I’ve always been keen on studying the influence that materials, spaces’ layout, light and colour have in our subliminal conscience and what sensations do these generate. That’s why I have always looked at architecture as a way to explore scenic spaces, making each one a different sensorial experience. Born in 1988 in Lisbon, I have worked as an architect for 2 years and developed several activities in areas like graphic design, photography and plastic arts.

form or function, what comes first? This project was based on a mythic question about what comes first, the chicken or the egg. Everything starts with a cartoon sitting on a square, questioning if it has the perfect shape: “DES EN QUADRADO.”
I’ve started all the creative process with a square deconstruction, from drawings to the model, and therefore to architecture space. The aim was to make an object which could be read from the function to the form or from the form to the function proving the infinitive process.

All areas inside were designed also to get a cartoon’s feeling, and even the furniture would be based in the same shapes. The library would be the warmest zone, in contrast with the exhibition area.

is architecture responsible for human’s health? This project is about elderly housing and dedicated to the question above. I’ve ever wondered how people react when in touch with some materials, colours or distances. In my thesis I’ve chosen to find out if architecture could help the elderly’s life, seeking for answers and tools to influence their actions and behaviours throughout the architectural space, looking for a specific subliminal message.

how can architecture help on the elderly’s problems? through the HUMAN SENSES
The mental health in the elderly is absolutely important for their physical health, that’s why I’ve found the importance of making architectural decisions to provide a potential therapeutic space. Being
aware of the elderly’s needs, the development of the project was based in a balance of home and
health clinic spaces, working with unconscious actions, influenced by the architecture tools.

what is the influence of the colour? The colour and temperature of the space has an influence in human’s humour. At the same time, elderly people usually suffer from eye conditions and there’s some colours they’re not able to see anymore.

Faz-me de cor or Faz-me de cor* This collective exhibition with painter Ana Maria Moniz aimed to explore two separate approaches to the book Alice through the looking glass by Lewis Carroll. While trying to transport some of the action to real life, the question remained between us: “what the hell was Alice doing in the other side of the mirror?“ * The title has two different meanings, picking up the mirror concept: in one hand it means make me of colour, while in the other means make me by memory.

bubble tap A collective installation in Hannover, Germany. The purpose was to design an installation inside one of the selected rooms within the university. There were several rooms available and a WC to take shower. I’ve chosen to transform this shower cabin with plastic bags to develop the sensorial experience of a solid shower.

academic project | Lisbon, 2007
reinterpretation of Citizen Kane Based on Citizen Kane’s film, it was asked to reproduce a model with exactly the same shadows and lighting represented on a film excerpt. The second part was dedicated to the reinterpretation of the space, where I’ve explored its scenic feature, taking advantage of the most important elements in the excerpt.

the blind doubt Meanwhile, this photography composition begins with a totally figurative element completed by its projection that grows towards the dark blur. The interaction between these two elements makes the figurative element disappear when its projection becomes independent and creates a shape on its own, converting the figure in a superfluous thing.
