Master Thesis
Landskrona, Sweden
The aim of this master thesis is to strengthen the image of Landskrona as a coastal city and create good conditions for sea bathing in the city centre. The new bathhouse proposal will be designed to be more accessible to the general public and not necessarily member exclusive. As cold bathhouses have rapidly increased in popularity throughout the region in the recent decade, my thesis investigation will result in discovering how a new cold bathhouse could strengthen the Landskrona’s image as a seaside town and restore a part of its sea bathing heritage and tradition for future generations. The outcome of this project is a design proposal of a cold bathhouse in the centre of Landskrona. This new retreat aims to bring back sea bathing opportunities to the heart of the city, while simultaneously creating a bridge between urban life and nature. The pier from the mainland to the bathhouse, will contain opportunities for sauna, sea bathing, sunbathing, socialising, and enjoying the beautiful, panoramic view of Öresund.

Our task was to design a dementia village consisting of 80-120 apartments with common and public functions. Our aim was to integrate the neighbouring forest into the project. The residents in this building suffer from dementia with varied symptoms between the residents, meaning they have different needs in their environment. Our design proposal prioritises an enriched and supportive social environment, connection to nature as well as to other people and relatable building structures.

The lower village consists of five units across three stories. Access to the housing is possible through the vertical gardens. The lower floor in the lower village consists of one unit and general staff functions. The staff have their main entrance towards north, close to their parking, while the delivery is located next to it towards west. The kitchen is placed with a direct connection to the residential courtyard with outdoor urban farming and indoors a greenhouse is placed.

Sustainable Cities in the Nordic-Baltic Region brings together 25 Nordic/Baltic students from various disciplines into a three-day intensive course and competition to solve real-world urban cases. In 2019 the challenge case concentrated on developing Mustamäe and its post-socialist residential courtyards. The challenge included dealing with an increasing amount of cars parked in the courtyards, threatening their position as green community spaces. Mustamäe has inherited from Soviet times a space with little identity, lack of seasonal activities, planning that does not support people’s flow effectively, social disengagement and the current car-possessing trend. The solution to this is the central courtyard node consists of a shared pieces of functional and diverse land use combining blue, green, yellow and red elements. Residents will be the decision makers and personalise their courtyard by choosing solutions among a variety of options. After successful implementation of pilot courtyard we aspire to develop it into a network of courtyard nodes.
