‘Land’s End’, 42 Ledge Road Newport, Rhode Island Offered at $11,700,000

Land’s End NEWPORT, RI

Unrivaled coastal setting and sweeping ocean views: the ultimate East Coast family retreat has hit the open market. Presenting Newport’s crown jewel . . . Listed by Kendra Toppa, Lila Delman Real Estate Exclusive Affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate 401.339.6233 | Kendra.Toppa@LilaDelman.com

T

ucked away on the Southeastern point of Rhode Island’s Aquidneck Island, lies ‘Land’s End’, a storied family home sited on 5.6 oceanfront acres. Once owned by Pulitzer Prizing winning author Edith Wharton, the property is comprised of an 8+ bedroom main house and 3 bedroom carriage house overlooking Newport’s famed Cliff Walk and Atlantic Ocean. As Wharton famously touted in her writings, ‘Land’s End’ provides dynamic ocean views from virtually every room, rivaling the most coveted vistas on the East Coast. An incredible yearround gathering place for family and friends, the property has been introduced to the market for sale, offered at $11,700,000.

Designed by architect John Sturgis during Newport’s Gilded Age, and later adorned with Ogden Codman motifs, the sun-drenched home is a classic example of understated elegance, retrofitted with modern upgrades including a chef’s kitchen, full house generator, billiards room and saltwater pool. Unlike many classic Newport estates, reminiscent of the days of yesteryear, ‘Land’s End’ welcomes a contemporary approach to living. The rooms, though generously scaled, evoke a sense of intimacy and informality. From the moment you step inside, it is evident that the home is intended to be lived in, loved, and enjoyed

“From the moment you step inside, it is evident that the home is intended to be lived in, loved, and enjoyed.”

Home to many a Sunday family dinner, the dining room enjoys a breathtaking seascape and casual seating area for post-meal conversation.

as a family retreat. Walking through the house, one is quickly enveloped with a sense of comfort and tranquility. Suited for leisure and laughter, one may cozy up to any of the home’s 8 working fireplaces, lounge in the back den or beloved living room, bask in the extraordinary coastal setting, or perhaps mix up a post-swim cocktail in the wet bar pass through, leading from the pool terrace into the main foyer. Indoor and outdoor living become one in the same as floor to ceiling windows open onto wrap around verandas, lining the lush lawns that roll down to the sea. The lawns, though beautifully manicured, have often doubled as a seaside wiffle ball field or soccer arena for the current owner’s children and grandchildren, a memory fondly recalled by all. The property exudes a quite confidence about it, as it undoubtedly carries the title as Newport’s crown jewel of real estate. As one of Newport’s only current oceanfront offerings, ‘Land’s End’ presents an extraordinary opportunity to acquire an East Coast legacy property. Ready to be enjoyed by its next family of owners, the home is the perfect balance of history, modernity, location and design. A must-see in New England. Appetizers, a family affair. the best things in life

Since we all attend so many weddings, that means there are numerous social situations that are unique. Join our very own Ms. Modern Manners Sharon Schweitzer, J.D. as she helps us navigate the nuances for this special time in your life when you are in the spotlight. Dear Ms. Modern Manners, WE’VE DECIDED NOT TO INVITE KIDS TO THE WEDDING, BUT MY fiancé’s mother really wants us to invite her grandchildren. Can we bend the rule or is that playing favorites? Plays By The Rules Dear Rule Requester, Deciding whether to invite children is one of the most difficult guest list questions. Once a decision is made, it’s best to stick with it. Graciously coordinate with both families. Respectfully state that although this is your wedding, you plan to honor what is important to both families during the wedding. Summon up your best diplomacy skills, compromise and remember, you can’t please everyone all of the time. Your fiancé’s mother and her grandchildren will be your new family and you may want to respect their wishes. Consider the following to avoid playing favorites: Due to space limitations, we are hosting an adults-only wedding. The only children attending are immediate family or our wedding party. If anyone needs help with making arrangements for childcare, please let us know and we will do our best to assist. Dear Ms. Modern Manners, My family has set our wedding budget based on our initial guest list, but now my future mother-in-law wants to invite 30 more people. What should we do? Best Guest List Dear Guest Handler, Marriage is about bringing two people together to create a new family. Creating and encouraging open communication with both sides of the family early in the engagement and wedding planning will set the stage for excellent communication during your marriage. Discuss the invitation, location, catering and budget; are there certain people from each family that must be invited? What does your fiancé think? If finances are an issue, will your fiancé’s family contribute? Having an awareness of family customs and showing parental respect goes a long way, especially when this family will become your new extended family.

Dear Ms. Modern Manners, Recently, we had a falling out with a friendly couple during our engagement. Can we dis-invite them? Friend Indeed Dear Friendly Persuasion, Etiquette experts agree that this must never occur. However, life happens. Friendships dissolve, crimes are committed, and indiscretions are discovered. Predicaments the bride and groom cannot fathom surface that can cause anguish on both sides. Yes, it’s true that it’s your wedding and you can invite anyone you wish. However, inviting someone and then rescinding that invitation requires contemplation and diplomacy. If you have the fortitude to rescind a wedding invitation, then you have the courage to do so in person or by phone. Sending an informal text, email, or instant message is insensitive. Words on a screen cannot convey the compassion necessary to deliver the message. When it’s an indiscretion or something criminal, it’s difficult and there are two sides to a story. Yes, there are times when a person can be asked not to attend a wedding as the best solution. Dear Ms. Modern Manners, We don’t want guests to take pictures during the ceremony. How do we stop them from doing it without confiscating their phones? Social Media-Free Dear Social Studies, While there are several steps that can be taken to reduce photos, no one can guarantee that Aunt Gertrude won’t snap a photo for your grandmother. So, consider the following steps to reduce the paparazzi in your circle: 1. Host an electronics free wedding 2. Post an announcement on your wedding website 3. Include a note with the written invitation 4. Decide against a wedding #hashtag 5. Print a notice in the program 6. Post a sign in your style similar to the following: Welcome to our unplugged wedding. We invite you to be fully present during our ceremony. Please turn off all gadgets and enjoy the ceremony with us. s

NEIMAN MARCUS AUSTIN RECENTLY WELCOMED VERONICA MIELE Beard and Veronica Swanson Beard, designers of the successful clothing line Veronica Beard. Over 100 guests attended the chic fashion show event where Neiman Marcus Austin partnered with the Women's Symphony League. The event’s guests enjoyed sips and bites and mingled with the talented designers. The show opened with a fashion chat moderated by media personality, Amanda Tatom. Then, the designers shared their inspiration for the spring collection, its coloration, wearabilty and other insights as a runway show followed that featured the duo’s designs. A portion of the sales from the Veronica Beard event were donated to the Women’s Symphony League. s

RECENTLY, ANARTE GALLERY and Studio in San Antonio hosted artist Kathy Sosa's colorful exhibit, 52. Guests were greeted with margaritas and wine, music by Los Prados, and an art talk with Sosa, whose exhibit that evening donated a portion of the proceeds to benefit Our Kids Can!

Kathy Sosa stated, “Last January I began a project to paint a face a week for a year. This exhibition is the culmination of that work. They are paintings. And yes, they are faces, but not “portraits”, as they evoke the subject in spirit only. The person is a jumping off point for a jumble of shapes and colors that comprise the face.” Sosa went on to share, “The inspiration for the work are friends, and friends of friends who came to sit for me, as well as photos selected from the 14,000 photos in my phone. I am grateful to my online community of friends for their encouragement (and in some cases, participation) and I couldn’t have done it without them.” AnArte gallery plays a dynamic role in the art scene in San Antonio. Established in 2001, their passion is to specialize in both local and international artists. In addition, they assist clients to build exquisite collections. You will find works by many of the world’s most talented artists, modern and contemporary at their gallery that is lively, welcoming and engaging. “Clients become friends, thus a priceless relationship is embraced in sincerity and trust,” says owner Ana Montoya. “Our gallery is one of the longest running galleries in San Antonio.” AnArte also hosts monthly art openings with an Art Talk event that includes special artful cocktails and live music. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 11–5 p.m. and by appointment on Sunday or after hours. For more information, visit AnArteGallery09.com s

Latino Victory Foundation Hosts Hamilton-Tied Event By Jake Gaines | Photography by Sam Pags

WHEN THE HIT BROADWAY MUSICAL HAMILTON RECENTLY DEBUTED in San Antonio at the Majestic Theatre, it was the hottest ticket in town. Lin Manuel Miranda, the creator of the iconic and era-defining musical Hamilton, has been at the helm of its success.

Roberto Trevino, Dr. Luz Towns-Miranda and Ana Sandoval

Supporting the event was the Latino Victory Foundation that partnered with the Miranda family traveled throughout the country in order to build awareness about the nonprofit’s mission: a non-partisan effort to raise awareness about Latinos’ contributions to American society and build greater understanding between Latinos and other communities. The foundation seeks to strengthen the country through conversation and uplift the values of inclusion and civic engagement. Its current board chairman, Luis Miranda, founding president of the Hispanic Federation, is Lin Manuel’s father and his mother, Dr. Luz Towns-Miranda is a nationally renowned psychologist and activist. These three members of the Miranda family have all worked extensively to further Latino Victory Foundation’s mission through public appearances, and by graciously donating a portion of the tickets of Hamilton performances in many cities throughout the United States to help the group’s fundraising efforts. Dr. Towns-Miranda joined Kyle Ferari-Munoz and Dr. Erika Gonzalez, as hosts of the Hamilton San Antonio premier fundraiser, along with Latino Victory Foundation President Melissa Mark-Viverito, to celebrate and support Latino Victory Foundation’s cause. s

THE SETTING: The fabulous gowns and trains that are the focal point of the Fiesta coronation each year are legendary. This year the United States quite literally took center stage as the focus, too. Mistress of the Robes Elizabeth Roberts and the Court Artist Roxana Newsom spent the past year designing each work of art that would be worn by the 24 duchesses of The Court of America The Beautiful. With this most fashionable theme, the duchesses stunned in their regal gowns, each adorned with Swarovski crystals, glass baguettes, bugle beads, and custom stones. Each gown featured a 10 to 14foot long train and weighed up to 60 pounds. The designs on each gown and train evoked images of America’s states cont’d...

that were woven into the design. The presentation of these stunning, bejeweled designs culminated with the final young lady to ascend the grand stage of the Majestic Theatre, Claudia Kiolbassa, Queen Of The Court Of America The Beautiful. The Duchesses and the Royal Princess preceded the Queen ascending the stage as well. It is a spectacular evening of pomp and circumstance.

THE

STYLE: With a backdrop featuring classic American landmarks, the Majestic lived up to its name setting a most majestic scene for the Order of the Alamo’s coronation of the Queen of the Court of America The Beautiful. The first to make an appearance on stage were the young court pages. Each little girl, dressed in a long dress and tiny tiara, curtsied before the crowd and took her place to favorite instrumental performances that represented the United States. It was then that Lord High Chamberlain Wilbur Matthews II made his grand entrance. Serving as King Antonio XCVII was Roger Hill III and the Order of the Alamo President was Marshall Steves III. The Coronation Chairman for the festivities was Elliott Hayne.

THE PURPOSE: The Order of the Alamo was founded in 1909 by a group of patriotic San Antonio men who wished to enlarge Fiesta’s annual celebration of the heroic struggle for Texas’ Independence from Mexico. Since its founding year, the membership of the Order of the Alamo has elected a Queen who has been crowned at the Coronation during the week of Fiesta. s

THE PURPOSE: Rebecca and Keith Long, the 2019 Symphony Ball chairs, created an evening to remember for each Belle and her family. For nearly half a century, the San Antonio Symphony League has proudly presented young ladies who are the children and grandchildren of San Antonio Symphony League members at a formal Symphony Ball. During all four years of high school, Belles earn volunteer service hours through various Symphony League events and one hundred percent of the annual contributions made to the Belle Program are in turn donated to the San Antonio Symphony League. s

Sheridan Butler And Tyler Binford Marry In Austin

Ann Binford and Tyler Binford

exas natives Sheridan Butler, the daughter of Renee and Eddie Butler, and Tyler Binford, the son of Ann and Weston Binford, grew up in Austin. She went to Saint Michael's High School, then Ole Miss. He went to Westlake High School, then Texas State. Even though their childhood homes were both in Westlake, they found each other after they graduated from college. Tyler said he was attracted to Sheridan's beautiful smile, and Sheridan found Tyler's sense of humor irresistible. They dated for four and a half years before Tyler drew on his good humor to proclaim his love for Sheridan. It was Halloween 2017. Sheridan was dressed as Regina George from Mean Girls, and Tyler as Aaron Samuels (Regina’s boyfriend). Sheridan was hosting a party at her home when Tyler managed to sneak out of the party without her noticing. A young trick or treater rang the doorbell escorted by someone dressed in a bear costume. Before Sheridan could think, the person dressed as a bear pulled Sheridan out onto her front porch, removed the bear head and proposed. Sheridan said yes to Tyler in the bear costume.

Grant Butler and Ann Butler

That began a very busy year of meticulous wedding planning and six incredible parties to celebrate their engagement. Friends and family toasted the couple at a Monte Carlo-themed party at The Highball, a weekend-long party for the bridesmaids and groomsmen at a Lake Austin home, another patio party at a Lake Austin home, a BBQ , Bubbles & Brews, a Mad Hatter bridal tea party at the Headliners Club and an Around The World Beer Tasting Party held at Chateau Bellevue. Also, they chose Vickie Roan at The Menagerie to help them with all their wedding registry needs.

Sheridan and Tyler wanted their wedding to highlight family traditions and be filled with fun activities, flowers, themed rooms, specialty drinks, favorite foods, all kinds of music, dancing, more flowers, and photos of them during all stages of their lives. The Thursday night before the wedding, Sheridan and her mother, Renee, hosted the bridal party dinner at Tarry House. The rehearsal dinner was held at the Headliners Club (just like Sheridan's parents' rehearsal dinner 35 years earlier), and the Welcome Party after the dinner was hosted by the bride's grandmother, Ann Butler. The ceremony was held at Tarrytown United Methodist Church. Barton Strings provided the music as the bride walked down the aisle carrying a bouquet of calla lilies that was just like her mother's bouquet when she got married. The flower girl’s basket was the same basket that her mother held for Sheridan's parents' wedding. She wore a Rita Vinieris-designed wedding gown accessorized with her mother's diamond and emerald earrings for something borrowed. Austin Country Club was transformed for the festive reception. "No detail went unnoticed," said Sheridan. Westbank Flower Market arranged more than 3500 white calla lilies for the grand entrance. Two thousand of them stood waist high to greet guests walking down the long aisle to the party, and through the next set of double-doors, the walls were completely covered in greenery so that the callas seemed to be growing from the floor. The bride and her mother created the names for the themed reception rooms as well as the creative names for each food item. Some of the themed rooms included the Dance Room of Ice with a mirrored cont'd...

dance floor and a 16-foot long ice bar that had two large beer luges on either corner that were filled with beer for guests to refill their drinks. The wedding cake was themed Beyond the Cake of Towering Jewels and the groom’s cake was called Tyler’s Texas Adventure Cake. "It had an oil rig, guitar, Westlake Chaparrals logo, poker chips and Coors beer on it," Tyler said. "All of my favorite things besides Sheridan!" Matchmaker provided the music for guests who danced the night away. The bride is active in the Austin community with the Junior League of Austin and the Andy Roddick Foundation and the groom works at Capitol Wright Distribution. The happy couple Sheridan and Tyler had a spectacular send off to start their married life together. They left in a 1963 Bentley through a waterfall of fireworks and a calla lily salute. They honeymooned at The Lodge at Pebble Beach and Half Moon Bay. It’s always been Sheridan’s dream to stay at The Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay since she calls it a “castle on the beach!” Sheridan thanked her parents by saying, "This was the wedding I always dreamed of. This was the wedding of the century for Tyler and me, and a day we will never forget." s

oustonians Jenna McGaw and Ryan Fondren were high school sweethearts before they were married in their hometown. A seven-month engagement was the next step after a nine-year relationship. Ryan, the son of Kelli and Walter Fondren, popped the question to Jenna, the daughter of Trisha and Michael McGaw, with flowers, a letter and the ring at Jenna’s parents’ longtime family home. “Even though we were 15 and 16 years old when we started dating, we have grown into adults and we’ve always made each other laugh and continue to be each other's best friend,” shared Jenna McGaw Fondren.

Jenna Fondren, Trisha McGaw and Ashley McGaw

The couple’s weekend of wedding festivities began at the rehearsal dinner at Hotel Zaza where they were toasted by family and friends. The ceremony and reception were held at The Revaire, an event venue in Houston. “Our ceremony was very special and personalized...our guests were able to hear how we felt about each other in our exact words,” said the bride. The décor was a sublime mix of neutrals, with all-white floral and greenery that was created by Blooming Gallery, all of which was surrounded by shades of champagne, marble, and gray tones. Rebecca Martens of Belle of The Ball Events was the wedding planner who oversaw the couple’s wishes for their dream nuptials.

As Jenna walked down the aisle, escorted by her father, she wore a dress designed by Amsale and delicately perched atop her head was Ryan's family's heirloom veil. The bride had 15 bridesmaids led by Ashley McGaw, her maid of honor and sister. The bridesmaids were: Kendall Allen, Maggie Buscha, Addie Clark, Keni Fondren, Lauren Gray, Carroll Ison, Meredith Knight, Katherine Lange, Adrianne Leibman, Lauren Maguire, Carson Miller, Allyson Poujol, Cynthia Ormiston, and Lindsey Smith. Her house party attendants consisted of Carolina Roberts, Mary Curry, Anabelle Reade, and Ava McBath. The groom had 13 groomsmen led by Chase Fondren, his brother and best man. They were: Mitchell Austin, Mason Hunt, Alex Ghadially, Robert Lartigue, Adam McCauley, Matthew Moldawer, Jared Smith, Luke Utley, Chris Varalla, Matt Weisberger, Stewart Wombwell, and Joseph White. The ushers were: Jake Molak, Sammy Condurso, Keller Towns, and Luke Walter. The reception kicked into high gear with the Empire 6 band that provided the entertainment for the evening. was dotted with all the favorite spots the couple has enjoyed throughout the state. Guests also enjoyed photo opportunities in front of a huge feather wall that was built as the backdrop of the photo booth. Jenna and Ryan Fondren traveled to Curacao in the Caribbean for their honeymoon. They will continue to reside in Houston where the bride works as the manager of the Safe School Institute for Crime Stoppers of Houston and the groom is a project manager for Thomas O'Neill Homes. In addition to spending time outdoors and on the water, they enjoy visiting Ryan's family ranch in Columbus. s

Storybook ROMANCE

Victoria Davis and Mitchell Dan Marry In Dallas By Claire-Lise Greve Photography by Claire Casner Photography

Victoria Dan and Kathy Williams

Sarah Dan, Chad Dan, Victoria and Mitch Dan, Nikki Dan & Tyler Dan

Victoria Dan, Graham Davis, Doug Williams and Chad Davis

B

efore bending on one knee and popping the question, Mitchell Dan created the perfect proposal. He wrote a heartwarming book about his storybook romance with Victoria Davis and, with the help of her closest high school girlfriends, rigged a white elephant gift exchange to hide the surprise. Her friends made her read the book aloud and when “real life had caught up to the story,” Mitchell walked out of the closet and proposed to Victoria.

Victoria Dan and Graham Williams

At the beginning of their story, Victoria was a young lady from Dallas, and Mitchell was a young man from San Antonio who had both chosen to further their education at the University of Texas at Austin. As luck would have it, the two love birds would meet and end up falling in love. Victoria, the daughter of Kathy and Doug Williams, and Charles Davis, and Mitchell, the son of Nicole and Charles Dan, dated for four exciting years filled with traveling, cooking, and quality time with family and friends. “We really tried to soak up the fun times in life,” doted the couple, “we both appreciate the spontaneity of each other.” And that spontaneity that Victoria fell in love with was exemplified perfectly in the story of how Mitchell proposed. After a fifteen month engagement, the couple tied the knot at the Perkins Chapel at Southern Methodist University in the bride’s hometown of Dallas. The picturesque church with a magnificent steeple and grand columns made a spectacular backdrop for the couple’s memorable event for the black tie occasion. The evening before the nuptials, the couple’s rehearsal dinner reflected elements of Michell’s hometown with a seated Mexican dinner adorned with festive decor that added some San Antonio flavor that included Otomi

tablecloths, terra cotta mission churches, personalized papel picado, and bright floral arrangements with ribbons. Both the bride and groom had 10 bridesmaids and groomsmen attendants. Attending Victoria were Marylyn Toledo as her maid of honor with Sarah Dan, Catherine Davis, Morgan Doyle, Alexis Euart, Christina Florey, Camryn Pennington, Mary Clare Pugh, Taylor Williams, and Kelly Winkle. Attending Mitchell was Tyler Dan as his best man, Brady Blonkvist, Chad Davis, Graham Davis, Evan Golden, Clark Hudnall, Trevor Lovelady, Luke Maloy, Bryson Marshall, and Philip Massari. The bride walked down the aisle in a stunning princess style gown with a sweetheart neckline by Rita Vinieris from Ivory Bridal Atelier. For her “something blue,” Mitchell surprised Victoria with a dazzling pair of custom earrings from Lindsey Leigh Jewelry. Victoria’s mother also had a custom “something blue” ring designed for her. The blue and white floral decor, which were featured at both the ceremony and reception, were fashioned by The Garden Gate Dallas and contributed exceptionally well to the blue, white and blush coloration of the wedding. While the 250 guests made their way to the reception at the Royal Oaks Country Club, the bride and groom were able to sneak a secluded moment together where they enjoyed a glass of champagne and hors d’ oeuvres. At the reception, the guests enjoyed an exceptional and sentimental wine since the bride’s parents are investors in the Sonoma Valley Wine Cast, where they grow their own grapes and create delectable wines on their land near Healdsburg, California.

cont'd...

Kathy and Doug Williams

For dinner, the guests were treated to a culinary selection featuring a magnificent filet, crab cakes, garlic mashed potatoes, and asparagus. Afterward, the couple cut into their six-tier cake designed by Dallas Affaires Cakes, which featured their custom logo in the center adorned with blue flowers around it. Since Mitchell works in the oil industry, it was only fitting to incorporate elements of his career in the groom’s cake. Based on the design that Mitchell created, it was a 3D look into the earth’s subsurface in a typical gulf coast oil trap that featured an oil derrick and work crew on top of the cake. The wedding planner, Kay Watson, flawlessly executed the dazzling reception for the happy couple. The musical stylings of the Empire 6 Band entertained the guests as they danced under the glamour of the grand chandelier. One of the couple’s favorite moments of the night was when Mitchell’s grandmother, Meme, raised her cane and, in his words, “lit up the dance floor with some incredible moves at the age of 86.” At the end of the reception, Mitchell and Victoria did a private dance before the guests lined up for the couple’s grand exit into a 1959 Rolls Royce. The newlyweds traveled to Greece for their honeymoon where they explored the picturesque countryside. The couple resides in Houston, Texas where Victoria is a pediatric intensive care nurse and Mitchell is a petroleum geologist at Dunn Exploration. s

A

mber Scanio and Al Koehler were recently married in a surprise ceremony at the Tarrytown, West Austin home of Chico and Wendy Korth. Amber, a native of Keller, Texas and a University of Texas at Austin alumna and Al, a native of Houston and a Texas A&M alumnus, first met at a birthday party the groom hosted at his home in 2016.

Dottie and Max Koehler & Al Koehler

After a two year courtship, in the summer of 2018 while vacationing in London, the couple became engaged at their favorite spot in the city, a private club in the Mayfair section of England’s capital. “As we were about to walk out to meet some friends for dinner, Al told me to wait a second because he had to ask me something,” muses the bride, Amber Scanio Koehler. “My heart skipped a beat. I knew what was about to happen.” She went on to say, “Right there in our cozy room, Al got down on one knee, grabbed my hands and told me he’s known that he wanted to spend forever with me from the very beginning. When he asked me if I would marry him, tears were already streaming down my face. I shouted yes.” Seven months after their engagement, the couple invited 250 of their family and closest friends to an engagement party at the Korth residence. As partygoers arrived on a picture perfect, crisp late winter evening, some eagle-eyed revelers noticed a stunning Sperry Tent in the back yard that was visible from the street. It left some to wonder if something bigger might be in store beyond what was already supposed to be a very special night.

At the beginning of the evening, the happy couple effortlessly and graciously played the role of party hosts but then they sneaked away for a “costume change”. While preparing to get ready for their nuptials, a funny thing happened: the zipper of Amber’s engagement party dress became stuck. “I only had a couple of minutes to change into my wedding gown. Instead of panicking, my best friends’ were quick to pull out the scissors to cut the party dress off. We couldn’t risk messing up my hair and makeup,” Amber recalled. Shortly before the bride and groom were to walk down the aisle, guests were asked to gather in the tent in the back yard. As they walked in, against the backdrop of a Flamenco guitarist, the attendees were dazzled by the white David Kurio-designed floral decor inside and knew the evening was about to get much more special. Chico Korth addressed the audience from the altar and after asking guests to put their phones away for a few moments, let them know they were indeed about to attend a wedding. Al and Amber made a grand entrance into the tent where the bride glowed in a Nicole Miller dress from Unbridaled with a pearl and beaded broach perfectly placed in her hair. Then, the officiate of the ceremony, John Scott, asked friends and family in attendance, “Will you love, support and protect Al and Amber through their lives together?” before the couple whispered their vows in an intimate way so that only they could hear themselves. Following the ceremony, guests ventured to the main house for the cake cutting. The multi-tiered cake, in cont'd...

keeping with the white and crème color scheme of the wedding, was polka-dotted with beautiful, intricate ivory pearls and cream colored roses with rose sugar flowers and a floral base covering the bottom tier. After the cake cutting, the happy guests sipped on the couple’s two signature cocktails, Watermelon Martinis and Moscow Mules, while enjoying passed appetizers, as well as burgers and fries courtesy of P-Terry’s. As the couple departed from the reception, they were showered with fresh, white rose petals by cheering onlookers. The bride and groom then invited guests to board luxury coaches for the after party at the home of Joe and Kirstin Ross, located close by the wedding venue, where the fun continued for the euphoric guests well into the wee hours of the morning.

The Koehler family

The couple, who have a mutual love for travel, are planning a globe-trotting, four-continent trilogy of belated honeymoon trips that will take place over several months. The couple jetted off to Amsterdam and Croatia in May, and after returning to Austin, they left for Europe on a romantic Italian getaway to Positano and Venice in July. Their third honeymoon will be a month-long trip in August and September that will include stops in New Zealand, Vietnam, the Maldives, Kenya, and Istanbul with a final stop in the city where the groom proposed, London.

ELIZABETH ADAMS AND EDWARD “CHAP” BERNET MARRY IN SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE BY JAKE GAINES

Elizabeth Bernet and Ann Adams

Stacy Hicks and Elizabeth Bernet

E

lizabeth Adams, the daughter of Ann and Frank Adams and Edward “Chap” Bernet, the son of Clemmie and Brant Bernet, both of Dallas, suspected they might have a future together way back at Highland Park Middle School. Elizabeth remembered Chap as the funny tall kid in the D.A.R.E. skits and Chap remembered Elizabeth as the tall girl surrounded by friends while walking the track.

Ann and Frank Adams

The flame ignited in high school and heated up through college (she graduated from the University of Texas and he graduated from Texas Tech University) until the couple became engaged in Boston in 2018. That’s when Chap took Elizabeth on a train to a small beach for the day on their anniversary. A Nor’easter had just passed through, so it was chilly and the waves were massive, according to the couple. Everyone in the sleepy, quaint town was out watching the waves, so privacy was scarce. Chap led Elizabeth on several walks to locate the perfect spot and finally found it by the harbor. Words, laughs and tears were shared until Chap bent down on one knee, and the bride-to-be said yes. Both loving Mexico, the couple were married in San Miguel de Allende. The festivities kicked off with the rehearsal dinner at Casa San Panco and the Rosewood San Miguel de Allende served as the venue for the wedding ceremony and reception. “The décor, created by Macadamia Flores, was comprised of seasonal flowers from the Guanajuato region that matched the colorful streets of the quaint Mexican city; pinks, reds, yellows and pops of greenery,” shared Elizabeth Adams Bernet. “Guests walked through the Rosewood Lavender Garden upon arrival, where the Jacaranda trees bloomed in vibrant purple and Pampas grass framed the ceremony site.” Brian Worley Productions

Victoria Davis Dan and Graham Williams

and Suzanne Reinhard Events teamed to produce the nuptial gathering weekend. The bride walked down the aisle wearing a Spanish lace, strapless gown by Monique Lhuillier. Her earrings were from her late grandmother, a pearl ring was borrowed from her other grandmother, and lace was sewn into the hem of her dress that came from the wedding gown of the groom’s grandmother. Elizabeth borrowed her veil from her older sister, Stacy Hicks and the blue sapphire fashioned to her bouquet was her father's first wedding anniversary gift to her mother. When Chap first saw Elizabeth, he started sobbing. Then, she tripped slightly and began laughing with her father, who escorted her, which caused Chap's tears to turn into the biggest smile, according to the bride. The groom wore a custom Knot Standard white dinner jacket and custom navy tuxedo pants and sported a set of his great grandfather's cufflinks that he borrowed from his father. A dear friend of the couple’s, Elly Hutchings, officiated the wedding and was chosen for her close relationship with Elizabeth and Chap. Commented the couple, “Her way with words always speaks to her positive, contagious spirit.” Elizabeth's cousins played the processional music at the ceremony where the couple was surrounded by their attendants. The bride’s sisters attended her with Stacy Hicks as matron of honor and Caroline Adams as her maid of honor. The 10 bridesmaids were: Daisy Bernet, Elizabeth Bernet, Phoebe Bernet, Georgie Ferrell, Erica Hubble, Francis Nolan, Ellie O'Neil, Melanie Proctor, Mary Margaret Shamburger, and Laura Wright. The groom’s best man was Charlie Bernet and serving as his 10 groomsmen were: Matt Bonano, Chris Calandro, Dodge Carter, Mack Hicks, Steve Lander, Billy Langhenry, Edward cont'd...

Neblett, Madison Oden, Tyler Riek, and Ben Stevens. Elizabeth asked her house party to wear bright colors and sit on the aisles so she could see their faces on the way in and out, and they also threw colorful flower petals during the mariachi recessional. After the ceremony, the venue for the reception had a fantastic view of the Parroquia parish church that was ensconced with ambient and chandelier lighting that created the perfect ambiance for guests dancing under the stars. A buffet and seated supper included guacamole, ceviche and carving stations. As the reception progressed, the first 10 songs (including the first dance) were played by Chap's family; his grandfather, uncle, father and sister until Elizabeth & Chap joined the band for the last two songs. In fact, Chap performed a song that he had especially written for Elizabeth. Then, the two DJs took over and as the night progressed, guests swapped their heels for Crocs, colorful ties were passed out for guests to tie around their heads and the DJs drew war paint markings in pink, red and yellow paint on all of the guests. It was the perfect night. “The Rosewood was beautiful and Elizabeth was the most gorgeous bride anyone had ever seen, shared the groom. The Rosewood also designed and created the multi-tiered cake that was adorned with fresh flowers and the house party laid their bouquets around it. The happy couple spent their honeymoon on the Taha'a island in French Polynesia. They make their home in Nashville where the bride works in digital marketing at Suretone Entertainment and the groom is in corporate entertainment booking at the APA Agency. San Miguel will always hold a special place in their hearts and they plan to return often. s

Tropical Bliss Brittanny Newsom And Christopher Schwarz Marry In Nevis, West Indies By Rose Betty Williams

Beverly and Dr. Gary Newsom

I

t was the perfect tropical day for a wedding when Brittanny Newsom, the daughter of Beverly and Dr. Gary Newsom of Austin, and Christopher Schwarz, the son of Susan and Douglas Schwarz of Westfield, New Jersey, were married on the eastern shore of Nevis, West Indies, overlooking the Caribbean Sea in front of the bride’s family home.

Susan and Douglas Schwarz

Brittanny, a native Texan with roots in Austin and Big Spring, and Chris, raised in New Jersey, met in New York City where they both lived. Brittanny was studying Art Business at Sotheby’s Institute of Art and earning a Masters of Art degree. Chris was employed by Bleacher Report as an NBA Producer. He’s now the producer for the NFL Networks show, Good Morning Football, and is an Emmy Award winner for his coverage of the Olympics on NBC. “Our engagement was eight months, but we dated for three years,” said Brittanny. “What attracted me to Chris was how funny and smart he was. There isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t laugh together.” The groom shares that “Brittanny was a breath of fresh Southern air in a city I’d lived in for years. And as I’ve grown to know her, I’m continually taken aback by how much goodness she has in her heart. She surprises me every single day.” With the benefit of Brittanny’s background in art, they enjoy going to museums and galleries in the city; and with Chris’s tutelage, they go to the driving range at Chelsea Piers where Brittanny is attempting to learn

golf. They also love trying out new restaurants. In fact, their first date was near Brittanny’s West Village apartment at the Entwine wine bar on Hudson Street. After a few years of dating, Chris had the idea of taking a trip somewhere overseas. They chose to go to Iceland for a weeklong vacation since neither of them had been there. “On our first night in Reykjavik, we went on a private sightseeing tour in hopes of catching a glimpse of the elusive Northern Lights,” Brittanny said. “We were fortunate enough to actually see the green and blue lights across the sky. That’s when Chris dropped to one knee and asked to spend the rest of his life with me.” Brittanny and Chris wanted a wedding weekend in Nevis filled with events, love and celebration. They also wanted it to be intimate and shared with their closest friends and family. With that in mind, Brittanny consulted with her parents and they began planning the wedding with the talents of Kathy Blount of Meeting Dynamics Global. The bride bought her wedding dress at Kleinfeld Bridal in New York, and chose to wear vintage jewelry passed down from both her grandmothers. The welcome party was held the first night on the beach at The Yachtsman Grill. On day two of the wedding weekend, Brittanny’s grandmother Joan Beil and great aunt Margy Keaton hosted the bridesmaids’ luncheon. That was followed by the rehearsal dinner at the Golden Rock Inn, a sugar mill dating back to cont'd...

1801 that was purchased and transformed into a boutique hotel by New York artists Helen and Bruce Marden. The ceremony took place in front of the Newsom family home overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Brittanny’s sister Brooke Newsom was maid of honor and her attendants were Sara Lysen, Caitlin O’Connor, Danielle Ruiz, Vanessa Santosuosso, and Miranda Wise. Bradford Schwarz, Chris’s brother, was the best man with David Evans serving as the groomsman. “There are so many specifics and nuances that go into planning and orchestrating a wedding. And with so many intangibles, something is bound to go awry,” Chris said. “When clouds started rolling in at the beginning of our ceremony, I figured despite all the planning my bride and her mother had done, our guests would be rained on, putting a damper on our wonderful day, but the weather held off, and mere moments after we said ‘I do’, a bit of thunder clapped and the Caribbean rain held off until everyone was on the way to the reception. It seemed like good luck at the time, but looking back now, it feels like something so much more meaningful and powerful than luck.” The reception was held at the Montpelier Plantation Inn, an 18th century sugar plantation-turned-boutique hotel with 60 acres of lush tropical gardens that was often a hideaway vacation spot for Diana, Princess of Wales. Guests toasted the bride and groom with Dom Perignon, French wines and a fivecourse Nevisian cuisine dinner. The music was comprised of steel drums and violins, but the bride’s side of the family was surprised and thrilled when the Nevisian Green House Band played their Caribbean version of God Bless Texas. The happy couple’s destination wedding was a weekend in paradise. For their honeymoon, they jetted to the southern coast of France. Now they’re decorating their newly purchased West Village apartment and will continue to travel, explore New York City and return to visit Texas often. s

WHY CHOOSE PRE-JUVENATION? PRE-JUVENATION is a new concept of using self to rejuvenate self and to slow the aging process of facial tissues. By using our own body’s healing capacity, we can improve the changes of facial aging—or at least slow them down. PREJUVENATION treatments are performed in our office with minimal downtime. The primary concept is to promote deposition of elastin and collagen the key components of our facial tissues by performing microneedling using the new only FDA approved microneedling instrument, the SkinPen. A microneedling treatment delivers a very gentle stimulation to skin to activate the healing cascade such as deposition of new elastin, collagen and the ingrowth of micro blood vessels that can supply more nutrients to the skin. We are also very excited about treatments of facial skin with PRP (platelet rich plasma) which is prepared using your own blood to harvest specific cells that will activate the rejuvenation cascade within the facial skin. The field of biologic therapy (using your tissues) such as blood, fat cells and bone marrow to stimulate your own body to heal an injury, enhance a surgical procedure result or improve the changes of facial aging is a rapidly expanding field within the fast-growing sector of rejuvenative medicine. Presently, an extensive body of research is dedicated to this growing technology around the world. The future for biologic therapies is promising and research results for this science are encouraging from around the globe. We look forward to meeting you to further discuss this exciting field of facial rejuvenation.
