HABANA
Stories of Self Sufficiency
For every Popinjay product you buy, a beautiful change is happening for the hands that created it. HABANA is a testament to the hands that make it come alive. A story is woven between the threads of our bags, creating an ever-lasting bond between the woman who made it, and the woman who carries it. This collection is the work of 160 artisan women in the village of Kot Ishaq in Punjab, Pakistan, that have gracefully mastered the ancient art of hand-embroidery. This trade has guided these women to a path of self-sufficiency, as well as offered them pride, dignity and confidence. The making of every Popinjay bag opens doors to boundless opportunities for these artisans. Locally sourced and sewn, our designs revive indigenous craft techniques in a way that delights the fashion-forward consumer, while making them a guardian of artisan tradition.
HABANA A timeless fusion of old-world craft and the new world, Popinjay’s HABANA collection is inspired by early 20th century Cuban art movements: Art Nouveau, Eclecticism and Art Deco.
With bold, floral and asymmetric patterns, and elements of the traditional architecture of Old Havana, this collection is a passage into lost time. The designs of HABANA will take you to the cultural heart of Cuba where decoration and eye-catching patterns are the pinnacle of art and design.
