FeaturingArtist My career is based in Visual Communication/Graphic Designer, specifically layout design and photography. I began my career as a photographer in my country when I was a teenager. Every event in my family, I used to be the photographer new year, wedding, family gathering etc. When I started college I was sure I was going to be a photographer but after taking all the art classes I expressed myself good at layout design. “My dad was my inspiration, he is magnificent at taking pictures, and if he is not taking the picture that he wanted he would let my family sit in one position for hours.”
Once Henry Rollins an American spoken word artist, writer, journalist had said “Being an artist is dragging innermost feelings out, giving a piece of yourself, no matter in which art form, in which medium”. I love my career, for me capturing peoples’
happiest moments and leaving them memories of their precious times of their lives is my main goal. Being a Graphic Designer allows me to explore who I am as an artist. When I am designing layout or taking pictures I feel more confident and I can feel that this is what I am meant to be. Designing a layout is very relaxing and at the same time it could be really frustrating. When I am designing, each project I start out with same way. First of all, I think about who is my audience and what is my goal, what I am trying to show also do I have good knowledge about what I am advertising or making. In my opinion rushing is always a bad idea for designing and photography. Additionally, last but least I care deeply about doing my projects on; I believe that when we are working in this big industry everything is a competition.

Barbara Bryja Barbara Bryja is a 25 years old digital Artist from Chicago area. She was born and grew up in Poland, where she had contact with the art for the first time. Entire grammar school she had taken all different art classes as a requirement. Even though the art classes were required throughout the entire grammar school Barb enjoyed every one them.Ever since she was little she learned how to draw and build art using different kinds of material. When she was struggled with something her father always helped to put things together. Her father is the one with the artistic soul in the family, he can create everything out of wood. When she was 15 years old her parents brought her to USA, where “ Photoshop is the software that she enjoy working with the most, but she also can work with multiple other programs like: Adobe Illustrator,Adobe Indesign, Corel painter 12, and Corel Draw.”
she lost contact with art for entire high school. Seven years ago she decided to change her job, and there for the first time she had contact with photoshop. Beginnings were not so easy for her, but now photoshop is her best friend. She’s currently a Digital Art student at Moraine Valley, she will be done with her Associate degree by the end of fall 2013. She, as an artist, experienced several different forms of art like: fine art, digital art, printmaking, photography and sculpture, but she found herself most comfortable in Digital Art. Photoshop is the software that she enjoy working with the most, but she also can work with multiple other programs like: Adobe Illustrator,Adobe Indesign, Corel painter 12, and Corel Draw. Even though the Photoshop is the program she loves working with the most, she also enjoys projects that are require working with multiple programs.

Barbara Bryja Title: Windy City Size 9x12 Medium: Digital Another name for the city of Chicago is the “Windy City,” and I always wondered why. Now, the answer is so clear to me, after experiencing the city for myself. The “Windy city" was the last piece from the Chicago theme. Instead of using illustrator, I was using Corel painter 12 and Adobe Photoshop CS6. It took me forever to finish this piece, because I repainted every single image I use for it in Corel Painter. Photoshop was used for finishing the piece by pulling all the paintings together.

The purpose of this piece was to show the lonely, even depressing moments when there is nobody to be with or talk to. To complete this piece I edited three different images in photoshop. I primarily us masking tool to cut out parts and filters to add more sadness to it.

Barbara Bryja Title: Paul Size:11x13 Medium: Digital “Recreate a movie poster..”, sounds easy to do, but when it comes down to it, it so. Using Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Corel Painter 12, I created the poster for movie “Paul”. I wanted to show more clearly who IS Paul from the movie. I started the poster with painting Paul in Corel Painter. In Photoshop I created the background using different filters. Photoshop was also very helpful for pulling together the whole composition.

Barbara Bryja Title: Chitown Size: 9x12 Medium: Digital “Chitown” is the piece that took me the most time to create. Choosing what I wanted on it and laying it out was not so hard. The worst part, I think, was the text that read “Chitown”, because I had to create some of the letters for it. The characters, used in the text, are made out of letters from a photo of the Chicago Theater sign. I was mostly using Photoshop to edit photos, and to lay everything out. There are a couple of barely visible lines, in the piece, that were created in Illustrator.

Samantha Begeska
Artwork
Samantha Begeske is a 21-year-old college student at Moraine Valley Community College and is earning her A.A.S degree in Digital Art and Design. She is a mixed media artist and works with paint, print, and digital. When she got her first camera, the baby she nanny’s for became her subject. As he got older she has captured every precious moment in that baby’s life and she wanted to help others capture those same moments. Due to her passion for photography, Samantha has started her own photography business in 2012. She is a Chicago land Lifestyle, Special Event, Portrait and Landscape photographer. She is more towards lifestyle photography but she doesn’t mind doing others. Her passion is capturing children in their natural state. Looking at all her work, everything is inspired by her friends, family, but mostly the children around her. Samantha always says, “You can rarely get a true expression from normal portrait photos. The true and real expressions are
in action photos.” She is also a nanny while doing her photography business and going to school. The children she nannies and babysits are her inspiration. Her family and friends are very supportive in her work and help her whenever she needs it. Samantha does most of her photography outdoors to capture the natural beauty in life. She loves that she can capture an image and it will look the same in person as it does on screen. Samantha always says, “You can rarely get a true expression from normal portrait photos. The true and real expressions are in action photos.”
As her business continues to grow, she would like to explore and add print in with her photography. For example, making your digital photo an etching from plastic or a screen print onto anything the customer would like. During school, Samantha would use her photos and make them a print in almost every medium.

There were numerous family field trips to The Art Institute of Chicago and her bookshelves are lined with books about famous artists given to her by aunts and uncles. From early on, Vincent Van Gough has been one of her favorite artists.
The blending of person and nature in Sue’s artwork is meant to address the feeling of separation from environment that some people feel and thus close the gap between humanity and nature.
From high school she attended The American Academy of Art in Chicago where she discovered her love of live figure drawing. In 2012, she returned to her formal education and is completing an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Digital Art and Design the summer of 2013.

Becka’s inspirations come from comic books, video games, computer games, superheroes and SyFy. She is also big into fantasy because to her, it is an escape from reality and a way of seeing different things in a new perspective. Comic books and video games drag her into that story line and sometimes just spark up and give her ideas for a future project to do. Music is also an inspiration in her artwork because the rhythm and lyrics of a song helps her unwind and just lets her imagination take control and create stories or images from it.
She sketches her ideas out before sitting down and starting any project. She feels that it is helpful because she can go back and erase parts that do not look correct, edit things in and out of the ideas, and get the colors set. Becka likes to be organized when it comes to her work so she does not stress herself out when she starts a project. She also likes to get other people’s opinions to see their point of view on her work. Becka tries to explore with her work by using different print options. She has screen printed a few of her prints just to have the different textures and to see how different each look of the same project can be.

This diptych photo is an example of some of the things I do with lifestyle photos. I love this style of photo, because it is more natural and not as forced.

These photos were taken in an antique shop I found. I was really lucky to have the permission to take photos here, and I love the way they turned out. I used only natural light from the windows in the antique shop.
