Get people to opt in to your list first Before you send visitors off to your affiliate link, seize this opportunity to get them to your site. Offer them an incentive to sign up to your email list. Mini-courses and e-books are good choices here. When someone signs up to your list, they are no longer just a potential sale for your affiliate, but an asset you have earned. If you let them proceed directly to the affiliate link and they don’t end up making a purchase, that’s it – you’ve lost them and you’ll probably never see them again! If they sign up for your list, on the other hand, you can continue to follow up and make more sales in the future. You can also direct them to the affiliate link after they sign up for your list, getting them to where they wanted to go and adding another name to your list. 2) Set yourself apart from other affiliates Don’t send out those canned advertisements the affiliate program offers

you – every other affiliate is sending those out already. Write your own messages; people don’t like getting those form letter style emails once, let alone from dozens of different affiliates! Even when these don’t turn people off to the extent that they start using their spam filters to block you and every other affiliate trying to make a pitch, these cookie-cutter messages aren’t an effective sales tool anymore. Write it yourself and give people something different than what other affiliates have been flooding their inboxes with. So how can you differentiate yourself from your competition? Glad you asked – that brings us to rule #3. 3. Speak from experience Results. That’s what you need to communicate. Give people results and they’ll listen. Suppose you’re trying to lose weight; would you be more likely to listen to someone who’s also trying to lose weight or someone who’s already managed to lose those excess pounds? Yes, me too. That’s why you should set your email messages and ads apart by speaking from experiences. How have you benefited from using the product or service you’re promoting? What were your results? These are the questions you should ask yourself and answer in writing. If you’ve never used what you’re promoting, you’re going to have trouble writing convincingly about what the product or service has done for you. A general word of advice: try out your affiliate products before you try to promote them. 4) Give people an incentive to buy (through your site) You’ll also differentiate yourself from other affiliates and increase your conversions by offering people something as an incentive for buying through your affiliate referral link. It could be an e-book, a personal consultation, informative audio or video content or anything else which is genuinely useful, isn’t offered by every other affiliate out there and that has a high perceived value. These kinds of incentives can go a long way towards converting a visitor into a paying customer.

What if you don’t have anything which fits the bill to offer as an incentive? You can make or purchase your own incentives. For example, you could interview someone who your visitors would be interested in hearing from and offering an audio or video recording of the interview. You could hire a copywriter to produce a report, e-book or whitepaper (or if you have the time and the skill, you could do it yourself). You can buy reprint rights to other content or even create a members-only access page on your site with quality free content you’ve assembled. 5. Find residual income opportunities Instead of focusing all of your efforts on programs that just pay you a onetime commission, you can maximize your income by looking for affiliate programs which pay monthly commissions for referred sales on an ongoing basis. You can find residual income from the affiliate programs offered by membership and subscription-based sites and services, stock photography resources, web hosting services, database access services and others. It’s best to go with a mix of programs that offer one time commissions and those which provide ongoing residual income; but make residual income your priority. 6) Convert your subscribers to affiliates This is a potential revenue source often ignored by affiliates. Identify the people on your list who may be interested in becoming affiliates themselves and offer them the opportunity to get involved. How does this work for you? If you’re promoting a two tier affiliate program, you’ll be paid a commission for every sale made by someone you persuade to join on as an affiliate. It’s

free money; but a lot of affiliates don’t explore the potential of these multitier affiliate programs. You can also build your own list while they work to promote their affiliate program! For instance, offer them an incentive to give away to people who purchase through their link; a free report for example. You can include a link in the report itself to promote your site and of course, your list! They get sales, you get more subscribers and if you’re promoting a two tier program, you get a commission from their sales too! This is a win-win situation. 7) Build multiple revenue streams As you continue building your list, you’ll want to add to your offerings occasionally by promoting other affiliate programs, creating your own products for sale (if you have a large list, you’d be surprised how much you can make from a simple, short e-book sold for $10!). Establishing joint ventures with other businesses, cross-promoting products and other monetization strategies can help you to make money from your list and keep your business, your income and of course, your list growing. It all starts with building a relationship with your subscribers. Once you’ve established this, you can run with it and your list can take you anywhere; it’s the secret to making it in affiliate marketing.
