Site Analysis

Cultural Complex A.D. 03 This project is a cultural center containing different functions such as library, exhibition ,art classes and other flexible spaces which are defined according to the function which occurs inside them. The site is placed in one of the poor and condensed districts of Tehran. The people were mostly immigrants of other small cities. The center’s design started with finding the common qualities of the people’s manner. According to the studies the people living in this area are so connected to the open space. They also spend so much time out of their houses in small groups talking, playing games and other activities. This assembling is common in different age groups.

Cultural complex A.D. 03 the complex shows a certain reaction to all the elements in surroundings and is considered as the final piece of a puzzle (in a socialfunctional way) which should be added to the district to provide appropriate spaces for small gatherings. These spaces are surrounded by cultural spaces so that common people involve whit actual cultural activities .all the spaces are connected to outdoor directly and have been positioned in the site providing concise yards in between them . the complex also embraces the two existing old trees in the site and manipulates them in order to qualify the little yards.

School of dramatic arts A.D. 04 In designing the faculty of dramatic arts being artistic and dramatic is of great importance there for the forms created in this project are actually adapted from an artistic aspect of the function that they hold each. The foyer a large and neutral space holding all spaces together. The studios and the library keeping a distance from the main entrance and facing to the green space in the south in completely simple forms. And at last the performance saloon which is located in the most outstanding point of the site for being seen appropriately. The buildings arrangement is so impressed by the existing trees in the site and around it and each space directly faces to the green spaces.

Design Process

The performance hall consists of two distinct sections. the main performance hall and the rehearsal hall. These two parts are separated by a vertical element which shows the play on its screen.th screen can be seen from the main street. The other buildings which form a dynamic and unified whole are designed in an outstanding contrast with the performance hall.

Design Process

Residential Complex Houses are compressed together and narrow streets and alleys cross them .Dense urbanism of Nemat-Abad has left no space for diversity and Excitement both visually and spatially. Social communications are limited to narrow alleys. A vast open space opens the Views and provides a place for gathering and communication. It brings diversity to boring skyline of Nemat-Abad. This Continuous Green space helps the area to breath. A line of shops exists in edges of lot. This shops have to be retained in Complex`s proposal. Courtyards -like a green plane- sits on the roof of commercial band.

Units Typology

Unification of units

Residential Complex Houses in Nemat-abad Consist of two main parts: Public, private & service. Different activities take place in separate rooms which are linked together by a specific courtyard. These rooms are flexible enough to provide an appropriate space for distinct activities. This flexibility is essential because of dramatic changes in a typical family in Nemat Abad. So we recognized two main principles for our design: 1. Separate cells in order to provide flexibility 2. Dividing House into four main parts: private, public, court, service 3. Designing different open spaces in order to link different units

Spaces Organization

Residential Complex Service space (including Kitchens, W.C, Stair cases and Ducts) is located in middle line of blocks to serve both Public and Private Spaces. Living Spaces - Public & Private - is positioned in exterior sides in order to gain Light and Connect to outdoors. Each Unit is organized by the Main order of blocks (Private-Service-Public). Different Unit types are formed to adapt with buildings program. Regularly in multi-storey buildings each unit has an exclusive terrace which is usually small and impractical. In this Complex the Neighbors Share a large common terrace which provides communication between neighbors.

Sabzevar bazaar

Designed by: Sohrab Rahimi and Babak Soleimani Honourable mention among over 250 projects In this project we were supposed to design a bazaar combined with a garden inspiring from Iranian traditional gardens. the whole area was about 10000 square meters. We decided to locate 3 powerful elements on the axe (exactly like traditional gardens in Iran) and then design all the commercial spaces facing to this axe. This complex consists of new spaces a traditional organization.

Ardebil tower Designed by:Sohrab Rahimi and Babak Soleimani 5th place The project locates in one of the north-western cities of Iran. this competition held for designing the most eminent residential tower of the whole city. The tower consists of 25 stories which develops an Outstanding dominance over the whole city. The project is based on an octagon plan adapted from “Safio Aldin Ardabili’’ an ancient tower in Ardabil. The beneath stories are doublefacade and the top stories benefit from great terraces facing to the city.

Serlachius Museum The following decisions has been maid during the design process: 1-first we distinguished the ideal locations for the spaces. The best location for the museum is nearby the old building facing the lake. The recreational spaces can work efficiently in the isolated isle. all the buildings are located in a way that minimum number of trees be cut. 2-these separate spaces are attached together by a string which contains a substantial function. A path that provides the movement all over the project. The path, in fact is the main element of the whole project

Serlachius Museum 3-themain body of the project consists of two separated parts. The ground floor containing the foyer and the official spaces is a transparent space filled with isolated solid forms that function differently. the 3 galleries in the first floor are separated by the dynamic path. These tree galleries that are isolated from outside connect to the old building with a bridge so that the galleries in the old building come after the galleries in the new one.

The Flexible Skin This project was represented in the Shahid Beheshti university exhibition in 2009.a flexible skin is a surface capable of stimulating different experimental forms, for this reason we used a kind of net which provides a network of points to locate different forces in different directions. The forces affect in two main directions, upward and downward .to provide the force source we used two elements, first the weights to provide the downward force and second the balloons filled with helium to provide the upward force. depending on the location and the number of forces diverse forms can be shaped.

Perspective

The Conscious Surface In this structure, paper flexible pixels reform and produce a stable dome. The paper dome is 5.5 meters in diameter and consists of 80 paper pixels in 5 types which are temporarily attached together by 500 pincers. The experimental steps in finding from: 1-Finding the approximate shape of the dome by means of computer modeling and building a 1:2 model of the dome. The type of the paper was a great concern in all the steps. 2-design a simple machine in order to make the favourable and precise folds in the paper 3-Researching about the kind of joints

The Paper House This project was represented in both the university exhibition and Mosalla (the permanent place for exhibitions in Tehran). The most important feature of this structure is it’s sustainability. This structure can also be erected so easily since it consists of different pieces which attached to one another by deployable joints. The structure is 6 meters in both length and width and consists of three important sections: 1-the roof: the roof consists of vertical and horizontal beams. These beams hold 36 paper pixels. 2-the wall: the wall is constructed with 80 paper pipes attached to one another by rope. 3-the floor: the floor consisted of 36 cubical MDF pixels located nearby each other .the wooden pieces are joined to the floor pixels in order to stabilize the paper wall.

The Minimum Surface Minimum surface is the final stage presentation of a three stage experimental form finding exhibition . The exhibition is about “ Modern Membrane Structures” which are very popular and mostly used around the world nowadays. Introduction to modern membrane structures is actually displayed through a full scale building example. The full scale structure is square in plan (3.7m*3.7m) with height of 3.2 m. This system consists of 2 distinct parts: 1-Steel space-frame structure made up of steel tubes with fabricated end connections and system of cable structures. 2- A PVC coated polyester membrane. The pattern which was found through simple experimental form finding such as soap bubble and simple tensile fabric models. 3D Max was later used to further refine and obtain the cutting patterns. A ½ scale model was built based on this later cutting pattern. The membrane was calculated, cut and later tested by “ Diba institute of Tensile structure”.


Oyster’s Geometry

The Oyster Project The purpose of this research is to analyse complex geometrical forms found in seashells through mathematical formulation and to use their potential in architectural design through generative modeling. In this project seashells are modeled by defining a special parametric spiral curvature using grasshopper software. By changing the values of the parameters involved in the model a variety of seashell forms are generated. for the ease of construction and to create an architectural space the “ Bivalve seashell� was chosen as the final model. Finally by changing the involved parameters and introducing a new set of parameters a pavilion was designed and constructed.


Mahmudabad Residential This project is located in a small town in north of Iran. The building is designed for the mayor of the town. The building has not been erected yet.

B-street Residential This project is located in Tehran ,The building includes 6 stories and 10 residential units. The project is now being built and it will be finished in about a year.

Free hand Drawings These drawing have been produced during several trips to historical points of Iran. The entire drawings have been drawn in few minutes with either pencil or rapid technique. some of these drawings have been represented in exhibitions held in university.

Architectural paintings 01

These two paintings are adapted from the drawings of traditional architects. These drawings were used to decorate precious buildings such as mosques. The paintings use exactly the same formulas and drawing process as the traditional ones.

This painting has been painted from “Shamsol Emare”-the most prominent mansion belonging to Naseri era in Tehran-in two days.

this painting depicts my imagination of the folding concept. Several surfaces carrying the same value intertwine to shape a continuous whole. There is no advert point in this painting no excellence, the whole is the only fact which matters.
