‘Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin’

Is Peacock’s Biggest Comedy Launch to Date

From Thanksgiving Day on Nov. 24 to Sunday, Nov. 28, NBCUniversalTelevision and Streaming reached an audience of 120.7 million people. Between holiday content, sports, late night and more, programming across NBCU’s different platforms bested several of its own records

All linear programs were either simulcast on Peacock or arrived there the next day And when it comes to the streamer’s original content, the Nov 23 debut of “Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin” marks its biggest ever comedy launch, though exact numbers weren’t provided by NBCU Previously, that achievement belonged to “Killing It” starring Craig Robinson

An obvious highlight of the holiday weekend was the 89th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which this year featured a performance by Mariah Carey. With 27 million viewers across the NBCairing and the simulcast on Peacock, it was NBCU’s biggest entertainment telecast of the 2022 23 TV season so far both overall and within the adults 18 49 demographic. And while exact viewership on Peacock wasn’t available, NBCU says that this was the streamer’s most popular “simulstream” event ever.

The National Dog Show by Purina, which also aired on NBC on Thanksgiving Day, was viewed by 11 million people and follows the parade as the No. 2 biggest entertainment telecast in 18 49 and in total viewers. Football reached new highs as well, with the New England Patriots vs Minnesota Vikings game bringing in 26 million viewers the second most watched primetime Thanksgiving game on record, and a 24% jump from last year’s Thanksgiving game And with 20 8 million viewers, the Green Bay Packers vs Philadelphia Eagles game on Nov 27 was one of the two most watched Thanksgiving weekend games since 2015

With the FIFA World Cup happening during the fall as opposed to the traditional summer tournament, Telemundo’s coverage brought in 16.3 million viewers throughout the holiday weekend, with the top games including Argentina vs. Mexico, Brazil vs. Serbia and Spain vs. Germany.

In late night news, both “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “Late Night With Seth Meyers” had their highest total viewership in three years on Thanksgiving, with 3.4 million and 1.7 million viewers, respectively. “The Tonight Show” also had its highest 18 49 viewership in three years.

When the creators and showrunners of “Wednesday,” Al Gough and Miles Millar (“Smallville”), began developing their lead character, they didn’t want to follow the typical shy to confident arc of teenage female protagonists The two men each have two teenage daughters. They knew better.“Wednesday starts strong and stays that way,” Millar said. “She’s unapologetic, fearless, smart, weird it’s very rare to see a female teen character who’s that sure of herself.”

After writing the first four episodes, they had only one director in mind: Burton, who had passed on the “Addams Family” movie in 1991 because of a scheduling conflict.

“We thought he probably wouldn’t even read it,” Gough said of Burton, who hadn’t directed a television series since the 1980s “We thought we’d have higher odds of winning the Powerball ”

To their surprise, Burton called them four days after receiving the script for the first episode.

“It brought up memories of my school days,” Burton, who also served as an executive producer, said in a recent video interview from Los Angeles “The characters were the reason I wanted to do it; I didn’t have the burning desire to do, necessarily, television.”

But bringing their collective vision to fruition was going to require the perfect Wednesday. They auditioned hundreds of actresses, but Ortega brought to the character the empathy they were looking for. “She’s like a silent film actress,” Burton said. “She emotes with her eyes.”

“Tim wanted someone to walk by and think I was a mannequin,” Ortega said. “He told me to act like I had a stack of books or a teacup on my head. I got great posture out of it ”

But he was also remarkably hands off when it came to other elements, Ortega said, allowing her the freedom to arrive at her own interpretation of the character.

On Friday, the highly anticipated and probably most talked about film of the year, Don't Worry Darling hit cinemas. Florence Pugh, who plays the lead role of Alice, alongside Harry Styles as her husband Jack, took to Instagram to celebrate the film's release, expressing how grateful she was to be a part of the whole experience.

Sharing BTS snaps of different sets, locations, and cast members including a shot of her and director Olivia Wilde in character the 26 year old wrote, "It's here.. and ready to be seen. @dontworrydarling is in cinemas! We met so many talented people, visited some insane locations, worked hard in the desert dust and looked good whilst doing so." To which she then thanked the glam team,

The actress then went on to thank the viewers, writing "all those who have bought tickets and those who have already seen it," before talking about the immense lengths that actually go into making a film.

"Whenever I watch massive impressive movie moments on massive screens I always remind myself that there is a boom just inches from the frame I'm watching," she said. "Or marks on the floor just below the actors waists. It's crazy to think that each set up and scene takes a large portion of a day to execute, and on this one.. there was a lot to execute! Explosions, car chases, cocktail balancing, underwater sequences, running, drinking, more running.."

Adding that she "will always be grateful" to have been able to take part in such an "epic story on such a large scale to shoot, all while during peak Covid times," Pugh ended her emotional tribute with, "To all of you who helped make this, your dedication and love was seen daily thank you."

Independent Spirit Awards – Mia

Goth Nominated for Best Lead Performance in ‘Pearl’

One of this year’s standout actors on the genre scene is unquestionably Mia Goth, who essentially pulled triple duty across Ti West’s X and Pearl. Goth played the final girl and the elderly villain in the slasher movie X and then later played the young version of X‘s villain in Pearl, delivering three very different performances that have solidified her as a big time star.

While we wait to see if Goth will be getting any Oscar consideration for her incredible performance in Pearl, let’s not forget that the Oscars aren’t the only game in town.

Announced this morning, Mia Goth has been nominated for Best Lead Performance at theIndependent Spirit Awards, recognized for her leading role in Ti West’s prequel Pearl!

Independent Spirit Awards winners will be chosen by members of Film Independent and will be announced on March 4, 2023. Television nominees will be announced on December 13.

'Bones And All' Featurette:

Timothée Chalamet

Bones and All star Timothée Chalamet has opened up on what drew him to the role of cannibalistic lover Lee in his latest movie. The film has roused interest for its horror romance fusion which chronicles the story of Lee and Maren (Taylor Russell), two teenagers on the fringes of society that are forced to navigate identity, self acceptance and a mutual addiction of consuming the flesh of humans. Whilst the movie has primarily garnered attention for its gory concept, its deeper themes are something the cast has consistently drawn attention to Speaking about his character in a featurette, Academy Award nominee Chalamet said: “I was moved by Lee and Maren’s story, carrying something that you carry shame with or can’t quite make sense of I was attracted to this character Lee because I felt he had figured out how to game the system to survive with this condition." The actor went on to explain how Lee was the first opportunity he's had to take his own experiences and develop that as part of his character. Throughout the behind the scenes video, audiences are given an insight into Chalamet's autonomy in the process as he works through scenes with director Luca Guadagnino.

"His biggest vulnerability is true love, is kindness so when he finds that with Maren in those moments where you’re able to fall for someone else, look more closely in the mirror and I think what he sees is terrifying."

The Crown Will Return for a 6th Season, After All 12

In January of 2020, The Crown's showrunner Peter Morgan announced that season five would be the final chapter of the series. "At the outset I had imagined The Crown running for six seasons but now that we have begun work on the stories for season five it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop," Morgan said, per the Hollywood Reporter "I’m grateful to Netflix and Sony for supporting me in this decision."

But now, the original plan to run for six seasons is back in place.

"As we started to discuss the storylines for series five, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons," Morgan said, confirming the news alongside Netflix to the Hollywood Reporter.

Cindy Holland, Netflix's VP of original content also commented: "The Crown keeps raising the bar with each new season. We can’t wait for audiences to see the upcoming fourth season, and we’re proud to support Peter’s vision and the phenomenal cast and crew for a sixth and final season."

ANYA TAYLOR-JOY

I make it a priority to have an hour to myself in the morning I’m usually around a lot of people, so I need at least an hour to charge up for the day If there is any opportunity to steam wherever I am, I will be in the steam room

I always had very long blond hair, so conditioner was a big part of my life I would come out of the ocean as a kid and cry for hours as my mom untangled my hair Now I absolutely love Olaplex I use the shampoo, conditioner, treatment and then put in the leave in I always use the conditioner root to tip. People tell you not to put the conditioner on the roots, but I don’t believe that. If you’re as blond as I am Tracey Cunningham does my color you need to put it on the roots Just make sure you rinse it all out

In my day to day life, I really don’t wear makeup Growing up, I definitely went through this very short lived phase where I attempted to do smoky eyeliner I looked like a raccoon I leave that to the professionals now And I do love a lip Lips, I can do Otherwise, I tend to go more matte especially with face masks. I have this trick: I apply, then blot it and then reapply again when I’m there. This way you’re not getting the stickiness inside the mask

QUIET MORNING TIME HAIR AND SKIN FOR THE DAY LOVING A LIP ON HOW TO SOOTHE HERSELF 14

A bath is an important thing for me at night Actually we’re a pretty big bath family. My mom loves a bath. When I was little, I remember we would take one together I make my baths kind of fancy It’s very Valentine’s Day but just for me! I love to cover my body in coconut or almond oil before I get into the bath Sometimes I mix in drops of lavender, rose or patchouli essential oils.

I’ll light some candles I love Valkiria from Overose and Byredocandles in Tree House and Bibliothèque The end of day is about tending to that part of yourself that maybe isn’t given a lot of attention during normal day to day interaction, and just asking what you need right now. For me, it’s 1950s jazz, a nice bath and a solid hour of reading

I’ve been experimenting with essential oils It’s something I’ve been doing since I was 17. I like to make a scent uniquely mine but also tethered to an experience, so if I smell that scent again, I can associate that smell with, say, my 17 year old teenage self

I usually pick a fragrance to wear with a character For “Queen’s Gambit,” Beth actually smelled like me. She is the character I gave the most of myself to For Beth, I did rose, some patchouli, sandalwood, pink peppercorn and a few drops of vodka Our girl was going through it I really believe in the job I am doing to give that person life. It’s important that their voice is different, the way they move is different and that they smell different Then you’re creating a real person.

For “The Northman,” we were shooting in Ireland The green there is unlike any green you’ll see The character I played is very connected to nature. One of my favorite things about shooting there was how much time I spent outside I would swim in the Irish Sea. I burned a lot of Irish moss around the house. I smelled like that Irish moss and sea salt

I trained as a dancer until I was 15. When I finished dancing, I was quite rebellious. I didn’t want to be disciplined anymore. For a long time I was eating comfort food mine is butter and cheese. But my job is so fast paced it’s so adrenaline fueled that my body burns it up.

NOW I REALLY, REALLY LOVE BOXING IT’S SUCH AN INTERESTING WAY OF MEDITATING FOR ME IF YOU’RE NOT ENTIRELY FOCUSED ON WHAT YOU’RE DOING, YOU’RE GOING TO GET HIT YOU BEGIN CLASS, AND SUDDENLY, AN HOUR LATER, IT’S “HOW DID I GET HERE?” BECAUSE TIME HAS JUST FLOWN BY

I started doing the Wim Hof breathing method when I was on a film that required me to be exposed to very cold temperatures. I love that man I only know him from his YouTube videos I call him Uncle Wim

I’m trying to learn to meditate. Here’s a random challenge for people to try: Go on a roller coaster and try not screaming I just did it, and you know how they snap the photograph? My friends screamed their faces off, and I looked like Yoda. That roller coaster ride was game changing Everything is moving so fast, and your only job is to keep calm the center of the storm Your breathing deepens in a way you’ve never experienced before I have never felt more calm It’s a very random tip, but just give it a go.

FUN FACTS YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT

Yellowstone Is #1

Yellowstone is the most watched TV show on basic cable, unless you count Sunday Night Football and Thursday Night Football. Strangely, Monday Night Football rates lower than Yellowstone, and the next most watched scripted show is NCIS.

Kevin Costner Sure Does Love a Western Kevin Costner did not grow up on a ranch, but he's been inspired by the western genre since he saw How the West Was Won as a kid. He also played a cowboy in Wyatt Earp, Open Range, Hatfields & McCoys, and he's about to direct a series of western films called Horizon.

The End Is Coming

Sheridan has not confirmed how many seasons he has planned, but he definitely has a plan. As he told Cowboys & Indians, "I know exactly how it ends and it's working towards that ending."

The Ranch Is Real

The Yellowstone Dutton Ranch is a real place called Chief Joseph Ranch, located in Darby, Montana. It's named after the Nez Perce chief who led his people across the land in 1877, and was run by a glass tycoon and federal judge until it became a guest ranch, run by the glass tycoon's wife and daughters.

GOSSIPGIRL

THE REBOOT IS BACK

It's hard to think of a revival more highly anticipated than the Gossip Girl reboot, which premiered last July on HBO Max The numbers stacked up to expectations per Deadline, the show became the most watched HBO Max original series over its debut weekend The first episode saw viewers in 555,000 U.S. households. Gossip Girl, fittingly, took over social media, too, garnering the No. 1 trending spot on Twitter on its premiere day and gaining around 15 billion impressions on TikTok.

Such initial notoriety prompted questions as to whether the series will extend beyond just one season. Here is everything we know so far about the Gossip Girl reboot's season two. The series has officially been renewed for season two.

In September 2021, HBO Max announced that the Gossip Girl reboot will indeed have a second season Just two weeks before the premiere of season one part two, the Gossip Girl Twitter account shared a two minute long teaser clip, which promises just as much drama as the season's first part

HOW BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER PAYS TRIBUTE TO

CHADWICK BOSEMAN

The biggest question surrounding Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the sequel to the 2018 superhero blockbuster, was how it was going to handle the unexpected death of its real life star Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020 after a private battle with colon cancer.

Boseman played King T'Challa, a.k.a. the Black Panther, in the Oscar nominated original as well as three other films in the MCU After Wakanda Forever opens with T'Challa's off screen death from an unspecified illness, the late star's first appearance arrives in Marvel's iconic title card: The silent sequence, which has historically featured a montage of various Marvel superheroes before ending on the Marvel Studios logo, is replaced, powerfully and poignantly, with one paying tribute solely to Boseman The unexpected change elicited cheers and applause at the film's star studded Oct. 26 premiere and telegraphed the undercurrent of grief and remembrance that runs throughout the film.

"It was helpful that we were honoring someone who we came to know through the work," says director Ryan Coogler, who struggled with continuing the franchise without his friend and star. And it's that work that is front and center, not only in the title sequence, but in another Boseman appearance in Wakanda Forever, during an emotional mid credits scene where Shuri (Letitia Wright), having taken over the Black Panther mantle, comes to terms with her brother's death. Her sorrow is emphasized by a series of flashbacks of T'Challa.

(Boseman previously played T'Challa in Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame ) "I always carried him in every scene," Wright said in EW's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever cover story last month. "I always would ask, 'Bro, what do you think?' and just try to keep a spiritual connection. He meant everything to me, and he's the reason why I'm here He picked me to be his sister, so I couldn't have done this journey without him "It's tricky, balancing an emotional farewell to a late star while forging ahead with a superhero franchise. But Coogler's cinematic tributes hit just the right, understated notes, echoing the on set energy of Boseman himself "He was exceptionally gifted at knowing when enough was enough and how to keep everybody happy, how to keep us all balanced," Coogler said at EW's Around the Table, reunited with Wright, Lupita Nyong'o (Nakia), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Tenoch Huerta (Namor), Mabel Cadena (Namora), and Alex Livinalli (Attuma) "For me as a director working with him, he was very much like having a coach on the field

On days where I was working with him, I knew those days would go great because he would bring balance for the set."

Adds Gurira, who was pleased with the treatment of her former co star in the script: "The beauty of seeing how it was really intertwined in this narrative, [the] grief and loss and healing And within that, the honoring of Chadwick, which was a very great comfort to see on the page."

JAMES CAMERON AND THE CAST OF ‘AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER’ HOLD THEIR BREATH

IT’S NOT EASY TO FOLLOW UP MAKING THE HIGHEST GROSSING MOVIE EVER, BUT JAMES, YOU’VE NOW HAD TO DO IT TWICE. WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM THE AFTERMATH OF “TITANIC” THAT COULD BE APPLIED AS YOU FOLLOW UP “AVATAR”?

JAMES CAMERON You can’t think in those terms. If I brought that into every decision I make, then it’s like, “OK, is the color that’s going to go on the back of this Ilu going to make the difference of $10 million global gross?” I have to remind myself constantly to just have fun and enjoy the day because otherwise you’re competing with yourself

WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MAKING THE FIRST AND SECOND FILM?

ZOE SALDAÑA There were many more challenges I was younger in the first installment, I didn’t have children Now I have three children

SIGOURNEY, HOW DID YOU REACT WHEN YOU LEARNED YOU’D BE PLAYING A MOODY, MOTION CAPTURED 14 YEAR OLD?

SIGOURNEY WEAVER I remember when Jim finally made the decision, he said, “You can do this because you’re so immature. Nobody knows this but me, but I know that you’re just 14 at heart.” And I think Jim is about 16, so he’s not off by much! But it was incredibly exciting to set loose your inner 14 year old and to refine it, because being 14 is not all fun. I think we all remember how excruciating it can sometimes be and how unjust things seem in the moment If you’re playing someone as sensitive as a 14 year old girl who’s been uprooted, that’s a whole world of adventure you get to have as this character

20

WHEN IT CAME TO HOLDING YOUR BREATH, WHAT WERE YOUR PERSONAL BESTS?

SALDAÑA I’m very competitive, but we had an Oscar winning actress in our cast that did seven minutes.

WAS THAT KATE WINSLET?

WEAVER Jesus, yeah, seven minutes.

DID YOU HAVE ANY IDEA SHE WAS CAPABLE OF THAT?

CAMERON No, and she didn’t either! But Kate’s a demon for prep, so she latched onto the free diving as something that she could build her character around. Kate’s character is someone who grew up underwater as an ocean adapted Na’vi they’re so physically different from the forest Na’vi, that we’d almost classify them as a subspecies. So she had to be utterly calm underwater, and it turned out that she was a natural.

CAMERON In the first film, you wind up with a sense of moral outrage about the destruction of a single tree. We have something very similar that takes place in “Avatar: The Way of Water,” and from what we’ve seen from test audiences, people feel that same sense of moral outrage. Does that translate in some tiny way when people come out of the theater into the way they think about the world, about nature, about our responsibility to the environment? Maybe, I don’t know.

SALDAÑA I got almost up to five minutes. That’s a big accomplishment, you guys.

CAMERON Five minutes is huge Sig did six and a half

SINCE THE FIRST FILM CAME OUT, ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES HAVE BECOME EVEN MORE URGENT. HOW DOES “AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER” SPEAK TO THAT?

WORTHINGTON In the first movie, Jake Sully says, “Open your eyes. Sooner or later, you have to wake up.” That’s what he does in the movie he wakes up to the world and this other culture and I think that “Avatar: The Way of Water” is about protecting all of that.

WEAVER You opened our eyes in the first one, but the second one, because it deals with the oceans and we’re having a crisis with the oceans, I feel it’s so much more transformative. If our goal is to become part of the World Surf League campaign and protect 30 percent of the ocean by 2030, I truly feel that this film is going to advance that goal. And it’s enhanced by the fact that the 3 D will absolutely put you on Pandora, in the water.
