Reason for Hope 1. Primary Source
a. My primary source is this picture of Jane Goodall from when she was younger studying the chimps. b. This picture is related to my book because she writes a lot about when she was first studying the chimpanzees in the jungle. I also chose this picture because you can really see it in her eyes how passionate she was and still is about animals, especially chimpanzees. 2. Secondary Source a. Describe the secondary source you are planning to use. “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.` I chose this quote as a secondary source because Jane Goodall writes this as one of her favourite quotes that helped her through a lot. b. Why did you choose this source, i.e. how is it connected to your book? I chose this quote as my secondary source because it shows what a wonderful person Jane Goodall really is. It shows her personality. It is connected to the section of the book relating to her second husband`s death.
3. a. Begin with a brief summary of your book. I recommend this book for every eighth grade girl because it shows how Jane Goodall started her career. It is a very inspiring book for girls to start to accomplish their goals. The book is about how Jane Goodall fought for her goals and what she did so one day she could be the first person studying the chimps. I recommend this book for young girls trying to find what they are passionate about.
Short Story
Anna Veer Ms. Cross LA8 E October, 26, 2012 Dear Mother! How is it back in England? It has been very quiet without you. I miss our long talks by the campfire and the discussions of new observations. Yet I don`t feel lonely. I like being on my own .I am learning about new things and myself. I know I haven`t seen a chimpanzee yet but I am still learning a lot about other animals in the forest. I learn something new every day .For example, the red-tail monkeys can move through the forest without almost any noise and the baboons are simple fascinating. The butterflies are stunningly beautiful and there are a lot more fascinating insects .Since there is nobody to really talk to I became really observant of the forest. I can hear the birds singing and other animals chattering. This is a time period for me when loneliness is the way of living. More days pass the more I feel like this magical place is my home. I like to seat outside at night and look at the stars. I know that I came to Gombe for a specific
reason but until I do not find a chimpanzee group to study I am trying to relax and meditate. I enjoy exploring the magical forest that has not been discovered yet. Every day I go deeper and deeper hoping to see a chimpanzee. One day one of the Gombe villagers came up to me and asked me, “Where is the white witchdoctor?” My reply was, “White witchdoctor? I have never heard of her!” The villager looked at me like I was crazy and explained to me who the white witchdoctor was and what she was doing. At the end of the explanation I figured out it was you who was the white witchdoctor! I never knew you set up a clinic under a tree. It was very kind of you to give medicine to the villagers. They miss you and so do I. I am planning to go back to England after a year I find my first chimpanzee group to study. Since here in the forest you can barely hear anything, I can’t even imagine all that noise in England. Tell everybody at home that I love them and miss them. I hope you can come and visit again. August, 1960 Love, Jane
