Reflection page

My Stage 1 was great. The most enjoyable for me this year was learning how to use different kinds of media as tools to express my ideas. Model making is probably my favorite part now and tutors were encouraging me to pay attention to it, but using different computer programs was extremely exciting and felt like opening the whole new world. The part that I was the most afraid of was the group work, but not anymore, I loved to collaborate my ideas with others as well as learn from them. I also enjoyed the drawing sessions in the beginning of the year and I wish we could have more of those, just to get more advice on sketching and photography. Overall, I am surprised how much I have learned and I absolutely loved my Stage 1 journey.

MARKET PLACED

Design of my progect evolved from the function of my stall that is a plant shop and a greenhouse. The main concept of my stall is growing and selling plants at the same spot, the same is the market. After analysing the sunpath of the site, I located my market in such way that the sun hits the plants at different times of the day regarding the type of the plant. The sun also heats up the concrete that would store the energy and keep the plants warm just like a greenhouse. The roof evolved from the research on the affect of different colour light on the growth of different plants.

Site 1 analysis

Analyzing the first sight inspired us to create an enclosed courtyard, placing all the stalls next to each other.

My idea was designing a plant shop and a greenhouse in one stall.

Function and matherials

After analysing the sunpath of the site I placed the stall in such way that the sun would cover the surfaced with the plants. Choosing concrete as a material was a way to store the heat from the sun and give it to the flowers.

Site 2 analysis

For my market I kept the idea of growing and selling plants in the same space. It bacame a square that was opened from one side to open a view at the tree and the green area.

The market is devided into stalls that sell and grow different types of plants. The location of each depends on the location of the sun at different parts of the day for better conditions for the plants. The market has a growing plants station on the higher level and a selling points on the lower level.

Use of colour in the reenhouse, UK

The design of the roof was based on the research on the connection between plant growth and colour. The roof creates a hall under it.

INTERVENTION!

My Intervetion is a relaxation zone and a viewing point. These two functions are very often found in treehouses, for my treehouse I used a concrete column as a tree trunk. Windows are located depending on the views. To control the direction of the views from the windows I covered some parts of the windows with mirrors. For the interior I choose to put a bean bag to make the atmosphere playfull. But after the critics I was adviced to design seats so they would help me to control the views. Colour was also an important part of the design. Purple was chosen as the colour that reflects wisdom and personal talks.

Site analysis

The analysis of the Mertz Court bacame a collection of very dark and very bright spaces. For my Intervention I wanted to avoid the dark parts and focuse on the bright ones.

The bean bag is ment to let people ‘shape their own comfort‘ and relax. Purple is a colour of wisdom and leads to personal conversations.

CHARETTE WEEK

For the Charette Week we were working on the Do NOT Touch project, where we turned a class room (area in front of the Architecture school) into a garden where everthing was made of plastic bags and cardboard.
