Teach For America Rio Grande Valley (TFA RGV) has been at the forefront of strengthening our region’s educational landscape since 1991. We develop a pipeline of transformative leaders to ensure that all children in pre-K-12 classrooms have access to resources and opportunities to attend schools equipped to support their strengths, value their diverse backgrounds, and have the highest expectations for their academic future.

Over the past 32 years, TFA RGV has placed more than 1,500 teachers in the Valley. After their initial two-year commitment, they become life-long leaders and advocates for educational change. The majority continue their careers as teachers, school leaders, or leaders within educational organizations.

This year, TFA RGV will empower a highly selective cohort of about 50 leaders to teach in nine partner school districts across the Rio Grande Valley for at least two years. Our teachers reflect the diversity of our students in RGV; nearly half of them are from the region, and the other half are from across the state and country.

In addition to this core programming, TFA RGV launched a new tutoring fellowship this 2022-2023 school year. The Ignite Fellowship recruits and trains current college students to lead virtual, small-group tutoring sessions to support students who exhibit unfinished learning in middle school reading and math.

By recruiting and developing new teachers and providing ongoing support to our alums, we aim to meet our region’s needs for high-quality teachers that improve student outcomes, retain them in education, and continue shaping the sector to ensure all children have access to equitable education.
