This year, in addition to our traditional workshops, we have made a special effort to include a focus on new technologies in order to help you prepare for the challenges of teaching in the digital classroom. The Macmillan team will be there to give you a warm welcome and will present our new materials, including digital coursebooks as well as materials for the bilingual classroom and other book-based resources.

Sessions
Using stories (Primary)
This is a session about using stories in the classroom. First we’ll look at why stories are so interesting for young learners and then what makes a good story. Finally, we’ll look at some activities to use before, during and after the story, using some favourite Macmillan storybooks.

ICT is playing an ever greater role in English language teaching. Even the books and the board are becoming digitalised! This session aims to help teachers to meet the challenge of integrating the digital medium into their classes. We’ll be looking at some practical, pedagogicallysound ways of exploiting digital books, the IWB and a selection of cloud computing tools such as Word Magnets, Toondoo, Glogster, Wordle, Voki, XTimeline, and Mind Mapper. We will also demonstrate how to set up a simple PBWorks wiki to provide a platform for students to work on and showcase their work.
The interactive classroom: a presentation of Macmillan digital materials (Infants & Primary) In this session we will use an interactive digital whiteboard to present a range of Macmillan materials for the Infant and Primary classroom. The session will provide even the most technophobic teacher with a solid introduction to this latest teaching tool as we use it to look at course-specific digital books, generic materials for CLIL and online practice and resource materials for students and teachers.
The interactive classroom: a presentation of Macmillan digital materials (ESO & Bachillerato) In an age of rapid change, keeping up with technological developments in education is important. This session will provide an introduction to the latest classroom tool, the touch-sensitive interactive whiteboard. Using customdesigned online and offline materials, we will demonstrate how this innovative board works in practice and how it can provide language teachers with a range of new possibilities that teachers and students will enjoy using.
