who am I?

Hello, I am Sofia Peracchi. I am many things, but for you, who are possibly interested in my work, I am young designer based between Parma and Milan, usually on the unconfortable seat of a train. I am used to travel and adapt, without losing focus, managing many tasks at the same time. I am curring attending both Politecnico di Milano, for my Master’s Degree in Communication Design, and Alta Scuola Politecnica, whose courses take place all around Italy. I have had explored many different interests before I got to graphic design. But this, I think, is one of my greatest strengths. I haven’t always loved graphic design, but I have learned to love it. The multipurpose of design and the variety of practices this subject involves perfectly embrace my wide range of interests, allowing me to collide different types of projects, in order to create something always new, and ready to serve more and more specific needs. During my life I have taken risks, but I have also learned how to commit to things. I spent one year abroad in the U.S. during High School to widen my prospects, I do volunteer work to support a cause I believe in, I play to feel and I write to breathe, but I design because creating and learning from others are two of the most important things that make me who I am.

BRIEF:

Create a new graphic design museum in Milan

CONTEXT:

Design Studio, Politecnico di Milano, 2018

The museum, created in collaboration with AIAP, is called eVIDENS: e represents new technologies and digital innovations, a look towards the future, while VIDENS, a Latin word, is a remainder of the past, to which we owe everything we are today. It is a museum in which past, present and future can dialogue, creating exhibits using both new technologies and AIAP’s incredible archives. We designed the logo and the visual identity, the merchandise and the corporate stationary, the official website, social media accounts and a campaign to launch the museum but also the first exhibit: “Books at your fingertips”, dedicated to the history of paperback books.

Farmacia Picasso

BRIEF:

Design a visual idenity for a pharmacy in Parma

CONTEXT:

Professional project, in collaboration with

Studio Architetto Roberta Pilotti

For Farmacia Picasso, a newly opened pharmacy in Parma, I created its logo and the related visual identity. Furthermore, I helped designing the packaging for the pharmacy’s own products, working out how to apply the brand identity with all the required information about medicines and related items.

Oplontis stone by stone BRIEF:

Design a crowdfunding campaing to restore

one site of the Pompeii Archeological Park

CONTEXT:

Archeology of Communicaion course,

Politecnico di Milano, 2019

Oplontis Stone by stone aims to fund two projets: build a path to connect Villa A and Villa B, which would be partially reopened, and display more artefacts from the archives. It wants to show the beauty of this place, shining a light on all the things Oplontis still has to offer. The campaign will start before the official launch on patreon, through posters and ads both online and offline. During the two years of crowdfunding, the audience will gain different rewards, according to the type of subscription they have: an online magazine, wallpapers, behind the scenes vlogs, engraved tiles, and so much more.

Estremi Vicini

BRIEF:

Promote RaggiungiMi, a public service in Milan

for family reunification

CONTEXT:

Bachelor thesis, Politecnico di Milano, 2019

We designed an awarness campaign both for foreign families and for Italian citizens, who could help spread the word about it. For Italian citizens we created an interactive exhibition, focused on a sensorial experience: interacting with three installations, the visitor will feel what being separated from his/her family is like. The first installation (hearing) includes parts of phone calls in various languages, the second (sight) shows a collection of photos of people Skyping with each others, while the third (touch) presents a polyethylene wall, a physical metaphor for what divides family members. For foreign families we created an online platform, with different services and activities, to create a community and spread the word about RaggiungiMi. the exhibition The exhibition will take place in a 30mx30m wide space, divided by plywood panels. This will easily allow the exhibition to be moved around Milan, reaching different people and citizens. Also, thanks to its low budget, it can be replicated in the future.

Maya

BRIEF:

Design a service for one of today’s problems

CONTEXT:

Design Studio, Politecnico di Milano, 2017

Maya is a project created to implement wellness in a working environment. Today our lives are hectic, busy, and most of all stressful. Burnout is becoming a real issue. Maya wants to allow people to show the stress level in a office, so that people, and especially managers, can behave consequently, to better the overall morale. Thanks to multiple sensors spread out across a space, it will be possible to monitor the employees’ stress levels. These metrics will be translated both into a physical installation to place in the office, which will change color from yellow to red according to the stress level, and a mobile app, for remote monitoring.

The cell is made up by LED lights (from yellow to red), connected to Arduino, which interprets the inputs registered by the sensors placed in the office, changing the color of the lights accordingly. The wall is a map of the working space, so the color will change in the cells representing a specific room or table.

DesignVerso

BRIEF:

Design an issue dedicated to Saul Bass

for the magazine DesignVerso

CONTEXT:

Design Studio, Politecnico di Milano, 2017

Saul Bass through the looking glass is a special issue for the fictitious magazine DesignVerso (inspired by the actual magazine Multiverso). The issue is a monograph on American designer Saul Bass: it explores his life, his work and how he managed to influence the history of Communication Design. The magazine is implemented by NFC tags, which allow the reader to access online content related to the articles, especially those concerning his movie titles. The issue is divided in four sections; at the beginning of each chapter, there is a different flyleaf; when justxtaposed, they compose one of the most famous quotes of the designer. I created a website for Architect Roberta Pilotti’s Studio in Parma: it is a platform to display her projects and explain all the services her studio can provide. Additionally, I have worked on the SEO, implementing the code in order to let potential clients find the studio or contact her more easily.

Fantaghirò The Game BRIEF:

Translate one of Italo Calvino’s

Italian Folktales into a new media CONTEXT:

Sociology of Media, Politecnico di Milano, 2020

Inspired by one of Italo Calvino’s fairytales, Fantaghirò Persona Bella, my group and I have created a boardgame, whose mechanics, characters and design mimic the fabulist atmosphere of the story. It is a game designed for 4 to 10 players, suitable for both children and adults, thanks to the easy mechanics and the speed of the match. The game includes character cards, which allow the roleplay, tokens (distributed between the players according to their role), a scoreboard, a roll board, small velvet sacks to cointain the tokens and the character cards, an instruction pamplet and a few index cards.
