TO THE
SOURCE SOLESTRUCK
NOTE To The Source by Lala Lopez www.lalanyc.com 9:45AM, I walked up to the shooting space for the Solestruck Fall 2011 Lookbook, only to gawk at the whopping 125 girls that were lined up on Soho’s Greene Street. Every single girl on that line had their own look, their own style and their own point of view. I was super stoked to meet all the girls in the casting, who all gushed about their love for shoes, fashion and New York City. As the speakers blasted ‘Who Runs the World (Girls)’ by Beyonce, we all knew it was bound to be an amazing shooting day. As these stylish ladies queued up in front of the Solestruck team and I, it was incredibly difficult to pick only 8 girls from all the 125 beauties we saw that morning. By noon, we had our picks ready to go into hair and makeup. After each girl had been glamified and made camera-ready, I walked them through our wardrobe department to talk about their personal style and what their dream outfit would be. As we got each girl ready, we played on the high-low aspect of dressing. There were 50 stellar clothing collections that we got to pair with the darling array of Solestruck shoe selections that are out for the fall season. The crowd favorite was definitely the Finsk number, that would even give Lady Gaga a run for her money. Our awesome photographer, Jose, snapped every one of the girls in tons of looks from our favorite designers and shoe brands. There was a frenzy of energy in the shooting space, a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation. I mean, what else could we expect? We went straight to the source of the Solestruck girl, whose affection for shoes and personal style is unparalleled. I’ve done a bunch of photoshoots in the past, but none have been more fun, fulfilling or exhilarating than working with this amazing group of girls for the Solestruck “To The Source” lookbook. It’s remarkable to witness firsthand, the immense amount of loyalty and devotion that the Solestruck customer has. She’s powerful, smart and cooler than the average girl. There’s no doubt in my mind that the Solestruck girl is the future star model, blogger, editor, stylist, and even designer. And I’m unshakably confident that we will definitely be seeing a lot more from these girls in the very near future. Always Remain Beautiful, Lala Lopez

THANKS A Special Thanks. We would like to recognize our vendors who sponsored this project with free shoes and gifts for the models. The first 100 applicants on the scene for this project received gifts and shoes from: 80%20, DOLCE VITA, Jeffrey Campbell, Sam Edelman, Matiko and Irregular Choice. Without these amazing partnerships, our work would for sure be less fun and obviously less fruitful. Please continue to support these brands on our site. Without our fans and support system, productions like this would not be possible. We would like to send out a giant thanks to the following people for making this event possible: Alex Gallatin and Julie Maddox at the Solestruck HQ, Natalia, Raphael and Michelle at Enter Pronoun, a special thanks to the doormen at 421 7th avenue for continually helping us load shoes into ungrateful taxis, and a giant thanks to Steph K for housing members of our Portland staff, and to Lite Bites of Greenpoint, Brooklyn for delivering lunch all the way to Soho.
