How Clean Is Your Tile? N
ATURAL Stone, Porcelain and Ceramic tiles are beautiful to look at and are worth every penny of your investment! but what happens when they get dirty? Do they lose a little of their ‘wow factor’? Are you tired of getting down on your hands and knees to scrub grout lines or have you just given up? Well, fear not for the Hampshire Tile Doctor is here to help. They offer free advice and free quotations on how to clean and restore any sort of natural stone, be it Marble, Travertine, Limestone, Terracotta, Slate, Victorian tiles, etc. Imagine your natural limestone entrance hall floor tiles, your terracotta or slate kitchen floor tiles, or your ceramic bathroom wall tiles, even your granite worktops and splash-backs being made to look as if they were freshly laid. Also, have you ever noticed the difference in shade of colour of the grout at the very edge of the room, which should be almost as new and the grout in the middle of the floor? It can be surprising how, even with regular mopping, the grout always looks dirty. Why? Because the grout channel attracts dirt which mopping often glides over. So why not let The Tile Doctor clean the grout so it looks new again? The old days of mops and toothbrushes are gone forever! And what if the grout is also badly stained? No problem, they can even re-colour the grout for you from a range of subtle colours. After the cleaning process they apply a professional coating of an impregnating sealer, which sinks into the tile and/or grout and gives an invisible protective barrier that will leave your floors so much easier to clean. Sadly, some tile fitters never seal the tiles or grout they lay, which means you could damage your floor by spilling some everyday products you have in your kitchen or bathroom.
“Don’t Fret About Your Dirty Stone Or Ceramic Tile Floors… We Can Bring Them Back To Life.” YES!! Including Those Filthy Grout Lines - And They Can Apply A Sealer To Keep Them Looking That Great Longer!
Let the Tile Doctor clean and protect for you. Call now on 0800 695 695 9 or visit www.hampshiretiledoctor.co.uk, for a free ‘demo’!

New tuba kicks brass
A
Fareham brass band have been able to purchase a tuba with the help of a £2,695 grant from the Borough Council’s Community Funding programme.
Spinnaker Brass have bass players who can play the tuba but until recently had no instrument for them to practise or perform with. Last year the group placed 5th at the Regional finals, with the addition of the tuba’s extra low pitch, the band hope to be able to improve on their success. You can hear the band perform with the new instrument at Holy Rood Church, Stubbington on 6th December at a Christmas charity concert in aid of the Mayor of Fareham’s sponsored charities. Tickets, £7.50, are available from the Mayor, Councillor Norris, 02392 614257. Community Action Team Chairman for Fareham South, Councillor Trevor Howard said “Spinnaker Brass often plays to entertain and raise funds for local causes. They are deserving recipients of the community fund.” The Community Fund is available to support projects that benefit the local community or environment within the Borough of Fareham. Any resident, or organisation can apply for money for one off purchases from the Community Fund. New Park and Stride launched in Bursledon
P
upils at Bursledon Junior and Bursledon Church of England Infant Schools celebrated the launch of the new Park and Stride from the Lowford Centre that will help reduce car use for the journey to school.
The scheme is one of a number of Park and Strides that have been set up across the Borough as part of wider Eastleigh Borough Council school travel initiatives. It is hoped that the Park and Stride scheme will reduce traffic congestion around the schools and encourage children to have a healthy start to their day by walking some of the way to school. The pupils celebrated the launch by arriving in Lord Nelson themed fancy dress and walked to school from the Lowford Centre together with teachers, parents as well as representatives from the Borough and Parish Councils. Once at school the children were treated to a theatre show on the subject of Lord Nelson and his ship, The Elephant, which was built in Bursledon.

The schools were also presented with their Bronze STARS awards by Cabinet Member for Transport and Street Scene, Councillor David
He has his paws crossed that someone will offer him a very loving, secure home where he will be the only pet and get lots of attention, but he would be content to live with “older” children. If you would like this super boy as your friend and have a garden for him when settled, please contact 02380 435855.
Airey, for the work that had already been carried out to encourage more children to walk, scoot and use public transport to travel to school.
There are a number of cats in foster care, all longing for their loving forever home.
Councillor David Airey said “I was delighted to join so many children walking to school from the park and stride this morning. It is our hope that children and parents will choose to park at the Lowford Centre and walk to school to help cut congestion in Long Lane and get some healthy exercise in the process.”

f you have damage to your car, which you would like repaired, but to lose the car for days in a body shop would be inconvenient and you would prefer not to have it repaired outside your house, there is another way! Auto Brite specialise in minor car body repairs, and have the expertise to put your car back to the way it should be, with the least fuss and expense possible. They can repair splits and cracks in plastics, on cars and motorbikes, as well as any light panel damage, alloy wheel kerbing and anything else to any car exterior. They can also refurbish headlights, where the finish has deteriorated and may fail an MOT. They offer full paint work machine polishing to remove scratches and apply paint sealants to present your car in the best way possible, as well as making future cleaning easier. Their website and Facebook page have examples of the repairs they carry out day to day. The owner of the car in the pictures had been advised the only way to repair the damage was to supply, re-spray and fit a new bumper, which would have cost approximately ÂŁ500 and meant 3 to 4 days away. Auto Brite removed the dent, permanently repaired the split and re-sprayed half the bumper and front wing, all in less than a day and at half the price.

All the pictures will be judged by Santa and the winner will be invited to the Christmas Lights Switch On, where the local community come together to celebrate this special time of year.It always proves to be a popular event with a fantastic atmosphere.

EyeStyle Centre Opticians, don’t believe in giving you a ‘spare’ pair of specs, every pair they dispense has a primary purpose, they aren’t for keeping in the back of a dusty cupboard. Your second pair can be tinted prescription lenses, polarising lenses, even a nice clear pair to wear with a designer frame so you can alternate your look. They also want to dispel the myth that all spectacle lenses are the same. That’s simply not the case. They can vary so much in design, material, comfort, protection against glare and scratches and more importantly, overall quality. You may be able to get two cheap pairs of glasses, but they are cheap for a reason! Because they’re an independent optician, Eyestyle Cenre Opticians treat you as an individual and give your vision the time and attention it deserves. Unlike some retail chains, they have the freedom of choice and only recommend products of the highest quality. Crizal spectacle lenses are always their first choice as they offer protection against the six enemies of clear vision. They protect against glare, scratches, smudges, dust, water and UV, giving you superior vision whilst eliminating all of the annoying factors that come with wearing glasses. When wondering if you need two new pairs of glasses, ask yourself how many pairs of shoes you have. You would never compromise with only one pair so don’t compromise on your vision and eye health. Go in and see them today for some expert advice and to have access to the quality of vision you have only ever dreamed of. Call EyeStyle Centre Opticians for an appointment on 01489 589760.

rookfield Community School in Sarisbury Green has set up an incredibly exciting project that will involve the whole of Year 9 and a wonderful collaboration with Turner Sims Concert Hall and the University of Southampton. The ‘Brookfield Soundscape Project’ has various phases in October, November, January, April and May. As part of Turner Sims’ 40th anniversary celebrations, Brookfield has devised a series of events and activities which explore sound in its widest context: from instruments, musical forms, workshops and concerts. The project will culminate in the Summer Term 2015 with a participatory project involving pupils from Brookfield and their six feeder primary schools. Based around the concept of sound and embracing English, Maths, Science, Music and Technology, Brookfield will develop close working relationships with University students and lecturers plus a range of professional musicians funded by Turner Sims. The project is inspired by the famed acoustic properties of Turner Sims. Phase One begins on 17 November with poetry writing about the ‘sound of place’ with students being inspired by Max West, the Southampton Poet Laureate. Phase two will be launched on 27 & 28 November. Dr Steve Dorney from the University of Southampton Engineering Department will be inspiring students’ thinking about acoustics and acoustic properties. For a complete overview of the project and its various phases please contact: Shaun Riches (Director of Learning and Teaching) at Brookfield Community School. s.riches@brookfield.hants.sch.uk

Eric Sees The World
A
competition, launched as part of the celebrations for Hampshire legal practice, Eric Robinson Solicitor’s Golden Anniversary, has proved a hit with the public, after pictures of ‘Eric the Owl’ have been sent in to the law firm from all over the world. It may seem unusual for people to want to send pictures from their summer vacation to a law firm, but a competition launched in the summer seems to have captured the hearts of those who were given a ‘golden owl’ by Eric Robinson Solicitors. Named after the firm as ‘Eric the Owl’, people were asked to take the hand-sized mascot on holiday and take pictures of him at various locations. The firm has now received pictures of Eric in over 20 countries - on beaches across Europe and America, in front of historic monuments in cities including Rome and Vancouver and enjoying afternoon tea in Somerset.
In first place... Eric takes a ride on the oldest train in Norway
‘We originally just wanted something fun and cute to send to clients and give out at the numerous events we attended over the summer,’ explains Marketing Executive, Emma Henley. ‘The owl has always been a sign of wisdom and knowledge, so we thought that was a good fit for a law firm, but we had no idea people would love them so much.’ ‘We have had people approaching us to ask how much Eric the Owl was and delighted when we told them to help themselves,’ says Catherine Maxfield, Managing Partner of Eric Robinson Solicitors. ‘This was our first ever public competition, and we were asking people to actually take the owl on holiday with them, so we were thrilled with the response.’ The winner, who won vouchers for online ‘experience day’ website, Red Letter Days, sent in a picture of Eric with a train driver of the oldest train in Norway. ‘It has been a really fun exercise with a pleasantly surprising response,’ says Catherine. ‘We are now planning what we are going to do next.’
