3. Usage of past subjunctive tense: when the first verb of the sentence is in the… a. Conditional b. Imperfect

e.g. Yo desearía que tú estudiaras español. e.g. Él dudaba que ellos salieran temprano.

c. Preterite e.g. María pidió que nosotros fuéramos a su casa. d. Pluperfect or

e.g. Yo había permitido que los niños entraran al juego.

Past Perfect 4. T o form the past subjunctive tense, you take the verb form of ellos (-aron/-ieron) from the preterite tense. Drop the on in ellos and add the endings that correspond with each subject:

1. Clues: a. Two different subjects and que is introduced in one sentence. b. Some common connecting phrases or words which frequently set up the subjunctive: • para que, antes (de) que, que, sin que, con tal (de) que, mientras, cuando, en caso de que, hasta que, como si, etc. 2.
