Eyeing Success with a Small Business App

With the humongous number of apps out there, entrepreneurs and small businesses in Silicon Valley California have a lot to cover before getting their app idea to take off. Cutting through the over 700,000 apps apiece on Google Play and Apple Apps store and a steady Windows app inflow is, after all, easier said than done. Then again, small business apps built on utility almost always turn out marketplace hits. Take Social Dial, for example. The mobile app, designed to make Linkedln users more conversant with fellow profiles, allows a user to call up another without having to know his or her personal contact details. As a mobile app, Social Dial has in excess of 50,000 downloads now, and if that’s not enough, it’s the cornerstone of a hugely successful conference-calling app, CrowCall. The app allows users to call in and join group conversations. Further, only the initiator needs the app installed; other users simply join in — with or without the app. Launched last spring, CrowdCall garnered an average of over 100,000 weekly users of the free and paid mobile app versions. Revenues from premium versions hit the roof just four months into the launch when figures scaled $100,000. The app has scored on both commercial and consumer usage, with an outstanding feature turning it instantly into a small business hit: the originator gets to rule the roost on sending out invites and access, which straightaway rules out unsolicited access. Small businesses are always on the lookout for affordable and secure communication providers and CrowdCall scores on both counts. Innovations like CrowddCall pave their way into a virtually stifled app world riding on value alone. The ‘bells and whistles’ approach, at best, boosts visibility, but isn’t the ultimate thrust to success. For gaining traction, your small business app has got to be rich on the two big fronts: utility and purpose. Keep in mind there are apps aplenty out there and app stores aren’t exactly craving apps. In a world where apps provide manifold opportunities, no business—small or big—can stay out for long. What’s needed is a value-driven idea manifested innovatively and refreshingly, and any small business can vie for making it big. Thinking apps? Visit SDI to gain the forefront.
