Olivia shines at Young Rider European Championships Olivia Oakeley 21, from Hedge End has just returned from her 5th consecutive European Championships on her horse, Donna Summer.
T
he Championships were held in Arezzo, Italy in July with 24 Nations and 63 competitors from all over Europe.
The competition started with the Team Test which is the FEI Prix St George test and Olivia was the last of the 4 British riders to compete, achieving a personal best and a new British record of 71.158%, finishing in 7th place. Even better was to come from the British Equestrian Federation World Class development rider as Olivia went on to compete in the Individual Test posting another personal best and British record with a score of 73.079% finishing in 5th place. This result enabled Olivia and Donna Summer to go through to the final Top 18 to compete in the Freestyle competition and once again Olivia didn’t disappoint scoring a whopping 74.700%, another personal best and British record, and finishing in 6th place with one of the judges having her in bronze medal position. President of the Young Rider ground jury, Vincenzo Truppa said “I was really impressed with Olivia Oakeley’s test: the horse may not have the quality of the top two but Olivia makes up for it with her fabulous riding.” Olivia had a final over all position of 5th place cementing her place as one of Europe’s top young riders.

Kit out the kids for a fraction of the cost -
Charity ‘Nearly New’ sale in Titchfield 27th September 10.00 am to 11.30 am
M
ums and dads can kit out their children with virtually brand new clothes and equipment at a fraction of high street prices, thanks to the Fareham & District branch of the National Childbirth Trust (NCT). A Nearly New sale of clothes, accessories and toys for babies and toddlers will take place on 27th September at Titchfield Community Centre, Mill Lane. Parents are welcome to come along as buyers or sellers, with just one condition - that the goods must be ‘nearly new’.
ou C r n om ew e a sh nd ow se ro e om
Helen Churchill, Co-ordinator of the Fareham & District branch team of the NCT, explained to The Informer; “Parents always want the best for their children but many of them simply cannot afford the latest ‘must have’ item on the market as well as all the everyday clothes an active child can get through. The cost of kitting out a child for the first five years can run to thousands of pounds. But on the other hand, parents don’t want to dress

their children in hand-me-downs. Our Nearly New sales are the perfect solution - high street quality at knock-down prices.”NCT Nearly New sales give parents the chance to buy everyday necessities like vests, jeans and T-shirts for their children. They can also find items such as coats and clothing for special occasions, as well as toys and other accessories, all for a fraction of retail prices. The sales are intended to ease the strain on the childcare budget of the average family by offering parents a more economical alternative to buying new. The sale will take place at Titchfield Community Centre. Priority entrance will be given to NCT members on production of a valid membership card. Sellers can register by completing the registration form available on www.nct.org.uk/in-your-area/fareham/farehamnns or emailing NNS. A tough challenge for charity
F
rank Parker is the assistant manager of McColls newsagents in Huntspond Road, Titchfield Common and he is raising money for the Help for Heroes charity. Frank is taking part in one of the Tough Mudder events that are taking place around the country. A Tough Mudder is described on it’s website as “Probably the toughest event on the planet”. It is a 12 mile, approximately 24 obstacle assault course designed by US marines. Thousands of people take part over the weekend in all parts of the country throught the year, much of the money raised going to Help for Heroes. Frank and his brother Robert and step-dad Gary have taken part in several events so far but Frank has decided to raise as much money independently as he can by the last ‘mudder’ of the year on the 25th and 26th October. The event is being held in Winchester and Frank is going to do the course wearing just a bright orange ‘mankini!!!’ He has sponsorship forms at the till in McColls for anyone wishing to sponsor him for this very worthwhile cause. There is also a Facebook page: tough mudder sponsorship, with a link for donations.

Autumn is the perfect time for planting
Did you know autumn is the perfect time to plant a fruit tree? The earth is still warm from the summer sun and generally very moist from the autumnal damp atmosphere. Planting now gives the roots of a young tree time to settle and become established before the spring stimulates new top growth. So if you look forward to a lovely crop of apples next year begin planting now!
M
ost apple trees are pretty in shape and the Cox’s Orange Pippin is a good example and it’s fruit is still considered the most flavoursome apple in the world.
Greengage trees certainly need the winter months to settle in and the ideal time to plant them is late September through to November. They can take a little coaxing to fruit, however once they are established and providing you plant them in a southerly aspect, you will be well rewarded. You will also find that the fruit is very sweet and a far cry from the hard tasteless greengages offered to us at today’s supermarkets! Damson trees are another delight in the garden especially if you enjoy making jam! Did you know they originate from Damascus in Syria? Hence its older name “Damascene plum’. They like full sun, a sheltered position and good drainage, other than that they very much fend for themselves and only need pruning if you need to keep them to a certain size. There are so many varieties of fruit trees available that you would be wise to do a little research before deciding which is best for your garden and your pocket. Whatever you decide to plant, you will not be disappointed and will have an abundance of fruit for autumn puddings and jams. Just imagine - that lovely rich dark damson jam on warm scones! Delicious! www.hambrooks.co.uk

Technology Will Save Us! But Do We Want it?
Q: I am an active 80 year old and everyone is telling me to “get online” - do I really need to? A: A new government report came out last month that showed 7 million people in the UK remain offline, or without the basic skills to enjoy the Internet. Many people argue that “the modern world” of Internet devices is leaving the older generation behind. Sometimes technology does pass us by. Our tutors have had many visits with older clients up to the age of 96. “It’s like Chinese”, one would say. “What’s the point – it’s too late for me”, said another. New technology is often thought of as the plaything of the young, with the older generation wary of innovations like smart phones, tablets and social media. Do you remember the days when you used to go to the library to find information? You’d sit there for hours researching with books. But now we can get answers with the touch of our fingertips. As with everything, some simple guidance can open up the wonders of technology for even the most basic of beginners. Many people who are isolated can be helped enormously through the power of the Internet. The stories of success are endless. Instead of being scared of technology, we can embrace it. You can receive email messages instantly instead of waiting for the post. You can ‘Skype’ families across the world to hear their voice and see them – for free! You can research hobbies at the touch of a button. Just being online allows you to save hundreds of pounds a year in finding better deals. If anything, it should make your life easier. So no, you don’t NEED to get online, but why not try it out? Take that step now and move into a whole new world – you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it!

How Clean Is Your Tile? N
ATURAL Stone, Porcelain and Ceramic tiles are beautiful to look at and are worth every penny of your investment! but what happens when they get dirty? Do they lose a little of their ‘wow factor’? Are you tired of getting down on your hands and knees to scrub grout lines or have you just given up? Well, fear not for the Hampshire Tile Doctor is here to help. They offer free advice and free quotations on how to clean and restore any sort of natural stone, be it Marble, Travertine, Limestone, Terracotta, Slate, Victorian tiles, etc. Imagine your natural limestone entrance hall floor tiles, your terracotta or slate kitchen floor tiles, or your ceramic bathroom wall tiles, even your granite worktops and splash-backs being made to look as if they were freshly laid. Also, have you ever noticed the difference in shade of colour of the grout at the very edge of the room, which should be almost as new and the grout in the middle of the floor? It can be surprising how, even with regular mopping, the grout always looks dirty. Why? Because the grout channel attracts dirt which mopping often glides over. So why not let The Tile Doctor clean the grout so it looks new again? The old days of mops and toothbrushes are gone forever! And what if the grout is also badly stained? No problem, they can even re-colour the grout for you from a range of subtle colours. After the cleaning process they apply a professional coating of an impregnating sealer, which sinks into the tile and/or grout and gives an invisible protective barrier that will leave your floors so much easier to clean. Sadly, some tile fitters never seal the tiles or grout they lay, which means you could damage your floor by spilling some everyday products you have in your kitchen or bathroom.
“Don’t Fret About Your Dirty Stone Or Ceramic Tile Floors… We Can Bring Them Back To Life.” YES!! Including Those Filthy Grout Lines - And They Can Apply A Sealer To Keep Them Looking That Great Longer!
Let the Tile Doctor clean and protect for you. Call now on 0800 695 695 9 or visit www.hampshiretiledoctor.co.uk, for a free ‘demo’!

The gardens were officially opened in 2002 and have won many prestigious awards over the years including National Cemetery of The Year in 2009. The gardens are linked together by meandering streams and pathways and benefit from a beautiful lake, which is overlooked by the Temple and fountains. This location offers an unrivalled setting for reverence and reflection. The gardens have been designed to provide an opportunity to select a resting place to reflect each individual's uniqueness in this place of tranquillity. Portchester Memorial Gardens organise a seasonal memorial service for family and friends of loved ones at the gardens every year. Mayor of Fareham receives Heart Defibrillator on behalf of the Locksheath Community
S
wanwick Lions have donated a heart defibrillator to the Locksheath Shopping Centre. The Mayor was presented with the defibrillator by local youngster Harvey on his tricycle. The First Responders, Fire, and Police services were represented during the day, and a local band played Country and Skiffle songs. The weather was fine after a tenuous start, and shoppers stayed to chat to the Lions, the services personel, and listen to the band. The First Responders gave demonstrations of resusitation techniques, and the Mayor, Cllr David Norris, and the Mayoress Mrs Pamela Norris, took time to chat to the services people. The Shopping Centre Management are arranging for it to be fitted at the clock tower and details on how to use this emergency equipment will be posted on the container.

Making music - so much drama
Making music – it’s so much drama…
A
new school year and a fresh start for many pupils will bring forward the desire to find some new out of school activities to help build confidence, teamwork and make some new friends.
There is no better time to start a child’s journey into performing arts than when they are still at school, because not only do performing arts help students bring out their on stage skills but they also help bring them out of their shell. I know this better than anyone because just a few years ago I was one of these new students. Deciding that you want to take part in performing arts is not only daunting but also exciting. It’s a chance to really let out some creativity and imagination that so many young children have. When I started at an extra curricular stage school I wasn’t really thinking where it would help me end up, but I’m sure my parents were. I had performed in many a school play and soon discovered a passion for performance, and finding a stage school was a push in the right direction. In time, I was signed to an agent and went forward to several auditions for television and the big screen, including the likes of Charles Dickens’ Great
Expectations! Going to these castings gave me the confidence I had needed to take up so many things in my life, and I was able to make a whole new circle of friends with the same interest as me from all across the country! Music was also a big passion of mine growing up, I can remember waking up in the early hours of the morning to listen to the Top 20 most popular songs of the week, so it was a no brainer for me to decide to learn a musical instrument. There was such a wide variety of instruments to choose to learn, and right now the ukelele is becoming very popular and is a great instrument to start learning with, alongside the recorder which sets you up wonderfully for learning woodwind instruments like the flute, but I eventually decided that the guitar was the one for me. I was surprised at first, how much dedication you had to put in to really get a result, but if you put in the work then learning to play is seriously rewarding, even the smallest of school concerts felt like I was playing the O2 Arena. Time has moved on since I went for auditions and played at school concerts. I have started to teach classes in drama and music at the very same stage school I attended. Now, I can put all my expertise into the next generation of performers. So, if your child is showing an interest in any of the performing arts – singing, acting and dancing – then why not see where classes could lead them? Words by Jake Mace

Making music - so much drama Melody Bear® is a new and growing in popularity dance class for boys and girls all over UK and A&L Dance Academy is happy to be holding this dance classes in our studio. How does the class look? Melody Bear® joins our Melody Movement classes to share her stories, ideas and life outside the dance studio with the young dancers. Children bring their own teddies and dolls and they sit them together with Melody Bear in the centre of the studio. Milligan Bear is Melody Bear’s best friend and he sits with Melody Bear too. The class starts with Melody Bears warm up songs danced around her and her toy friends. Melody Bear is then positioned on her chair, with the children’s toys to watch the travelling and skill based exercises. Many exercises link together to lead the class through the narrative of Melody Bear’s adventures and themes. The teacher brings Melody Bear back to the group when it is time to share Melody Bear’s story or ‘surprise’ leading into an exciting creative theme. Props and dressing-up may also be included in this section. Melody Bear’s many creative themes include a combination of magical tales and real-life stories helping children to develop imagination, role-play skills and to learn about the world around them. The class finishes with Melody Bear’s goodbye song or lullaby. Before everyone goes home, Melody Bear presents a sticker to each child telling them which movement or dance she liked best of all that week. Sometimes one of the dancers may have a ‘special day’ as she has completed two sticker charts. She enjoys holding Melody Bear at the front of the train dance and Melody Bear presents her with a medal. All her classmates applaud and share her celebration. This class lasts 40 minutes and includes cup of tea or coffee for the parents in the price. Its on Saturday and Thursday mornings at A&L Dance Academy at 10 am. As the children mature, they will naturally move onto ballroom and latin classes held in our studio on Saturday at 11 am.

odyrox Productions opened its doors in July, bringing fun & flair to the Lockswood Community Centre.
Bodyrox recently moved base into the charity run Community Centre, and are thrilled to be part of the community association. The afternoon was filled with taster singing sessions, commercial dance classes, and opportunities to get involved, with the afternoon culminating in a showcase performance by the talented production cast. Having just performed at Ferneham Hall with their Gala Variety Production, the Bodyrox Cast are now preparing for their “Magic Of Christmas Production” and their audition to perform at Disneyland Paris. “We are very excited about the performance opportunities coming up in the year ahead” said Kirsten. The Caci Jowl Lift Specifically targets those loose muscles around the jawline, using quad probe applicators designed to double the lifting action of the Caci treatment system, therefore enhancing the results and reducing treatment time. The 15 minute facial treatment helps improve the appearance of sagging jowls by using the quad probes which have been Before
specifically developed to target the muscles around the jawline. They emit tiny electrical impulses to lift, firm and redefine the facial contours. You can have the treatment incorporated in the full facial Caci treatment for an extra £15 or as a stand alone treatment for £25, it is completely painless and the results are superb.

Top tips to prevent neck pain
he I Body Clinic based in Hill Head Fareham uses the latest non surgical treatments to help aid weight loss. One of the treatments which they specialise in is the Ultra i-Lipo Laser Lipoysis.
• Check your posture, so that you hold yourself comfortably upright • Gently strengthen your neck muscles, to help support your head • Take regular breaks from desk work, driving or any activity where your neck is held in one position
This provides a relaxing pain free treatment that mimics your body during natural weight loss, allowing you to reduce fatty deposits in specific ‘trouble spots’ that your normal diet and exercise regime may not be managing. In addition the Ultra i-Lipo also helps with skin tightening, stretch mark correction and collagen toning. Independent clinical studies have shown i-Lipo to be, in some cases, comparable to results achieved by liposuction. Ultrasound imagery shows up to 30% reduction in the fat layer depth after just one treatment. For more information or to book your appointment please call 01329 668122
• Keep your neck active and mobile to prevent stiffness but avoid bending your neck back though • Avoid reading for long in bed or using too many pillows • Shrug and lower your shoulders to ease tight muscles • Check your eyesight in case reading is making you stoop • Practice relaxation if you are prone to stress, to reduce tension across your shoulders and neck The CSP with ARC have produced a neck leaflet which includes advice and exercises. http://www.csp.org.uk/documents/neck-pain-exercises For more advice on a neck problem, tel Brook Lane Physio 01489 873969

I lost 3stone 4 lbs without dieting…and I’ve kept it off! Then…13st 6lb - now…9st 2lb. Hayley age 42 I was trying on an outfit with my then 4-year-old daughter in the changing room. I said this makes my bottom look big, and she replied, ‘Well mummy, you have got a big bottom!’ Another lady commented about the honesty of children. I laughed. But inside I wanted to cry. How had I got to almost 13 and a half stone, a size 20? My wedding dress was a size-10, but I was soon pregnant so gave up smoking. I starting eating for two and replaced cigarettes with food. Despite trying lots of diets, my weight increased over the next 15 years. I lost confidence, didn’t like going out, hated clothes shopping. Then in September 2012 I started the Easyloss Programme with Hampshire Hypnotherapy Centre. I was sceptical, but within a week I noticed a difference! I followed their simple guidelines and had a relaxing hypnosis session at each appointment, and soon realised that I wasn’t thinking about food constantly. When I began to use my appetite as a guide to how much to eat, my portions decreased, drinking water became second nature, and I started to take the dog for long walks. I still eat out regularly; enjoy treats like I did before, but now food is no longer the central focus of my life. Last time I weighed myself I was 9st 2lb - and my wedding dress fitted! The Easyloss programme worked for Hayley…Book your Free initial consultation today - call 07946 641270 or 0800 970 4776 or visit us at www.hantshypno.co.uk for more information and testimonials from our slim, happy clients!

The Gregg School

3 acres of landscaped grounds (including an 11 acre arboretum with some original and rare trees), a Victorian gardening gem and the former stately home of the Baron of Swaythling provide a unique setting for the quality education students receive at The Gregg School in Southampton. The external environment provides the School’s 320 students with wonderful open spaces to discover, explore and create, whilst inside there is a strong “family feel” as you enter Townhill Park House. It is this “family feel” which distinguishes The Gregg from most other schools, and one which extends beyond the fabric of the buildings into the very heart of the School’s ethos. Students here frequently comment that they regard the School as their “second home” or “second family” and this sense of belonging and community reaps many rewards.

This performance measure is used to show where students have secured a C grade or above at GCSE level across a core of academic subjects at key stage 4. The EBacc consists of: English, mathematics, history or geography, the sciences and a language. The school’s performance is above National Average for students achieving EBacc. Executive Principal, Phil Munday said he was proud of what students and staff achieved this year. He said: “We are delighted that many students have achieved outstanding GCSE results. He remarked, “Our role is to develop assured, capable, enterprising people. We strive to deliver customised learning programmes and to enable every student to achieve his or her personal best.” The Henry Cort Community College received another excellent Ofsted report in February 2014 in which it was graded ‘good’ in all areas. The College has been graded consistently good over the last decade being ranked ‘good’ with several outstanding features at its last Ofsted inspection in June 2011 and also graded ‘good’ in October 2007. In February 2014, the inspectors praised the achievement of students, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of students as well as the strong leadership and management. In particular, the report notes that “The executive and associate principals work in partnership with other senior leaders and the community to maintain a happy and wellordered community, securely founded on the four pillars of achievement, engagement, enterprise and respect.” For information about The Henry Cort Community College or to arrange a tour, please visit www.henry-cort.hants.sch.uk

t’s been another busy year at Wyvern, as you will see from the Latest News section on their website.
Various trips have supported learning beyond the classroom and provided opportunities to experience other countries. Year 7 students were able to use their language skills during a trip to France or Germany, Year 9 History students had a poignant visit to the WW2 Battlefields, and Year 9 and 10 Geography students took part in an unforgettable trip to New York. Local destinations have included the Houses of Parliament, the Natural History Museum, the Globe Theatre, the London School of Economics and the Black Country Museum. Their cultural achievements have been as strong as ever including the annual production, Vocal Festival, GCSE Art Exhibition, and culminating in their highly successful Arts Week which saw a wealth of high-quality daytime and evening arts activities taking place in a Big Top Tent. Wyvern sport continues to flourish, with several of their Track & Field athletes being selected for the County. In addition, the annual Wyvern 10K road race saw the introduction of prize categories for junior runners this year which encouraged a number of Year 10 and 11 Wyvern students to take part. Students are also encouraged to become participative citizens with some becoming Reading Ambassadors to support younger students, others devising fundraising ideas to raise money for their chosen year group charities, and some taking part in activities outside college such as working with elderly people in the local community or entering a float into the local carnival. To find out more about the other opportunities on offer, come along to their Open Evening on Thursday 18th September or join an escorted Admission Tour during the school day in September and October. Kumon develops children through the acquisition of independent learning skills, rather than teaching in the conventional sense. Are you collecting a new car this September?
W
ere you offered a paint protection sealant applied to your car? Did the price seem very expensive so you turned it down?
Paint sealants do a very good job of maintaining your car paint work, making them easier to wash and protecting them from the damage caused by bird lime, tree sap and acid rain. The sealants offered at the time of purchase are a good quality product, it is however, the way they are applied that will determine how much benefit they will do. Too short a drying time, or poor application methods are not uncommon in a busy valeters bay at a dealership. At Auto Brite, every surface of the car exterior is given a protective sealant, including the alloy wheels, all plastics and glass. It usually takes approx 4 hours to complete, following an initial thorough wash to remove any dirt. New microfiber cloths are used, to ensure no scratches are put onto the car and all work is carried out in a spotless environment. Oh, and the price is usually around half that quoted at the dealerships! Please see our advert for contact details or visit our Facebook page for examples of our work.

Up & coming – Fareham This historic market town nestles in between two of Hampshire’s largest cities; Fareham is renowned locally for it’s communal atmosphere. It’s town centre surrounds a beautifully designed sculpture park, fusing the modern shops and restaurants with images that appear to have been forged in a medieval blacksmith workshop!

see signs of locals affecting the everyday life of the town. It’s location bordering the Great Cams lake makes for an excellent walk along the nearby waterfront. Only a short distance from the hub of activity lies the tranquil parks and marinas that make Fareham so geographically diverse.
The models that line West Street have been created all over the world, with contributions from Finland, Germany and as far as Russia. Not only is this town historical, it’s international also!

The artworks are featured in the pedestrian precinct that showcases a variety of local independent businesses, with everything from antique shops to fitness centres – it is always easy to find something to do here. The town centre stretches all the way down West Street toward the train station, an excellent welcome to the town that truly shows off it’s values. Gardening Why not transform your garden with some Indian sandstone paving?
L
iteral Landscapes have been using Indian sandstone paving for years and there are a few good reasons. Unlike man made slabs, the colour lasts. Like all paving areas, they will get dirty and algae builds up but jet wash it off and, like magic, they are restored back to the colours of the day they were laid. This paving can also be sealed which will brighten up the colours in the paving and make it next to impossible for the algae and grime to cling to the slabs. Also, there aren’t many slabs cheaper on a m2 price than Indian sandstone apart from concrete pimples or rivens and we all know how pretty they are. So if you want a long lasting paving not only in construction but colour too, give them a call for a free quotation and design.

...at Swanwick Lakes The meadow areas at Swanwick Lakes are full of the yellow flowers of Common Fleabane.
I
t was thought that these plants, with their daisy-like flowers, would ward away flies from livestockhence the name. Look out, too, for late-flowering purple Knapweed, Bird’s Foot Trefoil and Tufted Vetch. It is this diverse mixture of flowering plants that makes meadows so special and such rich places for wildlife. Butterflies, bees and a host of other insects are attracted by the sweet scent of the nectar in the flowers. But the different grasses and flowers aren’t just a source of food; they also provide places to lay eggs and to shelter larvae or caterpillars through the winter Fleabane, Tufted Vetch and Knapweed – months ahead. Photograph by Jo Trotter All over the reserve, trees and shrubs are heavy with ripening fruit and seeds. One of our most beautiful and often overlooked trees is the Field Maple. In September, this small tree is laden with pairs of winged seeds, often known to our younger visitors as ‘helicopters’. The seeds spin as they fall from the tree; an eye catching spectacle on a breezy day. As the days grow shorter and the temperature falls, the leaves of the Field Maple turn

a rich golden yellow. The tree that has been relatively inconspicuous for most of the year becomes a striking example of the way autumn takes hold of the woodland. Why not visit Swanwick Lakes for a walk this month, or better still, return as the season progresses. Some would argue that the sites, sounds and smells of Swanwick are at their best as summer gives way to autumn. Swanwick Lakes Nature Reserve is an 86 acre reserve located on Sopwith Way, off Swanwick Lane. The reserve is owned by NATS and managed by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. The reserve is open from dawn until dusk for all to enjoy. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is the leading nature conservation charity in the two counties. For more than 50 years, we have protected local wildlife and inspired people to love nature. No other organisation, local or national, does more to protect the wildlife and wild places of Hampshire, the Island and our local seas. Our 27,000 members and 900 volunteers share our belief that nature is important, and that we can all do something to help protect the wildlife on our doorstep. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust manages 48 nature reserves across the two counties and works with numerous land owners to create living landscapes and living seas. W
ickham Square is one of the largest medieval market
squares in the country and is being taken back to
its roots with a huge festival celebrating all that is great about Wickham. With over 40 stalls, 8 goats, two busking spots and one stage it looks as though the festival will really offer something for everyone! The Mayor of Winchester will open the event at 10am on Sunday 14th September. Stalls will sell everything from chocolates to cheese, goat meat to gifts and herbs to hair products. A cookery demonstration unit will allow local chefs to demonstrate their skills and a huge variety of live entertainment will go on all day. Alan Davies’ Little Victories UK tour, autumn 2014
A Midsummer Night’s Dream, September 18
T
hree of Shakespeare’s best loved plays will be coming to The Berry Theatre this autumn as part of the popular Globe on Screen season.
The season of films from the prestigious London venue kicks off on September 18 with A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Hermia loves Lysander and Helena loves Demetrius – but Demetrius is supposed to be marrying Hermia… When the Duke of Athens tries to enforce the marriage, the lovers take refuge in the woods and wander into the midst of a dispute between the king and queen of the fairies. Shakespeare put some of his most dazzling dramatic poetry at the service of this teasing, glittering, hilarious and amazingly inventive play, whose seriousness is only fleetingly glimpsed beneath its dreamlike surface. The screening will be at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 and £8 for concessions and can be bought by calling the box office on 023 8065 2333 or by visiting www.theberrytheatre.co.uk.

ollowing the phenomenal success of his spring tour earlier this year, Alan Davies is proud to announce a further tour this autumn of his brand new show, Little Victories, which is coming to The Kings Theatre, Southsea on Saturday 27th September. His previous show, Life Is Pain – his first UK tour in over a decade - was critically acclaimed in Australia, New Zealand and across the UK and due to unprecedented public demand, was extended twice running for almost eighteen months culminating in the release of a DVD of the show filmed at London’s iconic Apollo Hammersmith. Alan starred in a new series of Jonathan Creek, due this spring and is currently recording a new series of QI. www.mickperrin.com

A bountiful autumn awaits at The Point
T
he Point in Eastleigh is gearing up for an autumn season of contemporary theatre, comedy and dance.
In keeping with its reputation as a venue that pushes the boundaries of performance, acclaimed choreographer Alexander Whitely kicks off a bumper season of dance with a double bill on October 8. The first part of the evening The Measures Taken, has been commissioned by The Royal Opera House and is visually striking and kinetically charged. It has been created in collaboration with digital media artists Marshmallow Laser Feast and explores our interdependent relationship with technology. With the choreographic process rooted in the digital collaboration, the work is both a dialogue and a duet between human movement and the digital world. The second piece in the double bill is The Grit in the Oyster which sets a trio of dancers against Thomas Adés’s Piano Quintet to explore themes of obsession and transformation. To find out more about what’s on at The Point this autumn or to book tickets visit www.thepointeastleigh.co.uk or call the box office on 023 8065 2333.

he latest event to be booked into the Holiday Inn Winchester’s season of entertainment is a tribute to the unforgettable ‘Dirty Dancing’ movie on Friday, 2nd October. The event will feature a dynamic cast of West End performers, set to create the ultimate party - with nostalgic hit songs such as ‘She’s Like the Wind’, ‘Hungry Eyes’ and the timeless Oscar winning ‘The Time of My Life’. What’s on
The National Watersports Festival
The first Friday in September will see the start of the National Watersports Festival (NWF) where over 500 competitors and upwards of 8,000 spectators will converge on Hayling Island for three days of non-stop racing, activity and fun!
N
ow in its ninth year, the event, which takes place between 5 – 7th September is a huge draw for windsurfers, kayakers, kitesurfers and Stand Up Paddle Boarders from across the UK and overseas. It is billed as the largest multi-disciplinary watersports festival in the UK and is a place where ordinary weekend enthusiasts have the opportunity to rub shoulders with and compete against Olympians and multiple World Champions.
Hayling Island is the spiritual home of windsurfing and where Peter Chilvers (then just 12) is credited with inventing the sport over 50 years ago, so is the fitting destination for such a well-loved festival. The event features racing for all levels of ability and age, alongside Taster Sessions in all of the sports, ideal for spectators desperate to have a go! The event also hosts free Coaching Clinics taken by top UK Coaches and industry professionals, many of whom are exhibiting at the event’s Trade Show, which is the largest in the UK for the associated sports and showcases the latest equipment from top manufacturers. Visitors can also take advantage of the equipment demos, giving them the opportunity to try out the latest gear available on the market and get a feel for what’s out there. And if this wasn’t enough there is live music at the festival’s Beach Parties on the Friday and Saturday nights, with epic floodlit night racing adding another dimension for the racers who never fail to put on a show.

No two festivals are the same, which helps event organisers to keep attracting the numbers, as event director, Allan Cross explains: “This year we’ve introduces two brand new attractions to the festival, which should provide some amazing additions to an already packed programme. On the Friday we’re holding a ‘Blast from the Past’ slalom event pitting yesteryear’s windsurfing heroes against the up and coming stars from today. “We’ve also significantly upweighted the kiteboarding element of the NWF in 2014, which will now be staged at the blue flag beach, West Bay. Brand new this year will be a ‘Night Kite Park’ which will feature ramps and kickers for a truly awesome spectacle and is definitely one not to be missed! ”Our thanks, as always to our sponsoring family, which includes Hayling Borough Council and all our exhibitors and supporters.” This year the whole event will be streamed live at http://nationalwatersportsfestival.com/live/, so armchair enthusiasts don’t need to miss a single minute, as a dedicated film crew will bring viewers all the goings on, throughout the weekend. Olympic and Championship riders will be interviewed, alongside a number of the participants, many of whom will have unique tales to tell and will amuse, delight and amaze those watching at home. Tickets are available for the event directly from the website http://nationalwatersportsfestival.com/participate/ It is free for spectators who are invited to soak up all the activity of the weekend, a schedule of ‘What’s On’ available from the website.

Life Cover for Over 50yr olds – Guaranteed!
F die.
or many people it can be great comfort knowing they can help make things easier for their family when they
There are many companies that offer various forms of life cover, but for those over 50 it can be difficult and costly, especially if you have a current or a previous medical condition or lifestyle factors that would make it difficult or impossible to obtain terms. There are however options available to people in this position who are UK resident who are aged over 50 where life cover can be guaranteed to be accepted without having to declare any medical information at all. It could enable you to help pay for funeral costs, clear outstanding debts or leave a loved one with some funds. The plan is based on whole of life, but premiums usually are only paid until a set age (for example aged 80). Life Cover is usually limited to a maximum figure, however you can find out exactly what you could pay in the following easy step process: 1) Confirm your age 2) Confirm whether you are a smoker or non-smoker 3) Confirm whether you would like to pay between £10-£75 per month If you would like to discuss this or any other Protection matter with an Independent Financial Adviser, please contact Sheila Tarr I.F.S on 01489 574355 to discuss your requirements.
